So I take it your kind of turned off by the laser method? I've read that's one of the better ways to get a tattoo removed(if not the only effective one).
-
wow. I'm going to have to play with that later.

Humm, what a bummer of a situation you've got to handle here. Your right though, your best bet here would be to involve the school administration/cops. I sincerely hope it works out for you and your kid. It sounds like he's got a good mother to help watch out for him.
-
Um, in my state uninsured motorists pays for medical bills when someone doesn't have health insurance - collission pays for things like this. Comprehensive pays for "acts of God". (Accidents in general make rates go up.)

Comparing the schoolyard to a battered woman situation doesn't make sense. Mostly because there is no group dynamic.

you kid busting out some personal defense moves and putting the bully in his place would take care of the problem. The school might suspend him(your kid) for a while, but there are pretty much no repercussions past that. beating the crap out of the bully would increase your kids quality of life. Bringing in law enforcement will only serve to get the bully(and his friends) to pester you kid. So, respectfully, I think getting law enforcement doesn't nip this in the bud at all. :)

Wow. That's WAY not okay. That must have been hard for you to work through. I'm sorry to hear that some people can treat their children in such a deplorable fashion.

Anyone mentioned you are a skydiver in a job interview?
piratemike replied to mlbolon's topic in The Bonfire
I don't dwel on it, but I've said that I'm a skydiver when I've been asked about spare time in interviews. I think it's not something that most interviewers know what to do with. I once got some very whuffo style questions, that I answered as best I could. What it really comes down to is that I don't want to work somewhere that is not okay with me having a life. If they ask, tell them. Don't let the dialog go like this: interviewer: what do you do with your spare time? you: I can't work here on the weekends. you: cause I skydive. more like this: interviewer: what do you do with your spare time? you: I skydive, I When I interview, I sometimes ask this "what do you do outside of work" question. I'm looking for any answer that shows the person has interests outside of work. I don't want that boring workaholic around me. I want somebody that I want to goto lunch with, somebody that I converse with in passing. -
not smoking saves lives. on that same line of reasoning, lets ban smoking. not eating fast food saves lives, lets bad fast food. not riding motorcycles saves lives, lets bad those two wheeled things. not skydiving saves lives, lets bad that crazy activity. Your free to leave if you don't like these rules.

I think you meant "If they said it was OK, would you jump without your reserve, would you? Why not?" Well I wouldn't because it ups my chance of death or worse a lot. If somebody else wants to jump without a reserve, and they are my friend, I will not be stopping them. I may not even voice my opinion that this is a bad thing like I do with my base friends. It's their choice. I suppose the argument can be made that having these kind of laws helps to create a environment where there is less pressure to do these stupid things. Though the whole "I don't want to support this person when the hurt themselves" argument doesn't seem to be a very good one. I mean, society wasn't bogged down with car crash victims before seatbelt laws existed.

So I see things like this in the media: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=1560e901-b615-4ad0-8bd0-5d1fbb55747b&k=56384 and I don't really care much about this guys religious beliefs and all, but if he doesn't want to wear a helmet, why do we make him? It seems crazy stupid not to, and I always will wear a helmet on a motorcycle, but if somebody wants to forgo the helmet, why make them? The same goes for seatbelt laws. for the record, I've never gotten a ticket for no helmet or no seatbelt because I always wear them.

You mean compared to this?! http://www.caraudiomag.com/features/0703_cae_chevy_nomad/photo_02.html Damn man, look at that stripe! That's got to provide enough lift by itself to counter the forces of the almost completely flat headlights and grill. I mean, come on, it's got a curved front window. What else do you need? eddited to add the freeekin "url" tags

That's probably a better way to deal with that situation. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting one of these people yet. I like to think that my insecurities won't make me behave differently than you. We will see. And yes, you most likley won't see theguy around the DZ.

