QuoteThe DZ in Fernandina was kicked out by Nassau county in 1998 after that Planet Radio stunt that ended in a life flight. (So I'm told from the locals after moving here) *** There was no Planet Radio "stunt" there. A D.J. who happened to jump there did a low turn and smashed himself up pretty good. I hope the new place does well, it will be a good place for me to jump when I fly my G5 up there to be washed. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

While he is small and cute, if he does something like jump on you when you come in the door think to yourself, "Would I want him to do this if he was a 90 lb german shepherd?" If the answer is no train him to to an appropriate behavior instead. I wouldn't sweat it, I see very little chance of him turning into a German Shepherd. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

QuoteI'm guessing for most tandems it is a first jump, and wonder how many of them can actually properly understand the risks? *** Excactly right! No first jumper can really understand the extra risk , no matter how much you brief them. A couple of years ago, some bonehead posted here about what a great so and so this tandem I was because he swooped another jumpers cutaway main, saving it from getting wet in a lake. Got some of the same kind of responses. That being said, I know several TI's that are perfectly capable of safely doing moderately aggressive turns on landing. I don't think any of them actually do "hook turns". John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

QuoteI turned my head as my close friend bounced, but the sound is still with me 10 years later. *** That was the only one I've actually watched myself, Wish I hadn't. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver

There are several. The Best Western is about 3 to 4 miles away 386-325-7800, Holiday Inn 2 to 3 miles away 386-328-3481. I would recommend The Moorings 386-325-3633, it is about a mile away and on the river and has a pretty good restaurant. There are several others but I would'nt recommend them. How much $ can you make as a jumpmaster/instructor?
wrightskyguy replied to JT_76's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I support myself and my twelve brothers and sisters on my instructor pay with enough left over to feed a small Peruvian village, our DZO does give premium pay. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver -

Don taught my SL inst and TM courses, he loved telling stories, and they all starred him. He was a great guy. I took this pic of him petting my old buddy Beau, turned out looking like a 3 way with baa-bara. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver -

Quote Beca, are you really going? I'm thinking about it I was there sunday night and monday during Wilma and it seems pretty nice, the only thing I still don't know is if I can park the trailer in airport grounds? I really did not like the RV Inn where I parked the last time at least not to leave the trailer there during the day and come back to it during the night, let me know. *** Of course you can park your RV there.
