  1. Awesome! "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  2. I was reminded of this thread at work the other day. I gave my collegue a stern lecture about them neglecting some basic safety precautions while working with liquid nitrogen, but on reflection I was forced to add: "I only risk my life for fun". 3. Sadly, it doesn't often work like this. Some of my best openings on a Lightning (quick and on-heading) have been packed in under 10 minutes. Some of the worst were when I spend 30+ minutes to iron out all the creases before gently sliding it in. Bloody thing... Like that streamer you managed to pack into your lightning? 4. Seriously; do not buy a brand new main parachute unless you mean to keep it and jump it for a very long time. Relatively speaking, the newer the canopy is, the more money you'll 'lose' on reselling it. And you'd really stint on your last chance reserve canopy in favour of buying a newer main?
  5. AAD. I haven't got an RSL. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  6. Do they say anything about meds? And is this a rule of the Canadian skydiving association, a local DZ or of an other institution? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  7. Since you're overhauling the classifieds anyway, it would be nice if the search interface was updated a little. I'm thinking an extended version of the 'show classifieds from country' filter, allowing you to filter for 'wanted' and 'for sale', canopy and/or rig size, price range and perhaps even manufacturer. Of course its possible to use the search function and of course premier members have keyword notification to assist them, but I think the ability to filter the results in any given category would make buying/selling via DZ.com a lot easier. 8. Pizza margherita with anchovies, green olives and capers... mmmmmmm
  9. ...at 250 ft? ETA: I've ridden the plane down on several occasions, most of them because one of my students had made their decision not to jump. On one occasion I declined to jump due to bad weather, and on a few occasions due to the cloudbase being lower than it seemed (lower than 2.5k). 10. Not the old [training method 1] is better than [training method 2] again... You'll never convince someone who is dedicated to SL that AFF is 'better' - or vice versa. The main reason for that is because there isn't a best method. You just have to choose the method that works for you; the student. 11. Me and two buddies turned four points from exit altitude 6k to separation altitude 4.5k. - and it's on video (that's the actual good news). "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  12. That would be about the only reason I can think of to do a tandem.
  13. Just do it without traumatizing someone like a train driver... who sees the suicide happen and is powerless to stop the train in time.. or the train warden, who (in the Netherlands at least) is obligated to verify that a person really has jumped (it can happen in the blink of an eye), or the firemen who have to collect the bodyparts.. Suicide is a viable way to go, just not this kind of suicide. Unfortunately, other people are usually not the first thing on a possible suicide's mind. 14. Replying to Davelepka because his post is the last in the thread. Between all the 'you should(n't) do all this while tracking' stuff, I kinda miss 'looking back between your feet and keeping your buddies in sight'. If you know where everyone else on your group is, you get fewer surprises at pull time. Am I missing something? 15. [smartass] Yes, the separation from the other groups in the load[/smartass] "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  16. * Why not? * I'd rather jump from a perfectly good airplane than a malfunctioning one. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  17. Or on 10K boxes. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  18. Does this count as a classic Skymama Quote? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  19. That's about the dumbest argument I've ever heard... Right back at you, mate! If people do not speak out, nothing will ever change. I applaud people like Nataly who stand up for themselves. However, on a very different note, sexism always seems to anger/offend me way more when it comes from women. It doesn't matter whether the sexism is directed at other women, at men in general or at me personally. I somehow feel that, given the history of the strife for equal rights, women should know better than that. But I tend to be naive in these things, I guess. 20. I don't know.. Is it a brand new main? Is it his first packjump on a Freepack CREW setup? I sure as hell needed help with those - and I had over 200 jumps back then. Easy to judge when you're not in possession of any facts. 21. People who write 'Fack' or 'Feck' instead of 'fuck'. What's up with that anyway? People who use all kinds of obscure American acronyms, since I'm way too lazy to look those up. Dutch people. People who use caps to emphasise some of their statements. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  22. Dude. It's been on Facebook. By now it's been distributed and redistributed so many times by now that one more post on DZ.com isn't going to make any difference. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  23. This. Best advice I've read in quite a while.
  24. Couldn't you just use a larger canopy then? I mean, the WL would be lower, but so would the descent rate. Or am I oversimplifying? I have not jumped anything smaller than a 160, which is exciting enough for me at 1.4-1.5. I jump a Storm 190 for freefaal and a Lightning 176/160 for CF. I can land all three canopies reasonably well without any kind of speed inducing manoeuvres, though with the Lightnings I have the feeling that there is relatively little margin in the timing of when to place my foot. The Sotrm on the other hand has awesome flare power, most of which is in the last stages of the flare.
