How do i get a rig through the airport?
Thanatos340 replied to mach2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This has nothing to do with Getting some questions. It is simply a Matter of not wanting to check any Bags if at all possible. One Carry-on (Small Weekend Bag with Clothes and Alti, Jumpsuit and Helmet) and One personal Item - Rig. If I put the Rig in a Bag or Suitcase. I now have two carry-ons and would be asked to check one. I always travel with printed copies of both the TSA Regulation and the Airlines Policy (If Available) on Traveling with a rig which CLEARLY states that rigs are permitted as Carry-on`s. If a Passenger Complained, I would offer to let the Attendant Keep the Rig up front in their Carry-ons if it would make them feel better but I would not check it as My Life depends on this Rig and I really do not want to let it out of my control. The key to dealing with any situation like this is to always be Polite and Reasonable but Firm. I would insist that I be rebooked on another Flight before I would allow my Rig to be checked. I have actually done this once when Traveling for Business and I was told there was no room for my Lap Top Bag (Bulkhead Seat and the Bins were full.) I politely told them there was no way I was going to Check a Laptop. If they could not accommodate me and my one carry-on on this flight, I would be happy to take a later flight. They rebooked me and I left an Hour later on a different flight that had plenty of room. My Rig is Pretty Big. Icon 1-6 with 188 Main and 175 reserve. You could easily fit two of them into a Size-Wise Container if you placed them in Yin-Yang. If the rig is too big for the Size wise then it wouldn’t fit in a Carry-on suitcase anyway. The only Rig that I could see not fitting would be a Tandem Rig. -
How do i get a rig through the airport?

I flew commercially with my rig about 10 Times last year. The first Time I was super Paranoid about it and put it in a Suit case. Screener asked what it was, I said Parachute and they said OK and that was it. Same scenario on the Return Flight. The next few times I went I flew, It was just for a weekend trip and I didn’t want to deal with Checking my Luggage. So I had my Suitcase in Hand and the Rig on my Back. No Problem at all other than a few random comments from other passengers. Especially when I requested Exit Row seating (Im 6'2" so regular seats just dont cut it. Much more leg Room in the Exit Row). No problems at all. Had a few security screeners ask me about Jumping but it was just the usual Wuffo questions. Once I had a Supervisor ask if he minded if he called a few others to see the Rig since most had never seen one. I agreed and explained the Cypress as they ran it back through the x-Ray for the others to see. I also showed then How to pick up the rig in needed and Made sure they understood that the Shiny metal handle was a No No. Not just because it would cost the owner of the rig a Repack but because the Pilot Chute was spring loaded and could possibly Injure someone if the pin is pulled and someone is standing directly over it. If they ever did have to open a reserve, Make sure to stand back when doing so and be ready to deal with a Pissed off skydiver afterwards. They laughed and sent me on my way. The only problem I ever had was the last time I flew a couple weeks ago. I was flying out of Orlando and I didn’t realize until I got to the Airport that my Drivers License/ID had expired. That meant that I would have to go through SSSS Screening. Soon as my Rig passes without Question as usual through the x-Ray.. I am Pulled off to the side for Wanding. A TSA agent walks up to my Rig and Opens up the Main part of the Container. That is when I said Hey wait a Minute... If you are going to open My Rig I want to watch to make sure you dont do anything that could put my life in danger next time I use it. Her reply was ... "You mean this is a Parachute?? I though it was just a BackPack". I suggested she get a supervisor and/or check TSA regulations for dealing with a Parachute. She went and talked to her Supervisor and He told her to Swap it and let it go. They swabbed it and then Helped me Reclose the Container (Shoe String works great for a Pull up cord). The entire exchange was very polite. Airlines allow One Carry on and One personal Item. The Rig has always passed for my Personal Item however If I put it in a Duffel or Suit case it would count as the Carry on and I would have to check my other Bag. I hate Checking Luggage and try to avoid it if at all possible. -
Several Years ago My Brother was Racing in A Street Legal Foot Brake Class.. The One car that totally amazed us was a Buick Grand National. 6 Cylinder Turbo Regal. The car was completive with all the 8 Cylinder Small Blocks. Truly Amazing Car. If I ever bought a Non-Mopar Hot Rod.. The Grand National would be it.

I agree about Street Racing in Traffic or Neighborhoods.. Idiots that do that should be shot. But Street Racing can be done safely (relatively Speaking.) Closed Industrial Parks, Old Air Strips, Abandoned Shopping Mall are all Good Places for Street Racing. Street Racing is Like the BASE of Auto Racing. Part of the Thrill is the Chance you could get caught. But putting other People in Danger is Just Plain Stupid.

