Cool meeting you too ....Bitch Stick....

Thanks a million Andy! It feels good getting kudos from a season jumper!!! I just wanna make sure that I am around this sport for a long time to come! One of my goals is to take my kids on their first skydives... my daughter will be old enough in 8 years....
-
Thanks to all of you who replied for your advice. I feel a lot better now. Im a very conservative jumper (I've already hurt myself once). So I question and 2nd guess everything now. Tombuch: The article was amazing, I read some of the others too. Thanks a million!

Yes, in that magnitude I have experienced it in much less amounts under bigger canopies, last time I can remember was 5 years ago when I was in AFF.

:1:0 Great weekend at the 3rd Annual Come on I Wanna Lei U Luau in Sebastian.... Gret turn out, great times!!!

Yesterday I made a jump with winds 13 and gusting to 15. As a jumper with low experience, I asked several people (instructors and high jump number people) gave them my scenerio and asked for honest advice. None of them told me to not go on the jump, they all said I would be fine. The jump was great, pretty 4 way, but the last 800 feet or so, my canopy danced and bucked and carried on, quite frankly it made me wanna crap in my jumpsuit. There were no weather holds at all as I also consulted manifest before going on the jump. I still had a nice landing, but was rattled none the less. I would like some opinions here about this, and other than not jump what could I have done differently. I jump a Triathalon 150 and was wearing 10 lbs of weight, which had me just slightly over a 1:1 on it. with out weight I load it about .93 Thanks!

There isn't anything that my kids could ever do to cause that! I might not always like them and the choices they make, but I will ALWAYS love them and be there for them...

No way, you better start walking... I really want to meet you...
-
Yes I do.... and my theories behind it are quit whacked... so I wont share it... not in the mood to open any more worm cans....
-
I can take the heat, but this wasn't intended to be heated... I just wanted to know how others felt... damn me for being inquisitive... I don't really see how my question was spun off in so many negative ways... good grief... I wasn't the first to open a can of worms here (even unintentionally), and I know for certain I wont be the last....
-
I was again just seeking opinions... I have a reason behind my question, but that will open a whole new can of worms, if you wanna know PM me, I will be happy to share.... There have been some very good examples and exceptions per se named here, and I think what truly makes someone a skydiver is the desire in their heart to continue in and be a part of the sport. Even people who jumped for a bit and no longer do for whatever reason. Heck I even took 2 years off. But not the people with the been there done that once got that tshirt attitude. It doesnt matter what I say, or how I try to explain this thread, there will be those that want to warp and construe it in their ways, and there will be the flaming and the name calling. If there wasn't, this wouldn't be dz.com

Like I said in an earlier response, this whole thing got blown smack out of whack.... I just wanted people's opinions on 1 time tandem people, are they or are they not skydivers... IMHO, they are not. As with 99% of the other stuff on here, alot of people get their panties in a knot over nothing... I was just seeking an opinion...

Actually made 2 on Friday February 29, 2008 at Zhills, will be making more at the Team Dirty Sanchez Boogie in Sebastian this weekend.... but Im cool with the douche bag thing if you think thats where I belong....

Oh, no, no, no, don't let any of your children anywhere near Chuck Blue. They have t-shirts about what happens when you do that. hmmm havent seen that shirt yet.... she's about old enough to learn how to pack anyway (and she can't wait to learn)... so maybe that will keep her safely away from Chuck!
-
edited... Yes I am 20 minutes from Zhills, and I have sorta partied with skymonkeyone (wasn't a bunch of people there) but he did find some whisky or alcohol of some sort so me and another (unnamed) dot commer could do body shots off each other, so I guess that constitues as partying right?

Anyone know how to get in touch with Jeb Corliss?
mamajumps replied to ntrprnr's topic in The Bonfire
He is on myspace too, look him under Jeb. If I could get on myspace at work, I would give you the link... -
Yes that was very elitist... There have been some very good opinions shared here. I doubt if I will be able to do 150ish or more a year for quite awhile, so I guess I am joing the douche bag club and that is ok by me.... the reason why I can't right now is b/c I am raising 3 kids alone, working full time and going to school full time. While skydiving is an extremely important part of my life, those things are more important. This thread did get blown a bit out of whack, all I was trying to say was the people that call themselves skydivers, b/c they have made one tandem b/c its something they want to do b4 they die chap my ass.... thats all. I have almost 5 years in the sport and am still sub 100 jumps and that is way ok with me. My kids have been the main reason I dont have numbers in the hundreds or thousands, and that too is way ok with me. My world revolves around my kids and when I can afford to hire a safe baby-sitter that I trust, you can bet you will find me at a DZ somewhere

Prayers to you, his family and other friends. I truly believe there is a special place for those you died in the line of duty or from duty sustained injuries... God Bless!

There are exceptions to every rule, and you pose two very valid exceptions to one being a skydiver. My thread was mostly geared towards those that call someone who does one or two tandems, with no intentions of ever doing more a skydiver. What you shared about your spin and then recovering anough to pull yourself is awesome. My skydiving has been on hiatus many times, due to things way beyond my control and these things I do understand. But for example, my sister made one skydive with Nigel out at Zhills a few weeks ago, she had an amazing time, would like to do it again one day, but this does not (in my book) make her a skydiver. She has no desire to learn how to save her own life and is content just going along for the ride....

Wow, that stinks... I had no idea that game was older than me!

I have been in the sport 5 years as of May this year. Due to life, I dont have near as many jumps as the average person with 5 years in the sport, however I always make my way back to the air at the first possibilty. I have always wondered how others felt about this, but never got around to posting about it. And to the other posters... I have lost friends (unfortunately) to skydiving accidents and I have broke myself and continued to jump after healing....
-
Careful now... ya don't wanna get a banning... This is the new politically correct bonfire... no protesting allowed....
-
I guess I have never experienced commaraderie like this anywhere else. I have been involved in many different things growing up and some of the friendships that I have gotten from this sport are by far second to none.

He's just trying to earn brownie points to avoid any future possible bannings
