Wildlife Policy: Set by Gov. Scientists or Rights Activists?
BikerBabe replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
I voted for "let the government scientists do their job". Unfortunately, what's happening right now is that the government is not letting the government scientists do their jobs. Activists and lobbyists aren't the problem here. It the Adminstration. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
Eagle...great guy. Makes me sick. He had fewer than 10 jumps in two years before that meet. Definitely not a slacker. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I've had all of the previous ones mentioned. There's one this year that we've agreed on that I love: Give back to the sport. We made it a goal this year to never be that team that only trains and never fun jumps, never coaches, never socializes, etc. So we coach in the tunnel, we help out with two-way camps, we load organize on non-training days, the two of us with ratings make ourselves available to the school if they need us, and we're just around the DZ in general. Does it take time out of our busy training day to break at 9:30 am to spend an hour coaching in the tunnel? Yes. Do the people we coach get more excited about learning and 4-way and skydiving in general? Yes. This is one of the best team agreements I've ever made. I know it's not unique, but this is the first team I've been on where it's been a spoken agreement. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I'm supposed to be training, but I'm having sinus problems, so I'm not jumping right now. :( Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I'll be there Sat night...not partying too hard, since I'm training this weekend. But a few beers will be had by me, I'm sure. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Google helps make skydiving away from home safer!

Works awesome for Perris! But the images are old...the tunnel isn't there! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
Well, if you've been to an Airspeed camp, you probably know most of those folks already, and know that they are spectacular coaches. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Go to www.airspeed.org to find their individual email addresses. However, getting one of them for 14 days straight may be tough. Consider using a few of them for a few days each. That will give them a break, and give you different perspectives on coaching. You have 4 people who probably all learn differently, so having different people say the same thing in different ways could be a big bonus. One other person I would recommend is Stephan Lipp, especially for bodyflight coaching in the tunnel. I'm pretty sure you can contact him through the FLight Club link that appears here on dz.com. Grad-student Walkout: First Step to Getting a Union?
BikerBabe replied to Sen.Blutarsky's topic in Speakers Corner
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! whew Poor, naive soul. I swear, academia is one of the most "political" environments I've ever been associated with. Competition, back-biting, sneaky dealings, it's all there. What did he think "publish or perish" meant? And that's not even talking about a grad student's pay. Hah. But this tactic just might work. God forbid the tenured professors actually have to TEACH something or, horror of horrors, GRADE a paper! Oh no! The XXX (insert subject here) Department would grind to a screeching halt! So how many jumps did it take you do be able to fly in a stable sit
BikerBabe replied to Darius11's topic in Freeflying
It took me about 6-10. What you need to ask now is how many jumps people had before they tried, and find out how that correlates to how many it took them to be able to have a stable sit. I bet it takes someone starting with 40 jumps a lot longer than it takes someone starting with 300... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
OK, thanks. It's been removed. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

The right to die and Motorcycle Helmet Laws
BikerBabe replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
I chose the top option. Terri Schiavo...that's been commented on enough. As for helmet laws...let Darwin do his work, I say. Sorry if it's harsh, but if you're not smart enough to wear a helmet, maybe you shouldn't be in my gene pool anymore. Sorry, unformed. My life and brain are much more important to me than "feeling the wind in my hair". Errr...besides, my hair would get way too tangled if I didn't wear a helmet...and it's all about how you look, right? The funniest thing I see is bikers out riding on a cold day, all bundled up....and not wearing a helmet. I wonder if they know how much warmer they'd be with something protecting their head and face? As for the idiot who wrote that article, he's obviously never been on a motorcycle in his life, and his use of the term "donorcyclist" (in an obvious attempt to be witty) makes me immediately discount his opinion. He obviously thinks all motorcyclists are tattooed, bearded leather-clad men who wear Hell's Angels T-shirts as they ride their bikes (with after-market straight pipes, of course) to the local watering hole every day to get rowdy and intimidate the passers-by with either sheer volume or ridiculously low idle speed... Really, it's not that uncommon. ABQ is at 5,000 ft above sea level...what do you expect? This late in the year, though...kinda weird. People in the East Mountains know how to drive in snow. We tried to stay away from everyone else.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Ah, yes, the Bush Administration. Attacking the First Amendment on three fronts every day! Your tax dollars working for YOU! Where's Leni Riefenstahl when you need her? ETA: damn, I really didn't mean to violate Godwin's Law, but really...the similarities are eerie, dontcha think? DVG, you're so nice and polite.... By the way, tell Pam that I know she's been trying to get a hold of me...tell her to shoot me an email at skydiver@themcnews.com as for the "small woman" idea, the thought that she can't move around a 6'3", 190 lb guy in the air very well is BS! Come on! I'm 5'1", and my IC is errr...Dom! How tall are you? at least 6' something. Get that girl in the tunnel...even short legs can have some power in the piece turns! Hi, I'm Andi, and I'm such a tunnel addict that I don't even know how many hours I have. Some in Orlando. A whole bunch more in Perris. I'm gonna guess at around 30-40 hours total. But I'm in there so much I don't even keep track anymore. Now THAT'S a true tunnel-holic! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

This is how we launched it last year, as well. It worked pretty well, but as the tail flyer, you have to be comfortable doing that front float exit. It's very gymnastic, up and away from the plane... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Dennis, I'm so sorry about this. Not to sound callous, but does anyone have a picture of Michele? I'm super-bad with names, but faces I remember. As a Perris jumper, I'm sure I knew her or at least saw her around. You and her family are in my thoughts. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
