I can try again, but the man stated I was NOT listed as a beneficiary. I let him know I was NOT wanting or looking for benefits - just the records...of his time in the ARMY - training and locations and that kind of information. He again repeated "Classified" with an apology and handed me the paper to fill out and that was when I got a copy of the same thing I had except it had a close date. I forget the date I did this but it was before 2002. So that would have been approx 53 yrs and now it would hit the 62 yr mark. The Navy records I have are pretty detailed. Just could ONLY get the One certificate with the Army - Date in - Date out and Discharge reason. It will have to do along with the letter he wrote home and the one the brother sent me. The man who John described as "friend of the family" would become a career Officer and retired as such. The relationship was more than "friend of the family". This "friend of the family" was known to be tough as NAILS and trained to KILL. Duane had told me about this person, but John fillled in a more of the story. I found a story about the man's military retirement - but, little information was actually there. He was career military and retired as such and to my knowledge is still alive, but did NOT have anything to do with what remained of the Webers. Duane's children we could never trace. AS far as your statement about Military Records, but Doug and I will vouch for that. We obtained a pretty detail summary of Weber's time in the Navy even after being told there was NO information. On the ARMY file we did NOT get that lucky! No detailed report of his short stay in the Army. Question military guy: If an individual has been in the Navy and put out on a BAD Conduct Disharge), then they go to the ARMY (let's say on good terms) for a hypothetical observation. WOULD the man NOT be sent to ARMY orientation of some sort. We have pondered on this for a long time. We know he was in the Army officially but for a short duration. How did HE GET in the ARMY? WE have NEVER figured this out! We KNOW he was there and the record shows he was in the Army and I have the official papers, but we have NO details. With the Navy we know were he went for training and the where he was shipped from there and his work detail right down to his BAD time and that record ends with the parents communication for sometime afterwards - because they fought the BAD Conduct Disharge. Then Duane was in CA and got into some stuff at The Trails and then ended up in the Army. NO one seems to know how he got into the Army, but it did happen! He was there! The goverment acknowledges this - but that is all they acknowledge. The file is CLASSIFIED! I saw that on the screen myself. The guy has to go get a special code and then when he goes to the file tells me I am not a listed beneficiary. I explain I was only 3 yrs old in 1943 - and did not meet and marry my husband until 1978...and that I need some records. He just repeated "CLASSIFIED" - if you fill out these papers they will send you the records - but he was just pacifing me because ALL I got was a DUPILICATE of the other item I had, but it did have a close date as the first one did not. Nobody in the govt is keeping the lid on Cooper in my opinion. Coverup is a convenient excuse for our inability to ID Cooper. The only possible "coverup" i might agree with in this case is done by dirt, brush or water. Cooper's John Doe criminal indictment that tolls the statute of limitations was federal not state. The governor of WA couldn't pardon it, only a US President could. Another coverup story busted. 377 Well, I would not call it a Cover-up - the man is repeating what he was told. NOW if the ATTORNEY did try to get AMNESTY FOR the other suspect or accomplice in exchange for his information - ARE YOU sure that WOULD have had to go to the PRESIDENT. DUHHHHhhhhh! Where or were have you been. I DID ALL OF THAT! The name Duane used was cross checked by me and by the FBI. I have extensive phone calls and emails for the county/and state Duane was convicted - and he was sentenced as JOHN - COLLINS. Then I was referred the attorney of record - but that was a DEAD END. Too many yrs for any files to be available. WE only have records changed after the fact that match Collins to Weber. NO record of when that ocurred but the Computer files NOW read both Weber and Collins. Collins is how he was convicted. How they read prior to the FBI finding Weber and Collins to be the same person will never be known. I only have the COMMUTATION of Sentence and since that is HOW it reads w/no AKA. Weber was NOT commuted. SO when did the FBI find out Weber and Collins were the same person - per what little I have been able to find - NOT until he was presented as a Cooper suspect. The file could have been checked AFTER Duane was released and they find they set a career criminal loose BUT, he was NOT hard to find. His wife of the day said they used both names in 1968 and 1969....of course I only have tax records for Duane L. Weber and his wife starting with Weber in 1969 in N.Orleans....unreported jobs worked under the other names. Like the dishwasher and waiter job he had - there is NO W-2 nor was it filed on his taxes, but it was a fact he worked there...more than one witness to this - 2 are deceased and that leaves 1 and he was only 8 yrs old. Yep Amazon - 40,000 posts are a lot of posts on ONE subject. It has been a long hard road, but I do believe we are seeing the end of the trail now. At least that is my opinion because of what has been happening. Just like everything else I have followed it will fall apart. What I do NOT understand if it is not hoax and the talk about the