  1. "Facts"? "Most places"? I just went through in my head the 20-odd DZs in the UK and I can think of at least 10 that remain open throughout the winter. I'm not sure what your definition of "late fall" and "spring" are but I don't think they are the same as mine seeing as the ones that do close are generally closed for December/January. The Scandanavians have quite a short season. Those in the northern states of the US have short seasons. They still pay annual subcriptions. 2. There's a London Skydiver's meet tonight at the Montague Pyke on Charing Cross road. Come along and we'll discus the myriad of issues (and possible solutions)> Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  3. Thanks for all your help and support Michael. The BPA has worked hard over the years to reduce the insurance aspect of the membership and now have partners who are very supportive of our Association and its aims. It's an ongoing process. We welcome constructive suggestions from the membership (as opposed to ill-advised abuse). Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  4. Cost of living is generally higher in the UK. Our third-party insurance makes up the majority of the cost but also has 40 times the coverage of yours. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  5. There's already a (WS) BS forum...it's called the Bonfire. It's not mine or Scott's decision to make, you'd need to ask xMesox. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  6. I see no rules broken. It seems people want it both ways. They want to have the banter of the small community but don't like it when things get petty (not directing this at you Andreea). Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  7. http://bit.ly/eNtDJA just break up B.A.S.E. jumper a bit Edit: Oh and no WS either. Should probably move this to General or Bonfire! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  8. Is your slump a major motivation for your move to B.A.S.E. jumping? If so, it's the wrong reason. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  9. Plus it's a hard disk drive based camera which has it's own issues in unstable and lower air pressure environments. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  11. He was a little clueless to what exactly went wrong, but he knew something did. We explained it to him and when heard the other skydivers screaming while watching the video he may have gotten even more spooked. Might have been better to debrief in private? 12. Found this HandCam thesis recently and it made me think of this thread. Couldn't find it posted elsewhere. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  16. Just a few weeks ago a fairly new jumper with a brand new Skyhook equipped Icon had the same issue. Several people at the DZ tried to tell her she must have been mistaken when she said the riser got hung up and didn't release from the cover. Sounds like she got it right. So she incorrectly packed the main risers under the reserve risers tab. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  17. Why would you choose a CX110 or cx150 when the cx160 is exactly the same price as the 150? Or is it solely due to the availability you base your choice upon? at least currently on amazon it is Image stabilization. Optical on the 160 (could be prone to shake) versus Electronic on the others which can be switched off. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  18. Not even the wingsuits? The wingsuits change the application but not really the function. Can you actually think of something relating to the gear, that applies to the tandem that cant apply to a single wingsuiter. Please let us all know. Remember its a sigma. I wad talking about the harness and attachment. Surely the wingsuits are modified to accommodate this? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  19. There have been a few links in this thread of previous tandem wingsuit jumps, but they were prior jumps with experienced jumpers, not a tandem student as in the actual jump that inspired this thread. This thread contains a link to a video that contains a few seconds of the jump. About 30 seconds in. There's a fair bit of carnage in the video and the wingsuit tandem part is brief/heavily edited. Makes me wonder what isn't being shown. Then again, I don't think the editors are skydivers. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  21. What's the deal with the reserve ride at the end? Looks like the cutaway handle in the jumpers hand (and free) yet the main still appears to be connected? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  22. Interesting that they invert one of the cameras to get the lenses as close together as possible. I thought you needed a bit of space between the lenses for the 3D effect to work. Is it because the lenses are so wide and physically small that they are placed so close together? Edit: so rereading this thread I see the images where the mount has both camels in the same orientation but watching the video the mount definitely has one rotated 180 degrees. I also notice the video is a month older so I assume this is the standard way now. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  24. http://presscentre.sony.eu/Content/Detail.aspx?ReleaseID=6364&NewsAreaID=2&ClientID=1 Some models in April with have a built in 60" projector. CX360VE will have video light and flash. Interesting (to me) is that all HD cams (except CX130E) will get the mic jack back and wider lenses than normal (29.8mm)? Optical image stabilisation to be used. "All HD Handycam camcorders will also be equipped with a new feature called Tracking Focus, which maintains focus of moving objects. Similar to Face Touch, where you can select a person in the frame to be prioritized, you can touch a subject in the shot, such as dog or vehicle" USB Cable looks a bit of a pain in that it's another thing to be secured but it makes it a lot easier to get footage from by plugging an extension cable into rather than opening an enclosing box and taking the camera out. 25. There have been and will continue to be events in the run up to the 253 and 500 ways that campers get on such as JFTC, CSR, TSR, 200-way that have significant benches where people can and do get cut. These events are qualifiers for the 500-way and I would expect that the organisers wouldn't put people on it who haven't proven themselves under stress.
