From the California Pistachio Commission Website Q: Why are some pistachios red? A: The first pistachios available to consumers were imported from the Middle East. American importers dyed the shells red, both to disguise staining from antiquated harvesting methods and to make pistachios stand out among other nuts in vending machines. Until the 1970s, there was no domestic pistachio industry in the United States. California harvested its first commercial crop in 1976. The entry of California pistachios into the marketplace made available nuts with clean, naturally tan shells. California's Kerman variety is also larger in size with a more vibrant green nut color. A small percentage of California's crop is dyed red, not by necessity, but to meet the needs of those consumers who prefer the colorful shell.

Vic K. at Bay Area Skydiving (Byron) is a retired Coast Guard. I think he was a "lifer" until he retired into his current position as a DZ co-manager. Correct me if I am wrong anyone. If you're lookin for fellow "Coastie's" But all the DZ's in the Bay Area are worth the drive, even Lodi, where I will actually be this weekend doin 4 way...
-
There's plenty of good good Bay Area folks out here to help you with your homesickness. Plenty of good DZ's and stuff too...

Donald MacDonald from the Isle of Mann went to study at an English university and was living in the hall of residence with all the other students there. After he had been there a month, his mother came to visit him. "And how do you find the English students, Donald?" she asked. "Mother," he replied, "they're such terrible, noisy people. The one on that side keeps banging his head on the wall and won't stop. The one on the other side screams and screams all night." "Oh Donald! How do you manage to put up with these awful noisy English neighbors?" "Mother, I do nothing. I just ignore them. I just stay here quietly, playing my bagpipes."

Serious Response: I was going to write a sarcastic funny dopey post but realized maybe I should take this post more serious. My $.02 - Don't overeact. Any time a person has an opportunity to learn a lesson and live to learn that lesson, should consider themselves fortunate. Especially in skydiving. Kick back, take a week or two off and then make a decison. Granted the sport is not for everyone and only you would know best what's best for you but, I'm sure you have some time and money invested in the sport, so you should give it some time. Also people who really know you (at the DZ) could probably offer you good advice unlike here on the internet where folks only read the text and don't know who you are. Not so serious response: I like downwind no flare competitions and I train students to do so just so I can point and laugh after the carnage. Also I got my ratings basicaly so I could get laid...

I thought I recognized your arm. I remember getting home and watching the news before it started and I totally recognized the hangar and the road. The footage was pretty amazing. Your interview and description of the view and flight throught the smoke was on the news, Gravitygirls interview about the store, all these pics and clips of the fire truck and firemen cruisin up and down the road with the jumpers cheering them on... Just crazy. We had a building catch on fire in H-Town beside the DZ a couple of years ago and it was amazing how all the jumpers chipped in and had the building emptied so fast. It is really sad that there was that accident connected to the fire though. Blue skies....

Happy Frikken Birthday!! Woop woop!!

You guys where all over the news last night. Pictures from freefall, the hangar, the field ablaze, interview with gravitygirl... It sounds like they stopped the fire before the road. I am glad and thankful everyone and their gear is ok. It must have been pretty intense.
