Many of you who know me know how much I love my dogs, especially my first dog, Leo. He is as close to a child that I have and a huge part of my family. He's a quirky, grumpy old man chow chow that I love with all of my heart. Here he is a few years ago: http://www.themcnews.com/Leo2.jpg He got out of our yard last night and is now nowhere to be found. The worst part is that he also managed to get out of his collar which had all of his licensing and info on it. I am heartbroken. Leo has been with me sinnce I graduated from college, and while I know that doggies don't live forever, I expected him to be with me for at least a few more years. Please don't say "it's just a dog" because it's much more than that. Just please keep him and me in your thoughts for a while, and pray that I can find him. Got my copy, too. I love it. And by the way, didn't Adam do an amazingly incredible job with the layout? The photos are spectacular, of course, but the layout looks awesome! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

The U-2R and U-2S are very different aircraft than the original U-2s used in the 60s and 70s. As a matter of fact, they just went through a cockpit upgrade, as well. I've ridden in the landing chase car, too...the chase car is more because the U-2 only has two landing gear wheels (in line) and scraping a wingtip would be a very bad thing. The good news is that the AF only allows their very best pilots to fly U-2s, and there is an actual "try-out" process, as well. My favorite AF aircraft that's currently flying, not only because I worked on it...

Why do some people have more mal's than others
BikerBabe replied to Zep's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm with okalb here. Me, I'm a cutter-awayer. Is that a word? I don't care if I could have gotten it out. I don't care if it was "just a premature toggle fire". If my canopy even feels like it's spinning more than what I consider normal (i jump ellipticals...sometimes they hunt), I'm probably going to chop it. I don't fight with shit. I don't EVER want to be that incident report that says "she finally cut away at 500 feet but the reserve didn't have time to deploy"... LOL...my friends at the Perris tunnel told me that one of the last steps is stringing the net. If the net is strung, they're getting very very close. I dunno about you, but I saw a net in that photo album.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

cool...I thin I'm going to become rich and famous. Then after that, I can go on a crime spree...maybe rob some banks or something. At least I know I'll get off in the CA courts. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Interesting. When did you graduate? As a female grad who was not a christian when I was there, I think I might be qualified to comment on both issues. First, the religion thing. At least when I went through basic training back in 1993, those who stayed in their rooms during the nightly church service were called "heathen flight", and we were often forced to march and practice drill while the vast majority of our classmates were at church. But on the other hand, there were just as many days when we were allowed to sit quietly in our rooms and do whatever it was we did in basic training when we didn't really have any personal possessions. Was it discrimination? Yep. Was it harrassment? Probably. Were we taught that being in the military meant sucking it up and driving on? Hell yes. That's the difference. The "suck it up, be tough, and drive on" attitude was already starting to be on the way out when I got there, but it still clung. Now it's totally non-existent. I believe that's a huge disservice to the cadets, the leadership, the Air force, and ultimately, this country. The reason you're hearing about it now is because when I went through, we weren't allowed to whine. Now, all Basic Training (and the entire freshman year) is is six weeks of sensitivity training. On to the other... I was never sexually harrassed, personally. If I had been, no, I would not have been comfortable reporting it. But then again, my personal tolerance level of "harrassment" is pretty high. It's a hard road in any arena to be the victim of rape or sexual harrassment, since the victim is usually the one who ends up being crucified (by the courts, media, etc). Add to that the "cameraderie" of a military organization, the desire to protect your unit above each individual member of that unit becomes paramount, especially among young and impressionable people. Reporting things like that was generally seen a disruptive, and yeah, a lot of times it would be quashed. Before you get your PC panties in a twist, realize that we were taught to be thick-skinned, and to not be offended by much. I knew what I was getting into. I knew that the AFA was 15% women. I knew how boys were. I wasn't about to call attention to myself by complaining about what was basically normal behavior by 18 year old boys. Please. Unfortunately, those who actually were raped or harrassed probably felt very uncomfortable reporting it. Wouldn't you? Is there a way to fix that? probably not unless you just close the place down. The way they've tried to fix it is totally wrong, and it's leading to a generation of thin-skinned whiners. I'm glad I got out of the AF when I did. Hmmm...Somebody doesn't want to be beaten by a girl. waaah.
BikerBabe replied to BikerBabe's topic in The Bonfire
Well, I was really putting open-wheel racing in general above NASCAR. I agree...IRL and whatever CART is calling itself now desperately need to get back together. There's nothing wrong with getting off the oval and onto a road course, IRL!!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -

http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/sports/article.adp?id=20050528191509990005&ncid=NWS00010000000001 Lose some weight, then, dumbass...or maybe just stick with NASCAR, where it doesn't take much brains to win. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
Probably no boogie going on, but they'll be jumping for sure, and you don't want to miss the wonderful people there. It was my home for 3 years. A big turbine DZ is cool, but nothing beats the friendliness and vibe at a small DZ. Besides, they have one of the nicest 182s in the country! Actually, there is a reduction in force going on. The Air Force, at least, is giving bonuses and "early outs" to encourage people to go, I know for a fact. My husband is making that decision now. I made that decision a year ago. And this: is truly sad. The oldest continually operating mlitary base in the US...there is so much history at Ft. Monroe...if you've never been to the museum there and you live close, I highly recommend a trip before it's gone. I gave Angelee and DebbieG a ride back to the airport on Monday. Everyone had a good time despite the weather, I think. I know I learned a lot, and I'm so glad I did it. The best part was seeing old friends and meeting new ones! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Show me your ID, and your ID and your ID and another form of ID
BikerBabe replied to PhreeZone's topic in Speakers Corner
but...erm...isn't a driver's license typically one's only form of photo ID? What else would they accept? a student ID? Would everyone have to get a passport? Privacy issues aside, the logistics for implementing this are staggering. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -

Ahhh, broken legs do that. OK, I'll bite this time. Put me down for 20 lbs. I don't have a set timeframe, I just want to get healthier. Hey, why not add an exercise component to this? Each week we keep track of how many minutes we exercised that week? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

article in the paper about swooping
BikerBabe replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It was on the FRONT PAGE of the LA Times on Saturday. Not of the local or sports section. The front page. With a big picture. Above the fold. Plus a big spread on page A20. Too bad such good press was overshadowed nationally by the incident in Deland... I posted it on saturday, but no one reads my posts, so I can see why it was missed. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1607906;search_string=front%20page;#1607906 Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
I need a lift (ride) from LAX->Perris, 4th May 2005
BikerBabe replied to cpoxon's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hi all. If you're arriving at LAX, I can probably give you a ride. I wouldn't be able to leave LAX until later at night, maybe around 8 or 9 pm, though I live 2 miles from LAX and I'm planning on going out to Perris Thursday night anyway so I can hang around and try to get a slot in the camp. PM me if you're interested. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
