The older I get the more I realize Democracy is a pretty lousy way to run much of anything. Heinlein once wrote something to the effect of "The inherent Flaw in Democracy is that it only works until the Politicians realize they can buy your vote with your own money". I think they have figured that out. Each Politician seems to be trying to buy our Vote by either telling us they will let us keep more of our money or by telling us they will take more of someone else’s money and give that to us in some form or another. The "Warm Body" concepts of democracy are the most frightening. When any Warm Body can cast a vote and it has the same weight as the vote of those that are somewhat educated and informed you get what we have now. Anther great Quote from Heinlein, "Democracy can't work. Mathematicians, peasants, and animals, that's all there is — so democracy, a theory based on the assumption that mathematicians and peasants are equal, can never work. Wisdom is not additive; its maximum is that of the wisest man in a given group. " Democracy is based on the assumption that a million men are wiser than one man. How's that again? I missed something. Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort. So with.. I think I have finally decided who I will be voting for this election. Is that really the way you read that?? Wow!! I never mentioned Obama (or McCain for that matter) or anything other than we need to build more power generation right now if the electric car is coming. (And I hope it is). I have spent the past 12 years working for a company where every single employee (with the exception of myself) came directly out of the Nuclear industry. I am the only person that works for this company that is not a degreed Nuclear Engineer. My knowledge is second hand but it came directly from my partners and co-workers that spent the first 20 years of their careers Designing, Building and running Projects at Nuclear Plants and then later running Planning and Scheduling for Nuke Plant Start ups. When they tell me it will take 10 years to get another on up and running, I believe them. Yep. It is conjecture.. But it is conjecture that comes directly from the people that would be doing the Planning and scheduling for the construction if we ever got a new project started. And I am glad that it seems we all agree on something for a change. Start Building New Power Generation Facilities soon as possible. We will need them.

I have been a member of the Libertarian Party since 1986. I worked the Libertarian National Convention (Ron Paul was our Nominee that year) in 1988 and founded the Libertarian Chapter on Campus at the College I went to. I became disillusioned with the Libertarian in the mid-90`s when the Radicals, Nutcases and Legalize Drugs crowd took over the Party. I still believe in many of the principals of the Libertarian party.. However.. Bob Barr is a fucking joke and as far from a Libertarian as you can get. He is a disgusting Low Life Lying scumbag piece of shit. Bob Barr was the congressman from my district when he still called himself a Republican. I would rather see Hillary Clinton in Office than this asshole (And if you knew how I felt about her, That is saying something). Him running as a Libertarian is a Joke and has destroyed any semblance of credibility the Libertarians had left (which wasn’t much).

That is in China. The exact same Plant being built here would take longer because of Union Issues, Additional Environmental Regulation, Additional Certifications and Documentation Requirements. Also there is the Ramp up period as the Supplier infrastructure will have to be rebuilt in this country. It has been 30 years since we built Nuke Plants here and dont forget that since N.E.`s have not exactly been employable in this country for the past 20 years... They may be a little hard to find (Along with the Skilled craftsmen that it will take to do the work and all the inspectiors.) If we started one tomorrow, It would be 10 years before it went live. As the supplier infrastructure started getting rebuilt, that time could be reduced for future projects but the first one will take 10 years. Also don’t forget the legal Battles that will hang it up for a few years. We can deal with ALL of these things But we need to get started right now. I am not putting a time line on anything. I am just saying we need to start building Power generation Plants right now if we are going to meet the energy demands of the future, especially if we are betting on the electric car.

Yes. Longer if you take into account the legal battles that will have to be fought to get it done. Yep and it looks promising. Now How do we Charge the Batteries once it gets here? We already have rolling brown outs during peak demand because we cant generate enough electricity. No argument from me on that one. What we can do Right now to get started: Start Building new Power Generation Plants immediately. We will Need them once the electric car becomes viable. Building the cars without building the means to charge the Batteries is pointless.

You do realize that we do not have the infrastructure to Charge those batteries don’t you?? That takes electricity. We can barely produce enough now to meet peak demands. If we realistically plan on having viable electric cars as the norm with-in 10 years, We MUST build new power generation plants TODAY!! It will take at least 5 to 10 years to build new Nuclear Power Plants and that is AFTER all the legal battles that the Enoviro Whacko`s and the NIMBY`s throw up have run their course. If we do not start building new power generation plants immediately and the viable electric car comes with-in the next 10 years, We will not have a way to charge those cars.

Did it change anyone’s mind?? I went into watching the debate not overly thrilled with either candidate (although leaning towards McCain) and came out actually feeling a little better about both and most likely leaning even more towards McCain. I didn’t see a clear winner, just one that I tended to agree with more than the other. I am curious if anyone here (that was NOT already decided) came out of the debate with a decision or if anyone changed their minds based on what they heard tonight?
