Thanks; so according to that chart I'm in the 150-160 range for square footage. So I see you jump at Spaceland; how far do they go when it comes to laying down the law? If you're new on the DZ do they actually demand to see "your papers" in a german voice, put you on a scale and unpack your main? Or is it just if they happen to see someone face-plant in the landing area, pull them aside later and check some stuff out? They're a very safe DZ. When you get there they'll want to see your paperwork, licenses, find out what you're jumping, and other questions to make sure you're as safe as possible. I'm not sure how rigorously they'll check you, but I've seen staff tell people they can't jump a certain canopy because of safety issues. They're as safe as possible while also allowing jumpers to grow in their canopy skills. It's best to call the DZ, talk to them, and see what all they allow. You shouldn't want to push a DZ's limit on your first set of gear. The gear is replaceable, but you're not. Also, How many jumps do you have? What have you been jumping? What is your current wing loading? What is your exit weight? When you buy new gear what will your new wing loading be? Have you taken a canopy piloting course? This is also a helpful link. Once you can do everything on this list with the canopy you're currently on, then you may be able to downsize. This is the downsizing check list: http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Canopy_Control/Downsizing_Checklist_47.html Hi V (Sarcasm) Paper work is sooo retro

On a happy note that means it may not have been stolen from the Gov't. Wonder what a dust cover is worth on craigslist. BTW the pic i saw was a B4 container. We carried NB8's on C-130's in the 60's One Jump Wonder

Hi Squeak I was surprised at my reaction while in Wa DC we stopped by the VN war memorial. It "only" contained 50k names but ir's a very long wall and I started to cry uncontrolably like a baby. So many people are listed, a lot of them were around my age "back in the day" all I could see were their young faces and they never got a chance to get older. One Jump Wonder

Nice play on words. "If you got the money, you weigh two-twenty." Hi John Boy Next time try quoting what I said, rather than replying to a cut, copy, delete and paste to serve your own agenda. I'm sure you know that there's more than a tandem "students" weight thats involved in a physical test, Agility, age, ability to follow instructions. etc etc. Some of the responsible GMDZ's will clean up there act but some only have one criteria $$$$. Thats what the waiver is for. R.

Hi Moms I'm not a expert in anything except spelling But the six month emergency fund your thinking about is in case a person loses their job. A responsible jumper in my opinion that has responsibilities that their concerned about need a lot more than that. They need lots of health, disability, and death insurance, and that doesn't even begin to cover the emotional loss someone will inflict on their loved ones. If you can't afford all the direct costs of jumping and the indirect costs right now, don't worry be happy. The sky's not going anywhere and sometime in the future you might be able to afford the real cost of jumping. The incident reports don't have any stats on the people that have been permantly maimed, or severly injured some have incurred 7$ figure hospital bills and if they are able to eventually return to work they will need extensive rehab, and job retraining. A 6 month emergency fund isn't going to come close to paying for those costs. Jumping is fun if your family can afford it. One Jump Wonder

If you don't already know whp Jerry Bird is Thats all folks Well, when I google "Jerry Bird" I find a musician, a basketball player, and a murderer. Which one do I pick? That's why we need to have a synopsis of what they're famous for. Hi Sorry I first heard about JerryBird from reading about him in Parachutist Mag. in the late 60's. Had the pleasure of meeting and jumping with him in the 80's. I don't feel qualified to write a synopsis of everything Jerry Bird did for RW or the SPORT. Help!!!!!!! R. One Jump Wonder -

Hi I ont do social media: tweet, facebook, cell phone etc but from watching international news scoial media was given some of the credit for starting some of the political changes in the middle east, egypt. Like egypt. I'm guessing social media could be used by the DZ worker bee's to discuss their concerns on a national or international level. I don't know what you mean by a total ripoff, learning to jump will definatly be more expensive, but you get what you pay for.FWIW I was a fun jumper. What do you consider a "normal job". Working on wall street, makeing the big bucks even if your pruduct is if a failur. Digging a dtch,, AMA Dr,, a stay at home mom, BTW I don't argue.

Some people have bad feelings towards unions. But why call it a union. When the intructor rateing system was started by USPA it was just a weekend thing, putting out static lines. Now the DZ staff has grown into a full time gig, AFF, tandems etc. The PIA part of USPA and it isn't union, it's a association. DZ's aren't a union their group members. Dentists, Dr's and Lawyers don't belong to unions they belong to professional organizations.. If the DZ staff wants to be treated like professionals, be paid a fair wage have their gear insured if it's stored at the DZ etc etc. Than they need to get organized at a national level. USPA and the DZ's aren't going to do this for the DZ staff. I heard about this thing called social media Maybe you all should try using it if you want to see some changes. Or you could just whine and continue working for whatever the DZ wants to pay you. R. l

Hi John They sure have, One was a GK and the other two are third generation jumpers. One Jump Wonder -
Why is that? I know you're a mechanic so I'm not doubting you...just curious. Hi MR T Remember back in the dat with a standard tranny, we coud point the car down hill and pop the cluth to get the engine started. Then let the alternator to try and recharge the battery, or just keep on parking on a hill. Based on the wise old women said, I think this winter I'll try disconnecting the battery on my riding lawnmower. and see if it helps prevent jump starting the mower next spring.. One Jump Wonder

I like it! But would you like to pay for it? If they sell toilet seats to the gov't you know it's gonna be $$$$$$. How about a trip to goodwill and get a used samsonite type suitcase with wheels, get some heavy duty foam to protect the camera stuff. Still remember the ads of the big ape in the zoo beating the hell out of the samsonite