Governor of WA turning down an ammesty plea to end this - who does that make Look BAD? Means the STATE of WA spent a lot of money to keep the lid on Cooper and to promote the story! If an ammesty plea could have solved the case WHY! If the man was claiming to be Cooper I understand he may have been too short...and I have no information on this. Of course the state had NO idea what the man's pleas was going to be...if it was as an accessory that is one thing, but to being Cooper might be what kicked the plea out. The plea made have been about the man's involvement - not that he was Cooper. Perhaps the family since his death has made it sound that way - but, what would be the reason for that - money, a movie, whatever. The truth is the only thing that will ever survive and I do know I tried to find this person and have tried for yrs and yrs and yrs. No one knew who I was talking about and I didn't have the damn name spelled right and no first name. I could never remember exactly what Duane said. When I was in WA in 2001 the crew and I enquired of the Tavern guys. I think you mean a riggers seal. It's a lead seal crimped onto thread and the crimping tool embosses a symbol unique to that rigger onto the lead. The purpose is to show that a rigger has packed a chute and that it hasn't been tampered with. If the rip cord pins are pulled the thread breaks. Intact thread loop with a seal means nobody has opened the rig since the seal was applied. "Pingers" (military rescue beacons) operate on 243.0 MHz and transmit a swept tone. Common ones from the Norjack era that were used in ejection systems include the URT 21. That is NOT what Carr's arrogant statements indicated. He was adamanate the FINGERPRINTS had been checked against the system - a system I argued was not completely inforce in 1968....he just did NOT get it. He refused to GET it! He kept SAYING the FBI used the McNeil file prints - prints that were supposedly cross checked with Jefferson. Yet, in 2000 the FBI agent of record was unaware of the McNeil file and claimed Weber was NEVER in McNeil. NOW do you get it? THE only thing that got thru was the photo copy of the ACTUAL commutation - he kept referring to what was currently in 2008 on the system - not what was. Paper I trust. FBI agents I do NOT trust. IF they CHECKED the finger PRINTS like CARR boasted in the thread - then they would KNOW he was WEBER? THis is what I questioned with CARR - is that the system was not in full force at that time but, he claimed it was. Some one else claimed the print system was NOT fully functional until a much later date than 1968 and I have heard in the mid to late 70's there were still gliches and some were NEVER put into the system. I just think Duane used what he told the ticket agent. Dan meant something to him and so did Cooper. Why did he choose that name in the first place. At one time I explained why he chose Cooper. Lie down in the FIRE! Duane was fixated on the Mann Gulch fire in Missoula. When we went to WA was NOT the only time Duane mentioned the Mann Gluch fire - it was something personal for him. He told me about the Indians and the prairie fires. He told me about The Gates of the Mountains and those who helped out and those who walked the dead out. Two of the deceased came out of Ca. Navon and Thompson both about Duane's age. I have only tried to piece Duane's life together with the thing he told me and the thing the family told me...no one will ever know who or what Weber was, but I do know some of the things in his life that made him what he became - a criminal and an ex-con and a shame to his family. He was a late life baby with obvious behaviour problems and was child like in his ways even after going to prison. His military record was an embarassment to the family and there was NO work for a boy who failed his country - not even picking apples. It was NOT until the government kicked him out of the Army that he turned to a life of crime. Obviously he did't always get caught he was just not clever enough to say out of jail. Well, if you are on your own and can't get work - he was consider the lowest of lowest and the least employable. He would run errands for the blacks to earn food - or past himself off as indian to get a jobs. He wasn't very good at anything he did. He spent most of his adult life in Prison until 1968 - that is a huge chunk out of a young man's life. He caused his parents great shame and to work at something besides manual labor he had to commit fraud and hide his past. He just kept crawling in deeper and deeper and then when his kidney problem came to surface he thought he would never have a normal life and a good job. He went into deep depression and he became so angry he chased away anyone who tried to help. He had NO escape. He had nothing and no one....and no choices unless he wanted to live on the streets and die that way. I think he made the only choice he thought was feasible. I truely having known Weber for 18 yrs believe he did NOT believe he would survive.... If indeed there was other participants why would they and how could they keep a secret all of these yrs. I heard the story about one such man who died many yrs ago. Now I find this man tried to get amnesty after I went public about Duane....after my 2001 trip to WA. If it was true that the yr was after I went public about Duane - WHY didn't the FBI look at this? Why did the governor NOT grant the man amnesty? Was he only going to admit knowing who Cooper was or was he going to admit to the crime? The Governor obviously didn't see any merit to granting the amnesty for whatever reason or did the FBI actually even attempt to get the amnesty? That is the REAL question. How does ONE get amnesty without giving your real name and how in the hell is this done. First time I ever had to question a law that sounds strange. Amnesty would only be granted if someone had knowledge of a crime - not if they were confessing to it or am I wrong? One of you lawyers out there tell me what the law is - I am not a lawyer. Explain something is simple non jumper language. The emergency chute you are referring to - that WAS not one of the back packs but a front pack. Bear with a dumb woman for a moment with this. This is important. Before you guys talked in a language I could NOT follow so WHY I did NOT enter into conversations about chutes. NOW I am asking a specific question. 