So generally when I hike, I do not hike with poles. When I hiked Whitney, I had poles, and only used them in the bits where I was in snow. It's a heck of a hike. Really awesome view. Are you doing it in one day? two? As for the water, forget the tablet junk. Last JMT hike I brought one of these: http://www.envirotechproducts.com/clearbrook-water-filters.htm I liked the filter bottle a lot. I had my normal bottle, I would fill the filter bottle up, squeeze some watter into my normal bottle, then fill the filter bottle up again. It worked out well. Your welcome to borrow mine if your going to be in my area before then. One bit of advice though. There is a high lake with a camp area a few thousand feet below the summit(I think it's listed as trail camp onthe maps). This time of year with no snow, that will likley be your last water stop. be sure you drink plenty there, and fill up before going to the top. Good luck!

It shouldn't be to much of a problem. If you want it on a resume in the future, you can put down something like: video camera operator for productions. If asked about it you can say that you were making small movies for sale. Worst case you may have to leave it off of the resume if your going to work at a day care center or something.

45 rigs?! Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Man, that's a major theft. Hopefully you can track the guys down. As a matter of process, I try to verify the legitimacy of any used gear that I buy. But I'll be on the lookout for this stuff. I believe the punishment in India used to be to cut the nose off of the thief(s). That almost sounds like appropriate treatment here.

Yeah, it does suck.. But I've got a new approach: I'm going to the new tunnel in the bay area tonight. If any lovely lady(ies) would like to come by to date me, please head over.

HAHAHAHA! Trying to contain my laughing while here at work on that one. This is the homeland security department. We are going to shoot you now. Please stand still.

Girls who yell stuff at me from passing cars.

Ahh! that's funny. I'll have to email that to many people in a inappropriate fashion. -
Is this a current debate that your having? Arent' the sleeveless tops also known as "wife beaters"?

I don't know, do you think that 27 women voted here? Right now there are 27 votes for men being worse.

As it turns out, there is no way for the masses to learn about this kind of thing short of being screwed. Have you ever heard of a high school class that tries to tell kids about scams like this, and most parents don't know enough to voice a warning about it. People are inherently trusting of people that see to be in the know, and villains take advantage of that.

I kind of like the quote at the end. "Theres only three things that I've been afraid of, Electricity, heights, and women. And I'm married to." That is a very interesting job.

That was a fun jump. It really came together well for a 100th jump. This years LP was great. Thanks for being there Foz, You'll be back next year right?

A lot of people don't think of their pets as things with emotions and feelings. They think of their pets as objects that they own. If you paid $0 for something that needs a $1500 repair job, and you could just go get another one for free, you throw it away. It's the sad truth, but a lot of people just don't care about their animals very much.

I've heard this complaint from at&t users quite a bit. Aparantly it's impossible to stop all text messages to phones on the at&t network. My dad ended up having to switch off of at&t(went to verizon) to get the spam to stop. It totally sucks. This problem will probably get worse for you.

So I'll agree that the war is rather pointless. But to your previous comment. Mac's are PC's now. They have been since they went to the x86 arch.

on unix: mount -o loop /cd-image-file.iso /mnt/ then, copy off your files. This may work on Mac OS also, as it used to be Unix.

If you are really going through a thought process like that you should go for MOS(Mac OS). If there is any competition between win and mac, i'd suggest comparing against windows XP. Vista is a pile of junk. It's so freeking slow, and requires a $500 video card to be usable. I personally like Linux, particularly Ubuntu. But it's not for the faint hearted.

altimeter saying 5000 at ground level...
piratemike replied to hackish's topic in Safety and Training
I had that happen once also. I haven't had that happen again, but I have had 5+ second delays on my cross countries since then. I'd highly recomment the alti-track. -
Although I've not done that myself, it should work just fine assuming that your using a trickle charger rated for that size/type battery.

Aparantly Thujone doesn't contribute to any hallucinogenic effects of Absinthe according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thujone And, I very much hope that your not getting 300mg/liter because a solution of that concentration would be something quite fatal to drink: A toxicology study of alpha-thujone, the more active of the two isomers, in mice found the median lethal dose, or LD50, is around 45 mg/kg, with 0% mortality rate at 30 mg/kg and 100% at 60 mg/kg. And, your right, chugging 100 proof booze is pretty much always a bad idea. For reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe

So, given that most of the smoke canisters are a sugar potassium nitrate mixture, They will go bad after a while. As long as you haven't kept them in a warm place, they will probably be fine. Though one of the ones that I've got was made in 2002... I'm a bit worried about this one. Well, I'm planning on using this one after I'm under canopy, so even if it doesn't preform well, it should be fine.

Hey! I have a alibi for that time period! I was in Montana during that time frame!.... I think. I sort of remember a lot of cows, including a dead one in the landing area, and a large amount of drinking. And yes, it probably is healthy to be a bit scared about my new box fun. (that sounds like a euphemism of some type)

Yes.. It's going to be fun. Check it out at: http://burningsky.org/ If your going to be there, come on by and check it out.

I've got several colors this time! I can't wait. Bruning man, here I come.

Wow, that's probably the best rig that I've ever seen.

Wow, I've seen a few T6's, they are very cool. I've been wanting to jump out of one of those for a while. How was it?
