Not at all what I am saying. But that Boogie brings out a shitload of spectators. FACT: a very Large Number of Wuffo Spectators (I have heard +/- 1000) witnessed the accident. And I am not trying to argue, I really want to understand why some people are so opposed to having rules about when and where you should be allowed to do HP Landings? Leaving it up to the judgment of the Canopy pilots clearly isn’t working. Maybe you have perfect judgment and would never make a Mistake, but that doesn’t mean the next guy wont. I have never said Banning anything was a good idea. but I am saying there is a time and place for everything. The question here is "Is it really the Time and Place to be doing HP Landings into the main landing area when much slower less maneuverable canopies are trying to land there?" If it is NOT, then we need to make that crystal clear in both rules and actions. I am also saying that we need to address other aspects of this as well and focus on canopy control and awareness at ALL Levels as well.

And it happens directly in front of close to 1000 Wuffo Spectators. That is what happened at Dublin. This is more than just a Swooper problem, It concerns all of us. But step one is make it crystal clear that if you Swoop through Traffic (180 or 270), There will be repercussions. Many of us dont trust your Skills and/or Judgment as much as You do (You/Your not directed at anyone in particular but the hypothetical Canopy Pilot that thinks he can still Pull it off) Each DZ should have their own Rules. Jumpers will decide if those rules are acceptable and let the DZO`s know with their wallets. Your right to Swoop ends when it puts someone else Life in Danger. ............... Years ago, It was fairly common for Canopy Pilot to try to catch cut-away mains. A Top Canopy Pilot was killed doing this. Now at my home DZ and many others around, there are hard fast rules in place that say "DONT Do That". We learned from tragedy. Hopefully we can do that again. There are many things that we all have done in the past that we now know better.

I have always heard that that Packers (Not Riggers) usually make more per weekend than anyone else on the DZ. If they packed 60 Tandem Rigs at the Average price of $10 each.. Well you can do the math. I remember a weekend a while back where one of our packers said she packed 84 rigs (Most Sport rigs so only $5 each plus tip) over 2 days.

Any Jump she made would be a "Tandem".

The Students or Low Timers are not as scary because we atleast have a Chance of avoiding them. they are not coming at us at such a high rate of speed. We atleast have a Chance of seeing them and avoiding them. It is the swooper that setsup above you that you have no chance at all of avoiding. That is what many people are now afraid of. And Hippy.. And since December it is 75%. 4 Incidents (6 dead), 3 incidents (4 dead) caused by HP Turns and another canopy being in their path. Clearly the old method of keep your head on a swivel isnt working. I am not trying to blame anyone or even suggest anything. I just cant see how anyone can sit there and say they should be allowed to do 270`s or 180`s even into traffic or that there should not be any rules about when and where you can do HP Landings. That method clearly isnt working and people are dying. Seperate landing areas sounds like a great start and would be safer for all.

OK.. Please tell me what I am Missing?? It used to be "Keep your head on a Swivel, Fly a Predictable Pattern and avoid other canopies". That doent work when someone above sets up a 270 or 180 above you. I cant avoid those canopies once I turn onto final if they are above and/or behind me and they decide to Swoop anyway. The proposed solution is to remove those canopies that cannot be avoided to a safer area for the swooper and the regular canopy Pilots. What am I missing?

To win that kind of money they were either betting big or playing the Trifectas and Superfecta`s. Basic Bets: Quinella - Pick 1st and 2nd Place. Order does not matter as long as you picked the right 2. Exacata - Same as Quinella but Order does Matter. (Pays Better) (You can also do an Exacta Box which is an Identical Bet as the Quenella but sometimes pays better) Trifecta - Pick 1st through 3rd. Order matters but you can BOX them. in that case Order will not matter long as you have all 3) Pays pretty well. Superfecta (Big at Dog Tracks and Some Horse tracks) Pick 1st -4th. Almost always wheel or Box this bet. Really good payout. Just every race Pick two horses you like and Place $2 Quinella Bets. Or Pick 3 Horses and bet a Quinella Box for $6. Then if any of the horses come in First AND Second, you win. Have a Blast!! (And I am sure I misspelled Quinell, Exacta, trifecta and Superfecta)

You can try to down play this and rationalize it forever.. But Right now, People are scared. With good reason. Since December, 4 Incidents with 6 Dead (Possibly 5 incidents with 7 dead if you count yesterday at Z-Hills) of these only 1 was not caused by HP landings. I dont see how you cant say that this is not a problem. DZO`s are going to have to react to this if they dont want see thier planes flying lighter and lighter. Even if you are doing everything perfect, Exactly as you should, And some yahoo sets up their 270 above you, there is nothing you can do except pray and hope they see you in time. This sport is shrinking fast enough.

Once again, Skydive Arizona is leading the way. From leading the legal Fight against Skyride to now making a Clear and Concise rules for HP Landings. Thank you to Larry Hill for all that he is doing. Hopefully other DZ`s will soon follow suit. I Know Palatka and a few others have also already set forth rules.