2 chutes and 2 front packs - which ones were missing? Explain in simple words - such as military chute and Military front pac. I NEED to know which ones were left on the plane and which ones were missing. There has been 2 or 3 stories. One chute left on plane and 3 chutes left on plane - what was actually left on the plane and in basic laymans terms describe the 4 items (be sure to say Front pac for the emergency and back pac for the 2 regular chutes. I know this sounds stupid but NOT for a NON jumper and someone who knows NOTHING about chutes. Would it not have also required special equipment to pack? I know stupid question...meaning it could not have quickly been unpacked and then repacked for Cooper with a homing device placed by the FBI. I know that is a stupid question but one I as a layman have always wanted to ask. Had the guy I was dating had not suggested to me D.B. Cooper I would NOT be talking to this thread and I would never have contacted the FBI. The papers in my part of the country do NOT carry Cooper stories - small buried article and I do NOT know how many of those could or did say Dan Cooper and perhaps I would never have read the article. Skyjacking nor Skyjumping - I knew nothing about and never had a reason to look it up or to intensely read an article on it. Remember something briefly in the papers in 1971 when it happen. The war was on Page 1 and 2. The Cooper article was on page 3. Yea I have a good memory! Cooper article may have been in the papers on subsequent anniversaries - but, would I have read them with any purpose or intent - NOT likely! Doubt I did any more than read the headliner. In retrospect I do remember the article in 1980 - only because of our trip to WA in 1979, but I did NOT get to read that main front page article. We only got the Sunday paper - because of our work we where NOT home most wkdays. The weather was severe in 1980 and we did NOT go on the road to Wym and hence why I wanted to see that TV program and Duane knew it was going to be on because I told him I wanted to see that program when they advertised it. He arranges for us to GO out in the MIDDLE of the WK with another couple I had never met on that specific night....the weather was bad. He had to keep me away from the TV and he was successful. Had I not have wanted to see the program and HAD I not APOLOGIZE to the other woman whose name I do not remember for being bad company - I might never have remember specifically when the program was going to be on. They ran a dry cleaners in Ft. Collins and she also stated that she wanted to see that program. Outside of our wedding night this was the ONLY time Duane had invited and made arrangements for us to meet with another couple to go out. The next time we go out with someone is in Mobile, Al. When we went to Atlanta - we always met up with his good friend there, but usually at their home, we didn't go out except to their wedding or company functions. In VA we never went out with another couple nor did we ever do so in FL. What I have stated above is our entire connection to other couples in 18 yrs. There were parties, but I am talking couples with couples. Friends getting together. We just did NOT do that - we moved around a lot and we made few friends other than the people we worked for. I was NOT a party girl - and by 1982 when he got caught doing a NO NO - he realized this girl was different from anything he had ever known...maybe why he got his act together! Nahh - he just changed - he just realized he could have a life as long as no one ever found out who he was. I expect what Duane said would have slid into the back of my mind and it would have been forgotten forever...had I not have mentioned what he said to Lee. When I met my last husband in 2000 I did not mention what I was involved in nor did I talk about Cooper. We had been dating for almost a yr and when I had to go to WA. I had to tell him what I was involved in - I thought he would walk away and never look back, but he ask me to be his forever in 2001 and we married in 2002. What is a riggers field or shield? Is this something on the rig or a type of rig? I DON"T recall anything like this being mentioned by the FBI as to why Cooper selected the chute he did. What is this? There has been NO mention to my knowledge of this. Not sure what the man was talking about, but it was a reason why Cooper chose the chute he did. DID the FBI conceal evidence? Why? Was the FBI playing games or be obstinate or their way of flushing Cooper? If I knew what the heck I was talking about I wouldn't be here tonight. All of this resulted in a conversation about Duane and Spokane. The conversation shifted from my 1945 to 1949 to his 1962 - 1964. I was surprised to say the least! This man is certainly convincing and he did go to the FBI yrs ago, but then they never questioned him or asked about this again. The reason behind Cooper's choice of chute became Nothing! He had tried yrs ago to tell me