QuoteHe'll be a terrific dzo! *** I'm sure he will, but I'm gonna miss having my "instructor fees" taken care of in the gear closet. xxxxo John John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

QuoteWell,...... he'll fit right in with a couple of AFF's we had today ***If a student fails to learn, an instructor failed to teach, or maybe they're just stupid. Flop Flop Flop Flop. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

***...John!!! I didn't think you jumped anymore?! Everyody always asks me who that hot man with a tattoo is on my wall... Quote Don't jump nearly as often as I used to but I still got it. I really am hot, are'nt I? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

I'll be organizing the Hog Flop competition on Saturday. We put the teams together so that they are as even as possible...on paper. This keeps it competitive and, as a bonus, you make a fun jump with people you might not jump with otherwise. It's a hoot! Note: People with high jump numbers are'nt necessarily the best back flippers, as the videos will no doubt show again this year. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

ANyone got a good suggestion for a "first dance" wedding song?

"What a wondeful world" The Eva Cassidy version is great, or "Save the last dance for me" by Emmy lou Harris. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver -
QuoteJust think about the lives that have been changed at Palatka, especially the past residents of the Silver Bullet...David, Mark, Bruce, Jeremy and Erin, countless transient pilots. ***I guess that I shouldn't be so critical. I heard that Art provides full medical/dental and a generous 401K to anyone willing to drop out of mainstream society and live in the Bullet. xxxxo John John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

***Like swoop said, we don't talk behind his back, anything you have read here is old news. I remember when he first started jumping, all full of energy and potential, now he's living in the luvnasium ,packing for cig money. and banging adolecents. I'm so proud, I love it when one of my students makes a real grab at the brass ring. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

***Mr. Reight Bein Vien er Schnitzel!!! Will you be back by then? Yup, I'll be back around the middle of October. I need to get my rig down to Deland though so that it get repacked and have the cypress installed and the mod done. Perhaps if your going jumping one weekend you can stop by the house and carry it down to Palatka for me. See you soon. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

***I'll be stopping by the Hog Flop, with cookies - and I might even let the Palatka Kids have a few...if they can get them away from the old people. Quote Winnie Winnie Winnie John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

Hey Art, are you gonna be "ostrichizing" anyone? See you there, I'll be hanging out with the old people. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

QuoteI have seen over the years how people get ostrichized after a couple of screw-ups, *** Sorry to chime in so late, but I just noticed it. We don't generally "ostrichize" people at our DZ for any reason, it's not the feathers so much but, that long dangly neck can interfere significantly with the deployment sequence. I came up with a great name for a new Reserve Parachute
wrightskyguy replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
I have always thought that "Gut pile" would be a good name for a reserve, and what about "The Total" as a container name. Hey, what about the name "Sloth" for your high performance elliptical? I'm such a visionary. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver -
Have B, have not jumped in 5 months

QuoteIf I bring a coach to the DZ and pay them to coach me and therfore take money away from the DZ then you may have somthing, but not if a friend is willing to help. *** That's what I was saying. As long as the coach is approved by the DZ and he/she is doing it for free, then there's probably not going to be a problem. The unethical part I was talking about was freelancing for money. Quoteso I'm ... uncurrent to say the least. The regs say I need a coach jump to be current. I know people with coach ratings who will do this with me for free (at most when I offer to cover their slot they MIGHT take the offer) but another DZ I'm considering told me I would need a coach jump and it would run me 70 bucks .. the point of the post are my questions... 1 Is this what I should expect. 2 Is this a reasonable price 3 IF a coach rated firend wants to do the jump with me should I worry about stepping on toes with the DZs instructors I would otherwise have to pay 4 Should I expect or be supprised if the dropzone wont clear me for the coach jump with firend coach and insist on their coach? *** I'll address the $70 1st. $70 seems a little high for a straight coached jump but, if they're figuring recurrency training in, to include emer procedures, then it's pretty good deal. As for using your own coach, DZ's are in the business of making money and they have every right to insist on using one of thier coaches. Instructors/coaches doing freelance work without the knowledge or consent of the DZ is unethical. Some DZ's have no problem with what you're asking, but most do. Good luck John Wright World's most beloved skydiver -
Good job! I had an opening 2 years ago that was so hard that it gave me whiplash and cracked my sternum, I didn't have a mal, but I did spend the rest of the canopy ride lapsing in and out of conciousness. If I'd had a mal, there is probably no way I could have responded in time, but an extra 1000 ft could have made the difference. There is nothing wrong with opening at 3000'. I bought my Alti II used when I started jumping in 91 and it was pretty old then. It is still performing flawlessly. Best altimeter ever made in my opinion. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

Gosh Bobby, I never knew that you were a carrier pilot. How come you've never said anything? Maybe if you would have put the word out earlier, you would'nt still be a virgin. I'll tell the Palatka honeys. You're in there! XXXXO John John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

Packing should be adressed in your initial training curriculum. If your DZ is leaving it up to the student to arrange thier own packing instruction, then they,re dropping the ball. I aree with Skymonkey, packers are not always the best to teach packing. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
