  1. *cough* wow, rehmwa, i didn't realize you were so liberal ;) the proposal makes as much sense as saying...disband the marines, the army does that job. heck, disband the coast guard, the navy can do that job. It is extremely shortsighted to think that we will never again need any air-to-air or long range bombing assets. It's also extremely shortsighted or naive to believe that the CULTURE of the military services are so similar that any service but the AF would handle these missions correctly or well. They would handle, i'm sure, but to what cost? JDAM. JSOW. Predator. Global Hawk. wideband satellite communication architectures. you really need me to list these? Just read some of the comments to either article nerdgirl posted. they list reasons a lot better than i am doing, and besides, i have no more time. ;) Just trust me when i say that disbanding the AF (or any of the branches) wouldn't solve ANY of the issues these yahoos talk about. It's actually rather funny...and quite apparent that the authors have spent NO time interacting with anyone in the AF, or any other service for that matter, as anything other than a member of the press. And trust me, we are not ourselves when the press is around. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. apparently you agree with this dreck to disband the Air Force? What is the background of those writers? Army or Navy, perhaps? Or Aviation News...who, funnily enough, would probably go out of business if the Air Force was disbanded. ;) Dave Axe's thing got a lot of attention, sure. a lot of negative attention. Read the comments :P I blame this whole "movement" (if you could call 3 wackos publishing blogs a "movement") on the press. All you see about the air force is f-15s and f-22s. Well, let me tell you from experience that without the air force, many other VITAL missions would fall by the wayside. Oh, and did i mention research? The Air Force has always prided itself as being the technologically advanced arm of the military. A quick look into the research and development infrastructure of the AF as compared to the other services tells the tale. You do realize that all the other services rely on the tech that the AF has developed and funded over the years? When i worked at the AF research lab in ABQ, we had the other services begging us to push tech out the door to use in the field. But who am i to say...i only spent several years of my life in the AF. Most of the issues seem to come from "we spend too much money on the AF". well, don't blame the AF. blame the defense acquisition system...and disbanding the AF would have NO effect on that at all. The bloat and bureaucracy stretches across the entire DoD...not just the AF. it's one of the reasons i left. The problem is the WAY the military allocates and spends money...not WHAT it spends the money ON. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. Are you insane? wait...if i read this right, you're saying BUDWEISER is better than FAT TIRE???!! step AWAY from the crack pipe. Bud is like flavored water. at least fat tire has some taste to it. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. i'm in shock Fly free, tonto. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  5. scam or not, i've known 2 very good friends who did this, and while it wasn't a scam on either part, they just ended up going through a ton of trouble in the end. it's a PITA. tell her not to do it. It sounds trite, but it just never works out from what i've seen. Now, if she actually has feelings for the guy...maybe. but even then, they better be strong feelings. 6. ok, i took some pics last night from my yard...here's a few. I tried to get a couple to get some perspective, then tried zooming in. I was using my husband's camera, which has way to many options for me to be proficient at...so i apologize for the crappiness of the photos. Not to mention i was using a .5 second exposure time...so it's blurry. That is Mt. Woodson, about 3 miles northeast of my house. the fire is traveling west, which in the pictures is generally to the "left", hehe. the last pic is zoomed in using a big lens...not much to see though since it's so dark. 7. I'm still at home...the fires are north of me. I got some pictures last night of the fire line on mt woodson, about 3 miles from my house. It's not coming this way, and we haven't received any evac notices yet. All my stuff is packed and ready to go. here's hoping! 8. i'm still at home, though they've started evacuations to the north and south of where i am. I am ready to go, the trailer is hooked up and packed...so if/when official word come to leave i can just put the dogs in the van and take off. Nice thing about having the trailer is that i can park anywhere. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  9. fire is still staying north of me. They are evacuating Pomerado Hospital, which is about 2 miles north of my house...and apparently there's homes burning in that area. Many houses on fire or destroyed in Rancho Bernardo and Escondido, as well. I have a bag packed, and already loaded my gear (gotta save that!) and some other vital possessions into our van in case we need to leave. so far it looks like we won't have to, but you never know. 250,000 people evacuated, and that number is growing. keep San Diego in your thoughts. 