  1. nope, no sport package... the cooper classic (the salesman told us) is what they use to get people into the showroom. it sells for 23,800 and you can't get any options other than the color. that said, it comes with the aluminum wheels, a/c, pw and a cd player, so it's pretty well equipped. the cooper model starts at 25k or so, and you can option that up, then there's the cooper s which starts around 30k. (these prices are all canadian). the only thing we miss is cruise control. no autocross though, it's her car, and since i drive 'aggressively', i don't drive it much. . it's her baby. once she gets the first scuff on it, maybe i could go race with it. 3. i'm guessing it's an rw jump for cdl (commercial driver's license) holders.... truck drivers! i'd be on it if i was going to be there, even though i don't drive anymore, i still have my class1.. 4. my wife and i bought one (for her). ours is the cooper classic (no supercharger) but it's still like driving a go-kart around town, stable on the highway, good on gas and a blast to drive. lotsa room up front for even a really tall person, not a lot of room in back if there's a big person in front. 5. not necessarily, it all depends on a person's passion/commitment to their sport. people think it's horrendously expensive to skydive when you tell them what new gear and lift tickets cost, but then they'll turn around and spend more than the cost of a rig on a new snowmobile or four wheeler. then they have to buy a trailer. then they need a vehicle to tow the trailer. then they spend $100 on gas every weekend they go out. they're gone all weekend. same with an avid golfer, skier, hell, could even be a pool player. as far as the relationship part goes, it depends on the couple. my wife doesn't skydive regularly (she's taken the first jump course three times, done one tandem and will be doing another this weekend), and doesn't understand why i want to hang at the dz all day. so, i go jump but don't hang around, if she's working on a weekend i'll spend the day. now that i have my own rig, i plan on taking it with me when we travel and i'll get a day at a dz (look out skydive chicago in october!). it's all about respect, understanding and compromise. 7. speaking of skydivers in ads... up here in the great white north there's an electronic superstore type place (best buy or whatever) and every week their flyer is full of skydivers. it seems to be a different pic every week, on almost every computer monitor and television. and... anyone see the t-mobile ad with the jumpers stuck in the trees? i think it was on during the nascar race... there's two solo jumpers and a tandem pair. they're all trying to get each other to call for help, but everyone has a problem with using their phone outside 'prime time'. someone suggests the tandem passenger, and he says 'what do i look like, an idiot?' everyone looks at him, then the tandem master cuts him away. 8. is this true love or maternal instinct? oh, and it's thomas the tank engine, not train. i was corrected on that point many times by my own kids. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  10. what would be really cool was if you could get your protrack wired into it... instant speed and altitude readouts without having to look away... edited to add, i'm talking about nacmac's goggles here.. the 'thumps' look cool, but 6 hour battery life? must be watch batteries or something... hope they're rechargable.. 13. don't do this! you can (i have read and heard) cause serious damage to the canopy. i just bought an older sabre 190 as well, and just learned to propack it. it has about 650 jumps on it, 50 or so on new lines. i don't do anything special while packing, just make sure the slider is against the stops, after quartering it, i pull most of it through to the front of the canopy, stuff the nose back into the packjob and then roll the tail 6 or 7 times. pretty consistent and soft openings. it is fully open in anywhere form 500 to 800 feet, so i know i still have to learn some consistency. 16. a skydiving friend of mine said he was at the store one day, and when he reached for his wallet with his right hand, he brought his left hand up to his forehead. he tried to recover by scratching his forehead, but the cashier still looked at him funny. i'm another one for checking for my handles when i put a backpack on. 20. that would be so cool! drag it to the dz, put it up on blocks (just for support, keep the tires on it so it looks like it might move) then paint it up, way cooler than a tent or motorhome! 21. javelin j-4 sabre 190 rascal reserve 2 year old cypres. that was the rig i bought used. reasons: $$$ - the price was right container - lots of javs at my dz main - the size/make i wanted (even though it's pink!) 22. you can only do what you can. i was in a similar situation, spent most of a season getting through my pff. spent most of the next season getting to solo status. now i'm in my third full season, 68 jumps and still working on my A license. i will get it in the next month or so, and since i'm not travelling anywhere else i have no problem with it. i've resigned myself to the fact that i'll never be a great skydiver, and am concentrating on being a safe skydiver. i always have fun, so it works for me.
