  1. if it's anything like what my husband did...you probably will be studying enough that you won't have as much time to jump, anyway. good luck and have fun! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. get thee to a tunnel! hehe, seriously, some time in the tunnel and learning to fly your body (don't just work on fall rate, work on everything) will truly help immensely. The tunnel does wonders helping you understand what changes to body position will do in the the air. even just 15 or 30 minutes with a good coach will really help. 3. When i was a kid growing up in southern Ohio, the Dayton Air Show was the largest air show in the US. We went every year. When i was about 10, the air show had an air demo of the SR-71. As it flew by, i looked at my dad and said "I'm going to fly that plane someday". It was that day, and that plane, that inspired me to eventually apply for the Air Force Academy. While nature and politics prevented me from ever becoming a pilot, I found a new hero, Kelly Johnson, and decided that if i couldn't fly a plane as amazing as the SR, i wanted to design them. The story you posted made me cry. Not just because of my childhood dreams and aspirations, but because after having worked in the air force on reconnaissance aircraft and systems, I have a huge appreciation for what our reconnaissance crews did during the Cold War. Folks, if you think the cold war had no casualties, you are 100% wrong. Our recon pilots and crews were in harm's way every single day for all of those long years. http://www.rb-29.net/HTML/77ColdWarStory/05.03byndu-2.htm http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3901/is_200106/ai_n9002388 http://www.nsa.gov/publications/publi00003.cfm Of course it was all classified; their losses went unreported, their sacrifices unheralded. At least now we can look back and thank them. I also cried for the loss of the innovative and trailblazing spirit of aeronautical design that was the hallmark of the mid-20th century, unfettered by an overzealous media, hungry to report on "government waste". Never again will a plane like the SR-71 be built, because the American people, via the "media", would never allow it. The Predator and the Global Hawk are functional unmanned reconnaissance aircraft that i'm sure will save many lives. But i would bet they will never inspire any young girls out there to determinedly set the course of their future based on one fly-by. 4. Yay, crispy chicken! Grats ;) Proud to call you a teammate.
  5. gonna go with fuel pump for $1000, Alex. Had a very similar issue with my old car (before my husband blew it up), turned out to be a bad fuel pump. I would get the entire fuel delivery system checked just in case, though. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. McCain's VP choice will be an interesting one. on one hand he could go the "crossover" route and pick a moderate or even *gasp* democrat for VP. Honestly, Edwards would be an awesome choice, i think, and would probably make the election a a landslide. The risk is further alienating the far right. However, he might choose someone like Huckabee to appeal to the far-right "rush limbaugh" crowd who are currently saying they won't vote for him. Of course, that choice would have a good chance to alienate the potential crossover voters who may be wavering right now. I know I personally would never vote for a McCain/Huckabee ticket, but i would seriously consider a McCain/Edwards ticket... In all reality, it would probably be someone in the middle. It won't be Romney...you can tell from the debates that they can't stand each other. Guiliani might be a good choice, as well. should be interesting. 7. i grew up there. it's not so bad if you're outside of downtown a ways. Besides. they have Graeter's ice cream. try it. you may never want to leave. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  8. heh. I ride. I always alway ALWAYS wear a helmet. However, mandatory helmet laws are for the birds. This is going to sound harsh, but it clears out the gene pool. Let Darwin's work be done, i say. You dumb enough to ride without a helmet? you get outta my gene pool. I find as i get older i have a lower and lower tolerance for outright stupidity... 9. Now McCain-Edwards....THAT would be a ticket right there, boys! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  10. If you go to europe...go. to. SPAIN. Seems like so many people do the "tour of europe" thing and completely skip the best country there. Spain is amazing, and i found it to be very backpacker-friendly, too. and if you go to spain, check out the north. southern spain is wonderful, but northern spain (cataluña and the basque country) are just absolutely gorgeous. San Sebastian is still one of my favorite places in the world. Anyway...yeah. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  13. How about this: http://www.neuticles.com/index1.html hahaha. yeah, i love my dogs. but come ON. extreme dog people have issues. seriously. Same with extreme cat people. It's one thing to recognize your dogs' personalities and quirks...another thing to cater to their every whim... 16. absolutely. Though, when we're talking about the political landscape of the US (at least, the one that the majority of ignorant americans believe, and the one the candidates like to exploit), I would say "Hispanic" = "Mestizo or Amerindian descendants who hail (originally, or through ancestry) from what we consider to be Latin America". which is a PC way of saying: "spanish speakers who have darker skin than a northern european". Sorry, but i bet if you walked up to the average blonde haired american and asked them what "Hispanic" meant, that is what they'd say (not in so many words). THAT is what politicians pander to, and exploit. it's sad, but true. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. Oh, *I* don't disagree with you. But *politically*, Hispanics are considered a racial minority, and that is, of course, what we are discussing here. So we can rant about their classification as such, or just accept that in today's political landscape, they ARE considered a minority and begin the discussion there. Or if you want, don't consider it a race, consider it a huge sector of voters that tend to have a certain characteristic(s) in common or identify with each other, like evangelicals, women, organized labor, or what have you. Makes no difference. Bill Richardson belongs to the group labeled "Hispanic", like Huckabee belongs to the group labeled "evangelical" or Hilary Clinton belongs to the group labeled "women". 19. wow. sad, and telling. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  20. The most qualified, experienced candidate on the Dem side is far and away Bill Richardson. but in the television age, that makes no difference. As to the race question...Hispanics are the largest minority in the US...if we go based on that, who wins? Richardson again. too damned bad that he has no chance in hell of winning. 21. although the damn writer's strike has Downloads fall into the "Supersaver" clause of most recording contracts, so artists barely make pennies. *** except for web content that they produce. but back on track, i don't download much, mainly because i'm lazy, but i don't buy CDs, either. i have my satellite radio, and it makes me happy. How do you think satellite radio fits in, DSE? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. Then don't move to the IE. I lived there for almost 10 years. Traffic sucks and keeps getting worse, the air is not what I'd call clean (better than LA proper but not clean) and there's plenty of crime (Riverside county is one of the biggest areas for meth in the country). The schools in Elsinore and Hemet (east of Perris, less expensive housing than Temecula) are not all that good either (my kid went to Hemet public schools, my niece is going to private school in Elsinore). Guess it really depends on how much you can afford to spend on housing and living expenses. Personally I'll never move back; NorCal has everything I need with the advantages of way nicer people and way cleaner air. Yah, i agree about Riverside/San Bernadino counties. However, Inland North County San Diego is a very nice place to live! Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Mira Mesa, etc. Lived in both, and we're seriously considering staying in Poway for a good while, now.