10. the evacuation area is less than 5 miles from my house. some smaller fires and a larger one merged and it's moving west quickly. right now, it seems to be staying to the north of me, but i'm packing some things up just in case. The "good" news is that a lot of the potential fuel that would track a fire near my house actually burned in the 2003 Cedar Fire...which means any fire that comes my way would move slower...not that THAT's a big comfort, heh. They have ordered a massive evacuation of the area north of Highway 56, between I-15 and I-5, and south of Lake Hodges...that is a LOT of people and a lot of area. it includes a lot of Rancho Bernardo, including my husband's office and a lot of his colleagues' homes. He is out of town on business, which makes this doubly fun for me...i have to handle this myself. They've set up qualcomm stadium as an evacuation center...so that gives you an idea how many folks are affected by this. 11. hey guys....I live in Poway and am still awake, waiting to see what is happening. I can barely breathe outside, the smoke is so thick. I really really hope we don't have to evacuate, i live in south poway, backed up onto some very dry open space that could easily burn. could use some prayers or vibes here. 12. snapping this sort of photo isn't luck. it's skill and practice. i sure as hell couldn't do it, but my husband, who photographs motorcycle road races all the time, probably could. And it's real. I've seen this with my own eyes. And yes, i too was looking at it going "hmm, wonder what the shock angle is...bet i could figure out how fast he's going!" 13. the blocks are color coded, because they are slot specific. the randoms are not. By "slot specific" it doesn't necessarily mean the same person has to do that slot every page or jump. it's just to show what that particular slot's job is in that block. for example, on block 20...the person starting catted on the center piece MUST turn 360 and finish in a sidebody on the other person in the center piece. So the color is to show you where that person is going during the block. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  14. pretty much an identical experience here. I chose "trained but not certified" I was also a lifeguard in high school...but that was a looooong time ago. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. Even more chilling are some of the comments to the article. most condemn the place, but a few supporters showed up. Take this for example: "Personal feelings and emotions have no place in the life of an individual who is mentally or physically impaired. " Oh really? That tells me all i need to know. These are the same type of people who follow eugenics and "modern bioethics". To them, kids like those at this "school" are less than human. 16. haha, friend found this picture somewhere...it's too funny not to share! NSFW! ladies...don't all rush out to the tattoo parlor at once! But...you gotta admit, this is clever. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. i don't know if i agree that foreign policy is the SOLE defining issue for classifying people as "neo-cons" or not. I got "realist" on the quiz, but i consider myself a social liberal, for sure, and moderate to liberal on economic issues. and i agree on the wording...some of them i didn't want to choose ANY of the answers, heh. 18. *shrug* i was speaking for myself. I don't do those things. And i think you might be surprised...yeah, a lot of women do that stuff because they compare themselves to other women. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  19. Typical male...lol. but in the end, is it REALLY your opinion that matters? And i would disagree...there are many women who look MUCH better with shorter hair, be it due to their face shape, body proportions, etc. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  21. if it's truly a reunion...a couple of those guys aren't qualified to compete for the UK anytime soon at the world level after competing for other countries, etc. Where is the score report? gah! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. oh dear...you've gone and riled up christy...better watch out ;) They don't call her "killer" for nothing! i'll bet storm and elan do close to if not over 20 point averages this weekend. will be fun to see. 24. According to the storm gals, they still aren't sure how the world meet representation will work, should the womens teams get first and second at the brit nationals. My guess is the gold medalists will represent Britain in the open class, while the silver would represent for the women's class...but that's a total guess. Either way, it's great to see
  25. lol, thanatos...i'm with ya. that's all that needs to be said. totally 100% with you. i hope anyone who texts me expects a call from me...because if you ask a question, i'll call you to answer it Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