Flying photos? What about some from the 1940s? http://www.retrofuture.com/flyingcar.html Admittedly, the ConvAIRCAR wasn't self-contained - you had to attach a 'flight unit' separately. Ironically, I guess as the technology has improved over the years, the practicability has worsened. 60 years ago you'd have had more chance of finding somewhere to take off, and less chance of hitting something while airborne. The concept of having a unit that needs to be attached to the car to fly seems like a very practical solution. You drive to your local airport where you store your flight unit, attach it, fly to another airport, unhook it, and drive away. Most of the modern flying cars focus on making the tiny car fly by itself, a proposition that seems like it would use a lot more energy given the inferior aerodynamics you can get out of a car body.

Just the opposite, actually. Breakfast foods are usually ones that need the digestive help of being up, active and working. See, that's the kind of thinking that I'm talking about. Can you give any examples of these kinds of foods. Possibly links showing that they need you to be awake to be digested. What kind of things are eaten for breakfast? eggs bacon pancakes waffles milk oatmeal none of these things really require you to be up to digest them.
-
People do it. I'm not much of a person for breakfast food. I more often do dinner food for breakfast. I've heard people say things like dinner food "is to heavy" for breakfast. I'm pretty sure this is some learned thought as things like sausage and pancakes aren't light. Occationally I'll have a bagel with things on it for breakfast, and I kind of like that. I suppose it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for dinner if it were around.

I need help. Why does this piss me off so badly?
piratemike replied to Twoply's topic in The Bonfire
You know, I don't like phones a lot either. You could simply stop answering them so much. I did. I changed my voice greeting to say. "I don't check these messages. Please don't leave one. Send a text or email if you would like to comminucate with me" I know it is a bit anti social, but my life feels simpler since I've mostly gave up the phone. I lowered my cell plan from 1000 min/month to 300 min/month, and I haven't gone over it yet. I still pick up the phone when family, the GF, or most fellow jumpers call. It's made doing taxes much nicer as my tax person stopped calling me every 3 hours for more information. I can do a mass reply every day. -
I like it a lot. mabey I'll bring a slip n` slide to LP2008 just to try this out.

Ah, that is more interesting. I have seen it most on diesel's Well, you know, different parts of the country seem to have different behaviors. I remember seeing a good number of desil trucks in the area last time I was down in Eloy, but there aren't so many in this part of california. On a sort of related note. My dads shop was flushing tanks so infrequently that he got rid of the machine that he did it with in favor of freeing up the space for a parts washer. And there was some new enviromental concerns with flushing fuel tanks.
-
Off-road fuel from their own tanks at the ranch?? probably that accounts for some of the problem, but the tanks that I know of on their farms are that tax free desil. and with a few exceptions all of the trucks that I can think of ran on gas alone. my best guess on one of the fuel tank cleaning incidents that I remember involved a time when the customer ran out of gas somewhere on the farm, and used a dirty container to move gas to the truck. Ive seen people set their gas caps down on the ground, or on the top of the fuel pump tank side down while fueling. I suppose, given enough time, you'll transfer enough junk into the tank on the cap to cause some problems.
-
Some of those fuel tank cleaners work rather well. Most of them are detergents that are added to the gas before it gets to the pump anyhow(particularly the bg 209 and bg210 products), and if you don't use too much at once, or to often they are a good part of keeping your car/truck running well. We got a machine that uses a product simllar to the bg210 cleaner, and running it through some cars noticably brings life back into them. changes in fuel efficiency were not big enough to call conclusive. When I worked at my dads shop we occationally would flush the fuel tank of a ranchers truck. Sometimes these guys would get a bunch of crud in their fuel tank somehow. But normally fuel tanks don't need to be flushed.

So here is the hypothesis on why bloody marys make hangovers feel better: The bloody mary contains alcohol and juice. When you drink them you body stops working on processing the alcohol in your system, and goes to town moving the new alcohol to your blood stream or whatever. So you feel better for a while because your not metabolism alcohol in the same way while your drinking. In that period of time you have drank the tomato juice and hopefully some water. Given that a hangover is caused a lot from dehydration. By the time you body gets back to metabolism alcohol you have drank fluids and rehydrated some. So you feel better. I have no proof to support this, but it sounds good, and I really like bloody marys.