his story, but I did NOT know enough to understand what he was saying. He took this opportunity to steer me back where I should be and he is getting on in age, THE FBI needs to hear what this man has to say! Well, as you have said I have answered this before and I will try to recall the story as I remember it. ONE LAST TIME! Duane had been in the hospital a few days and I went home. He told me to keep the briefcase with me at all times. He was emphatic about that. That morning when I got to the hospital - the Hospital adminstrator, the Dr. and his nurse were in the room. I asked what was going on. Duane asked me where his brief case was and I replied right "in my hand" - you told me to keep it with me. I put the briefcase on his lap in the bed. Duane removed files and handed them to the Doctor and asked the Dr. if he understood what they were. He noted to the DR. to look at the dates. Dated back to time he had first gone on the machine in 1990. Duane made a point to have them take NOTE he had taken NO medication for 2 days and he did NOT want the little "guy" to come to his room asking him how many finger he was holding up and what his birthday was and what day it was. The little guy was a psycologist to see if he was mentally sound because Duane was refusing dialysis and the hospital wanted him to continue. After they left (the room was L shaped and he could not see the door) if there was anyone there. I assured him no one was there and thought he wanted a smoke and he waved his hands NO. "I've got something to tell you". "I'm Dannn Coooper". My reply was that I knew he had used the name John Collins and was in jail for 16 months. He told me about jumping out of a plane and I just poo pooed him saying "You jump out of a plane" Give me a break". He had also told me a few days early when I was dressing him to take him to the hospital when I asked him if he was ever going to tell me how he hurt his knee - his answer then was "jumping out of plane" and I dismissed that as his just kidding me or when he was in the service. Had no time to think about it - I knew I was taking him to the hospital for the last time. IN the hospital days later he tried to tell me what he did and who Cooper was, but I had just been told my husband would decease in about 5 days...my mind would not allow me to listen to this. It all just went over my head. He was attempting to tell me about the skyjacking, but I just would not listen - I was still digesting that he would be gone in 5 days (he would live for 11 days). In desperation he shouted out very very loudly "Oh Fuck, Let it die with me". The nurses came running in thinking he was upset about his decision and started giving him morphine. Days later he told me we had to talk and was very alert. As I was adjusting his pillow I found a tissue with lots of pills in it. He re-interated we needed to talk and he needed to be clear of mind. I don't remember what he said then. I chastized him for not taking his medication and told the nurse he was not taking them. (I was like a mother hovering over her child) and I did realize they were trying to help him along rather than ease any pain he may have been suffering. He was in no pain he told me. After that they made him stick out his tongue when they gave him the pills. He kept telling asking me about the van and said he had something hidden in it. I told him I knew he had things hidden. I don't remember if he told me where - because I was NOT facing the fact that he would actually die - I don't know what I was thinking. No one wants to face things - I was always one to turn a deaf ear as I did to his past after I found out he had been in prison when he went on dialysis in 1990. During the next 3 days he kept insisting we go for a ride. There were torrential rains and I had him dressed for his ride and the nurse said it was OK, but there was NO way to get him to the car. The next night again I tried but the winds and the rains would not let up. Back in the room the rain pelted against the windows and the morphine was taking its toll he said " Come on Jo Lets get this fucking Show on the Road - come on Jo lets get on down the road - Lets get the fucking show on the road." They were words similar to that, but I no longer remember the exact wording. The next night he was totally out of it - not eating or drinking and I was told not to force feed him. He managed to get out of the POSEY belt they had restrained him with and was sitting up in the middle of the bed with his penis and testicals in his hands like a giant budda. Again those word - "Lets Get this shown on down the road" I thought he was talking about dieing. The nurses gave him more morphine to quiet him and told me to go home and get some rest - I had been with him 24/7 for several days except to go home and bathe and change clothes. That night I let them talk me into going home and sleeping. When I got there the next morning they told me he was going. He acknowledged I was there, but in a stupor. I was writing a letter when he made this weird statement "Take the baby Down Stairs, Bring the baby back up - I can't go till the baby get here". Since my daughter was pregnant - I thought this what he was referring to. That was his last words before he said "I Love You" and then the death gurgle. Now I am crying. I have told the story before and it may have changed a little over the yrs. It will soon be 18 yrs in March...I am now in my mid 70's and time takes it toll on ones memory as to the details. I am sure there were details I have left out - but one can only remember so much. I told my daughter about some of this at that time... and my sister. None of us ever gave it a