And they can then film the results for material for an different Line of "Specialty" DVD`s.

We all have opinions.. Having been around MANY forms of Auto Racing for my entire life.. My Father, All my Uncles and Both my Brothers all Raced. I can say that I prefer Drag Racing to all other forms for many reasons. First is the people involved. Drag Racers in general are a much friendlier bunch. In between rounds everyone helps each other out, I have had a Guy I just beat in a Previous Rounds lend me Parts straight off his Car so that I can make the next Round. Help each other out during the week and in between rounds But once you pull to the line.. IT WAS ON!!. Give it all you got and Hope you got enough. Second Place is not an Option!! The Race is usually won or lost in 100th of a second. Drag Racing is much more about understanding your Car and conditions around it to get the most out of it. Bracket Racing (Boring as hell to watch but Fun to participate in) allows ANYONE to come to the track and be competitive if they understand their car. Just because you spent $20K on you last rebuild doesn’t mean that you really have that much of an advantage over the guy the guy who does all his own work and has an Old beater he has been working on. Dial-it in.. Run your Number or Go Home. Round Track Racing is a TOTALLY different Class of people. I tried Dirt Track for a while.. You had to guard your shit constantly as other racers would try to sabotage you any chance they got. Constant Fights in the Pits between Drivers and Crew members. Generally not an environment I want to be around. Tried Road Racing - Nothing but pretentious Type-A Assholes bragging about their latest Conquest (Whether it was a New Business, Another new Porsche, or The new secretary they were bangin.) I never met a Bigger group of assholes. Definitely not a group I wanted to spend my weekends surrounded by. Always back to Drag Racing. I just sold my Daughters Junior Dragster and I am about to bring my Duster back out of the Moth Balls and pull the Drive Train to drop in my 66 Belvedere. I hope to be running it this Spring. Like I said .. we all have opinions.

Real Drivers know where the Finish Line is and drive Straight to it instead of driving around in circles looking for it!!

I did a lot of Stret Racing in the Mid 90`s. I ran a Sleeper 71 340 Duster (That is where the Thanatos340 came from). It was always nice Look at those High Dollar Saleens in the Rear View Mirror. Nothing looks better in a Rear view than a Mustang!! I never lost a single race. Over $10K in the engine alone. All Machine work by Barnett Performance. The Body.. Well rusted out POS. In downtown Atlanta there was an Industrial Park off Moreland Ave that 100`s of people would show up at every Friday and Saturday Night. Great old fashion "Run what you Brung" Street Racing. General protocol was to each hand a C-Note to Neutral Party. Old fashion Start with Usually a Hottie standing between the cars and a Flag Start. Think the other car Jumped the start.. Stop right there and do it again. Winner take all. It went on for Months at the same location. Then One Friday Night we noticed that all the off-duty State Patrol Officers didn’t show up with their Dugan Mustangs as usual. Not being Bright enough to realize what was up.. The races started as usual. About Midnight.. Helicopters and a ridiculous amount of Atlanta Police Cars Surrounded the Place. Any cars that had run that night (Including Mine) were impounded and Driver taken to Jail. Over 30 people arrested total. It took about $2,000 in legal fees to get my License back. Same thing happened again to local Street Racers in 2001 when they tried to restart the Races at an Abondoned Strip Mall.

Anyway to tell it to Build a Playlist from just the Checked song in the Library so I dont have to spend another 3 hours going through the Library again and coping songs to a Play list??
-
OK.. I have expressed my EXTREAM displeasure with Apple (Let us do the Thinking For you) products on here before.. I Finally gave in and decided to "Build a Library" in iTunes so I could easily Move songs back and forth to my iPod Mini. Spent at least 10 Hours the past few nights fixing all the Tags and getting everything just right. Now the Problem.. I have over 80gb of Music and a 4gb iPod. I spent another 3 Hours Going through the 80GB of Music (Over 20,000 songs) and Picking JUST the ones I wanted to transfer to the iPod. First Big Problem... As I am Looking through the list of 20,000 song in my Library and Checking just the ones I want... Where the hell can see the total size of the songs I have selected?? At the Bottom is just tells me the TOTAL for Library. OK.. So after all this work.. I Totally Clear my iPOd, Plug it in and .... Guesss what?? I selected too many songs. So the Apple "Let us think for you" takes over and offers to pick my songs for me. OK.. But IT totally ignores the Check marks and Builds a Random list from my ENTIRE Library. UGGGGGG!!!!! Totally ignoring the little Check marks I spent hours selecting. Anyway.. Am I just too stupid to use Apple products or is there something I am Missing here? Is there an easy way to do this?
