  4. Yea, I know what you mean (I have 12 years)...after a while, it's only the "ultra hotties" you talk to when you're working - average girls figure they don't have a chance with you. It's kind of strange really - you end up being the "ultra", if only for the job you're doing. Ummm... Ugggggh........ Yeah and I get laid ALOT cuz I skydive! kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. 5. I have been w/o internet for nearly a week while moving and just got the news. My first reaction after reading some of Katie's post was tears and some anger. I went to the bedroom to wake my fiancee and tell her how much I love her. I told her of the news as Nate was the only skydiver she knew other than myself. I went right into a "remember when".... She has a vivd memory of Nate from her only 2 trips to the DZ with me. Nate first introduced himself and then proceeded to devote 30 minutes talking to a skydiver's whuffo girlfriend about hown she should feel at home that no one is seen as outsider at a DZ that we are all family and all are welcome. He made every effort to make her feel at ease and encourage her to return. That to me was Nate Gilbert; open, inviting, friendly outgoing, patient, caring and sensitive. I first met Nate and TJ when they came to ASC. I was a new jumper they were skygod's too busy for a lowly guy such as myself, or so I thought. I kept my distance as I was shy, always affraid to ask people to jump with me in fear of messing up someones skydive. Then i actually met Nate. He walk halfway across the DZ to introduce himself to me and ask about me and my experience, what I was working on with my jumps, what goals I had and if i wanted Mexican food for dinner. I gather that's how alot of Nate introductions happened. I am not sure anyone ever introduced themselves to Nate as he knew no strangers. With Nate you went from intro to "ya wanna come hang out or eat with us?" in about 10 minutes. It was like the man was on a mission to unite this family we all are a part of and to adopt a few from the outside as he went. I could go on for days with "remember when" and perhaps I will at a later date. For now I just wanna say a few things... For evey time I jumped with nate i wish I had 10 more to go with them, for every converstaion I had with Nate i wish I 100 to go with them. Nate was one of the most talented skydivers I have ever had the pleasure of knowing much less jumping with. Nate was much more than that though, he influenced me in many ways. He was a shining example of just how powerful a smile could be to an uneasy stranger. His methods of teaching went far beyond just skydiving proving that focusing on the positive can do wonders for your confidence, something I take out of the sky and into daily life on every jump beacause of Nate. If ever you meet a person that just makes you feel better by simply smiling and saying hello then perhaps you've met someone touched by the angel of Nathan Gilbert. I'll miss that smile and that very first hello on the DZ everytime, yet I will cherish having known such a great man and forever be thankful for the tools he has left us all. Godspeed Nathan Gilbert Chris Goff
  6. Hope you enjoyed my back yard! I live about 5 miles from Highlands, NC and trout fish in the Chatooga and West Fork Chatooga weekly. Waterfall hunts are loads of fun, but my personal fav is camping in the rain. I have lived here for a year now and still explore the area every chance I get. Our national forest are truly a treasure and while I'm not a tree hugger I still am amazed when I look out over thousands of acres and can say its mine to enjoy just as it yours to enjoy. Just curious did you get to see Bridal Veil falls or Dry Falls near Highlands?? kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. 9. I'd skip the rubber map if ya like to drive fast LOL. I had a purpose made rubber "bed mat" in my Dodge. Nearly lost in on several occasions. If the wind rips just right theylike to hop. As for the prep time i dropped my new F-250 off at 8 am had it back by 2pm when i got it sprayed. Only advice I give is be careful of sharp edges on cargo the lining can be cut or gouged. 11. As my home was built before 1980 I understand that to remove original linoleum flooring where amosite (brown asbestos) cement products used in glue- it will be a health hazard so need to hire asbestos "busters" to remove it safely (also having kitchen linoleum removed & ripping up carpet as want wood floors..) UUuuuumm well sorta. As it is possible or even probable that there is asbestos present in your flooring hiring a specialized company may not be so necessary. Asbestos IS harmful, but prolonged unprotected exposure is what is the biggest danger. Provided you use/wear proper protective clothing, rerspirator and gloves you'll be fine. Just so long as you don't take a sander to the stuff or grind it up into tiny airborn particles. kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. 12. Well hun having extensive experience in this area I'd say the advice you have received so far is EXCELLENT. I'd only add a thing or 2. You mentioned possibly putting up some wainscoting ("pretty wood on the bottom half of the wall")... That is a very good idea for covering the scars you will most likely have from removing the cabinet/sink. There are varied methods for installing this, but here is what works best for me. First remove all the baseboard which will most likely have to be done in order to install new flooring anyway. Second I usually take 4'x8' sheets of beadboard (beaded plywood about $28 a sheet) and cut them to 4'x4'. Only problem with this size is having to cut them around existing electrical switches/outlets which in bathrooms are located at 42". So if your lazy cut the sheets to 36". You will notice the sheets have both an underlying and overlapping side so they appear seemless when installed. It is usually best to draw a level line around the room at the desired top height of sheets and hold to line. Start in one corner and circle the room ignoring small gaps in corners (very unlikey your corners are actually square or plum) both inside and outside corners. A few tips: I usally mark the factual location of studs (don't assume because you found one stud that the next is 16" away) just above the top line so as I hold the sheet up I know where to nail and also it is crucial to align your joints and seams over a stud so that the joints remain tight. I also would suggest adding a bit of glue to the backside of each sheet after test fitting and before nailing. The glue helps hold the sheets tight to the wall as the tend to swell away from it over time otherwise. Oh yeah and I always hold any wood in bathrooms barring baseboard up at least one half inch from the floor. One overflowed toilet and the plywood will drink it up like a straw. Once all the sheets are up and flooring is down you can install/reinstall the baseboard. When doing a wainscoting I prefer to use a baseboard with a large top edge or even better a square top edge as the corner mold better fits to this type i recommend just a plain ole 1x6 for the best look. You will now need to install a top mold or banding. This comes in several varieties from square to chairrail and has a 1/4" grove out of the back bottom side to lip over the beaded plywood. It installs much like baseboard and will cover any slight variations in the tops of your sheets. One tip on this top trim, it's your last chance to get that top line nice and level/straight so take a look at it before permanently attatching. Lastly you can now install inside and outside corner mold specifically made for wainscoting and paneling to cover the gaps you have in corners. Well hope that small novel helps and best of luck to ya!! *****I accept no responsibility for the loss of patience or fingers resulting from attempts to tackle the task discussed. 13. Unfortunately the website seems to be behind... there has been no new info there for a while nor on the Appalachian website last update was something about testing and a news crew visit. I am assuming it is not open yet or either there marketing is lacking. I'm anxious to try the place out looks sweet! testing?? heck I'll be a test "dummy" I fly like one half the time anyway! kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. 17. Skydive the Farm Just wanted to say if you haven't already you MUST check this place out. I hate sounding like a shameless plug, but it's sooo true. I made my first trip out this past weekend and was VERY impressed. Hans, Dave, Harvey, Justin and the gang have a beautiful place. Even if you didn't jump it's like spending a day in a peaceful park. 55 freakin acres to land in!?!? & 2 ponds. Th atmosphere is laid back and chill and unlike any I have found at other DZs. It makes the drive easier for me knowing I'll have a warm reception and planty of cool peeps to jump with. I'd also add it may be one of the better Dzs I've seen for spending the day as a non jumper with plenty of shade and a swiwwin hole for the kids. Can't wait to get back, see ya there soon. 18. Having been the victim of a nail through my thumb I know how these things can happen. One explanation for someone shooting themselves multiple times is that they were falling perhaps? i have heard of that happening and in an attempt to grab on for life instincts tell you to squeeze! I actually watched by brother slide half down a roof and through a hole 10ft. down to the floor with a running skill saw in hand. He was cutting and started to slide and never let go of the trigger. Landed falt on his back with saw above him never touching the ground. I also think the basic lack of understanding that MANY people have of power tools and general construction hazards helps me understand why my damn liability insurance is so high. Hell just last week i had to explain to a homeowner why she couldn't walk in her house why the framing crew was nailing down the roof sheathing, hmmm? Go ahead, but I wouldn't with a hardhat a good buzz and some damn good kharma! kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. ASC Rocks!

Sorry I didn't get to meet you there sounds like you had a blast. ASC is my home DZ, though I don't get there often enough. 20. [replyIf I have to shoot someone, I shoot to stop. Not to kill, and sure as shit none of the silverscreen to wound crap. I shoot them to stop them from threatening me or others. Sorry to disagree (not really) but I do. Next time you are around a cop, soldier, ladies gun self defense course grad or other tell them your plan. There are very few people on this earth skilled enough to shoot to wound successfully, which is why you should shoot to kill. BTW one reason there are so few people on this earth that are skilled enough to shoot to wound successfully is beacuse there are so few people wise to enough own a fire arm much less become proficient in the use of said weapon. kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Wow what emotions expressed on something so few people know anyhting about. Sure what the heck let's press charges and make an ass out of the prosecutors. We all know how good the conviction rate is for pro athletes off the paying field. Let's try to walk the line on a cloudy prosecution case and make an ass out of all legal parties involved. Make another greasy lawyer a superstar defense attorney cuz he gets good press. Who am I to say what to do in this case?? I only played for 10 years as junior and never got into the politics. I have attended over 500 NHL and IHL games and only 300 of those were while covering the NHL for a news publication bith a s a writer and photographer. With my unqualified resume I am not about to tell the NHL or any jumpy prosecutor what he should do. The whole thing is quite funny to me. It's kind of like reading a bunch of whuffos opinions on skydiving just after they read or hear about the latest fatality. "his chute failed to function properly..." ugggh you mean the dumbass hook turned at 80ft. w/ 60 jumps flying a 79sq.ft. eliptical?? kwak Sometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield.
