I disagree with this advice. Why pay for gear that YOU will never own? Thats all renting really is. Even if you buy big starting out (say a 210 or similar) you can still sell it for almost what you paid for it providing you take care of it. Owning gear is like having a bargianing chip when it comes time to downsize and get smaller gear. Basically you can put a HUGE chunk of $$ towards your new gear by selling your old if not pay for it completely. I reccomend looking to buy gear AS SOON AS you get your license. Theres always people out there buying and selling begginner size gear. Muff #5048

I got a rig, new mini risers, new hackeys for the pc's, The Parachute and its Pilot, Terminal Velocity (the shitty movie), and a Suunto watch with altimeter, barometer, temp, and compass. I have too. The entire load recieved their jump tix back from manifest no problem. Also, if weather only permits say 9K manifest doesn't charge as much for the jump (think it was like $19 last time which isnt huge since 13K is $22, but it shows the dzo cares about his people and in turn his company). Maybe thats why this seems strange to me. Less alt=Less cost. Muff #5048

I just saw Santa this evening and he might be a couple hour late. As he was flying through Baghdad a couple insurgents shot at him with RPG's. Now they didn't hit his ride because camel jockey's are, by nature, the worlds worst marksmen. Well, dont think that Mr. Cringle was gonna just let this one slip because it's "Christmas". No, he had 2 elves on the door gunner positions armed with 240's and 4 gunship escorts (I hear there may have even been a couple of FP's on the ground, but I didn't say that). Well as it happens, Santa and his band of merry killing machines went to the last known location of the insurgents to give them a little Christmas "cheer". It's unverified at this time, but I'm told that the elf gunners got one, the helo's leveled a building where they were setting up a SAM site, and a FP with a high power rifle took one out from over 650yds away. So with only a little hickup in 'ol Chris Cringle's schedule you guys should be getting your presents COB 25Dec. By the way Santa wanted me to put it out there; HE'S NOT REALLY FAT!!!! I voted no. An F-111 as a main? Pure silly if you ask me. You can get pretty affordable zp mains (sabre1, spectre, triathalon ect) for pretty decent prices if you keep your eyes open. You may want to send a pm to "likestojump". He always seems to have pretty good stuff at very reasonable prices (i just bought a 06Jav, Nitron150 with 150 jumps, and PDr143 no rides for like $2800. I know thats probably more than you want to spend, but thats all practically brand new gear.). Also, check out some dz websites. Many have used gear they are selling that was used as rental gear. I agree with the other posters that you and your buddy will be much happier spending a little more now and getting something that isn't going to require constant maintenance or even a new main in 50 jumps. Actually our personal service is from a private company called Magic Island Technologies. This isn't a mil computer (its my laptop), but we do still fall under general order #1 (ie. no pr0n, gambling, or p2p downloading). I can pretty much do anything else though. Does anyone know of a website where you can find out when canopy coaching courses are and where they are. Also, are there any dz's that have regularly scheduled canopy coaching classes?
