the useless (but educational) trivia thread
millertime24 replied to virgin-burner's topic in The Bonfire
The terminal velocity of an empty beer can is not fast enough to hurt anyone..... Muff #5048 -
Copy that. So in the original poster's pics it looks like an after the fact modification. Also, I noticed on the Jav pics that the rsl lanyard is on the same side as the guide rings/reserve cable. This is not the case on the first set of pics. Is this also an error on the first rig posted? Muff #5048
-
Thanks. The cable breaking never even entered my mind. How messed up would that be to cut away then pull your reserve cable and nothing happens? Muff #5048
-
At the risk of sounding stupid Ill go ahead and ask. What makes this setup high risk? I agree that the rings are rather close to the pin, but how would that keep the rsl from extracting the pin from the closing loop? Muff #5048

Read the reviews. Fucking priceless! Muff #5048

I'm not authorized to give exact dates (the hodgies have internet too), but Jan is when Ill be back. I'm going to use my 2 weeks of R&R to go to Starr to get some jumps in with Sara and Granny. After that its on to Z-Hills for even more jumping. There's about 4 or 5 people out here that Ive met that live in that area that want to jump and one who is already saving up for his AFF when he gets back. Fun times. Muff #5048

Bloodstain isn't all that small, actually. Covers a good third of a wing. You still in the sandbox? Yup. Ill be back in Jan though. I was thinking Ill probably go to Z-Hills once I get back. Not only will I have a new-to-me rig that needs to be tried out a whole bunch of times, but Ill also be bringing a pretty decent amount of military folks Ive met out here that want to jump. Hell, one is even looking into the AFF package there and gear prices already.

Speedbag retrofit to a non-Racer container

This wouldn't happen to be on the rig you're repacking for me would it? Muff #5048 -
Yup. Pretty much...... Man I cant wait to get drunk again. Muff #5048

LOL. My brother was there for that one and yes there is video of that event. IIRC there was even a small blood stain on the WS he used to do that. Muff #5048

That will never happen. They dont allow alcohol over here and pron is also a no-no (but its way easier to lock a computer with a 16 digit alphanumeric password than it is to hide a 6 pack). Muff #5048

I kinda like the part where their surfing while recieving idf. Muff #5048

Would you like to borrow my KA-BAR for a while. It's doubtfull you would actually have to use it. Just the sight of a pissed off woman holding a knife that big would be enough to shut me up. Muff #5048

Another thing you might try. I know a lot of people who actually have more than 1 FB account. Maybe you could convince them to set up "mom only" account where you are the only one on their friend list. That way everything they put up there or post there would be for you exclusively. Muff #5048
-
Agreed. And why they choose not to use text's is not an answere I have. So you prefere recieving information in a more personal manner. Great! Looks like you already know what to do then. In this case I think you should call them up and tell them exactly what you just told me. Muff #5048
-
Seriously? You have grandchildren and you're asking a bunch of skydivers what you should do? Personally I think you should do whatever you want. FB is the medium that most people use these days to keep in contact and share pics/news/info about themselves. It's much easier to take 3 min to post an update than it is to check your voicemail, call that person back, then possibly get sucked into a conversation that could take a while. As a side note, what is this "I should be special" thing anyway? Information is information regardless of the medium used to convey it. What difference does it make if he verbally tells you or post's it on a page for you to read at your convenience? Muff #5048

Nope. We're FAR better than that. Yep. Not MY problem if YOU can't cope with that. Nope. Why should innocent people die? Prove it. Then after you have done that I want the percentage of terrorist/insurgents trying to kill me included. Dude, have you actually ever BEEN to Iraq? The majority of the people here actually LIKE us and what we are doing for them. There are a few bad apples though. >>Sarcasm

Speaking of getting banned, Ive always wondered... Is it possible for moderators to ban other moderators? Muff #5048

Haven't really named a rig, but I talk to my main all the time. Usually I say something like "awesome job". Either that or "FLY RIGHT YOU FUCKING PEICE OF SHIT!!!! I WILL CHOP YOUR ASS!!!". Of course that tends to be followed by "I'm sorry. I didnt mean that just then. You just had me a little worried is all.". Muff #5048

One of the many stories/shennanigans Ive seen; We constantly have to remind people (TCN escorts) to lock their trucks when they park them here at the pit just because we dont want anyone going in there and taking shit out (like med kits, fire extinguishers etc...). Now when someone forgets to lock a vehicle (usually someone new) we open it, put it in neutral then push it somewhere. These trucks are made by some Chinese company called Greatwall and are little more than a go-cart made to look like a truck. Then we tell that person that we saw a bunch of TCN's pushing their truck off towards Baghdad and watch the unholy fear and panic. Muff #5048

So what would happen if someone goes deep inside this mine field, then steps on one and lies there screaming with a torn leg? Should we just leave him there forever, or maybe you would volunteer to get in and bring him out (to provide emergency services and then deportation, of course)? Nope. It was their dumbass fault for going in. They can find their way back out. Of course that is why you would post signs saying that you're about to enter a mine field. Muff #5048
-
Agreed. You'll never find them all once they're out there. Sorry. I'm not buying in on that one. Weather might move them a little, but 10 miles (meaning you place the mines then put the "safe zone" border 10 miles away)? Well thats the point then isn't it? What average joe potential illegal is going to have anything remotely capable of detecting them. It really wouldn't do any good if they could just go buy a metal detector and make a safe path. Because they cost a hell of a lot more to operate and maintain than landmines. Now if you have a cheaper/more effective solution than mines I'm all ears. BTW, the mines also choose who they kill/maim. The people who go into the restricted "Caution Mines" zone. Muff #5048

Since "I'M" the one that said that Ill answer your question. Yes. It would deter illegal immigration and drug trafficing. Basically if you get blown up then you were doing something you shouldn't have been. If by some miracle you make it then good on you. No. I think its a very inexpensive solution to a couple of big problems. Muff #5048