thought. None of us knew who Dan Cooper was - probably just another alias he had used - we knew about the Collins thing. II had started to date several months later and was dating a man whose feelings I did NOT want to hurt - he came from a nice local family and well thought of but I knew I would never have feeling for this man. I started to talk about Duane to let him know I was NOT ready for a serious relationship. Instead of being put off when I told him the story above - he looked at me and asked me if I had ever thought my husband had been D.B. Cooper. Well, he had to refresh my mind about who Cooper was, but I was so involved in my studies for my real estate exam - I had pushed that out of my mind. Since I do NOT cram for exams I called Lee and asked him what was the name of the man he told me to look up. I called from the library because I was looking for a good book to take to Panama with me. He had to tell me again the name D. B. Cooper. Thank Heavens I did not read that book the night before the exam. I had gone down early the day before to take a cram course and the course touched on somethings my class had not, so I decided to study. The rest is history. I aced the test and started reading the book after I got back home and on page 13 or thereabouts - I was on the phone to the FBI and continued to call them the more I read. UNTIL that NIGHT I had NOT known that Cooper gave his name as Dan Cooper nor had I read anything about the incident. Remember the article in 1980 when the money was found. Duane left the house with the paper and I never got to read the article. There was a news flash on TV about UnSolved Crime and a special that was going to be on TV. Duane then arranged for us to go out with another couple in the middle of the WK. I remember this because I apologized to the woman who I had neve met until that night for being bad company, because I had wanted to see that special. Duane COULD NOT ALLOW ME TO SEE THAT SPECIAL IN 1980 - HE KNEW I WOULD PUT WHAT HE SAID IN WA AND THE PLACES HE TOOK ME TO IN WA JUST A FEW MONTHS EARLIER...that I might put it together! He left in March for Mobile AL leaving me in CO for my daughters birthday and graduation. When he came home for her graduation he quizzed her about a football coach at her school --- who had a name used by one of the articles. I did NOT know at the time anything about why he was curious about the name. FIND out the name of the FOOTBALL coach during the class of 1980 for Fort Collins CO. I do not remember the names now....but was one associated with one of the Stewardesses. Does not mean it was the husband of either nor related but Duane had never showed any interest in Donna's teacher or school in the past. This was a 1st and last. I just made a post and it was some how deleted! I need to know ASAP what that is and why did Cooper chose to take one chute over the other chute? DON"T ask why! Just answer my question. What is that damn thing and has this ever been discuss at any time in this thread or in Cooper history. How and why did Cooper chose the chute he did. What is the man talking about? The things I have been told today - really changes a lot of things. It just MIGHT mean this has been some kind of cover-up for yrs and yrs - but, why? Or was the FBI just so obstinate they could not see what was put right in front of them yrs and yrs ago. All of this has stemmed from my efforts to put Duane in Spokana from 1945 to 1949 and because of my enquires. What happened is the conversation got turned around to 1962 - 1964. I didn't turn the conversation, but the man I was speaking to did. I had spoke to the man before, but not in recent yrs. When he unloaded all of this today - I felt perhaps I had heard it before, but it made NO SENSE to me and was just Cooper Trivia and stories. Today it became history. He had tried to tell me the story before - but, being a woman and not a jumper it just went over my head. Now, I get it and since the man is getting pretty old - he wanted to be sure I got it. I still do not understand it and due to the background sounds I had to keep asking names and places....so what I got was sound alikes. I made notes the best I could and often asked him to repeat things - but still could NOT them. Since I do not live in the area and someone might say what I understand to be Noma Co is not Noma County - because of the Indian names. Waconna County, but sure that is just how it sounds and Not how it is spelled. Little Ben, Frank and Shoals. I know where the old Shoals strip was but were was the other strip I was told about by the man and also by Weber. Some of these things are NO longer there. All of this came out of my trying to put Duane in Spokane and along that high road. Then I find OTHER Cooper history also came out of that same area. I can't remember conversations the way I used to. All of this because I was trying to find someone to research OLD files in the Spokane area all the way to Coure D alene....I think the party then realized I knew more than I thought I did....and started to fill in the blank spots. NO it is NOT about Weber! Just something I was told and matched what Duane told me and filled in the details. The FBI had little contact with this man and with me and was sworn to secrecy back in the 70's. He is very real and the FBI spoke with him many many yrs ago, but everything he ever told them was ignored. He was a jumper. We forgot about KC a long time ago - but, that was the best post from you in a LONG time. Recieve a PM from someone reminding me of a posting made on a long forgotten site. A post made by someone who knew Duane. Part of the story was accurate except for the new car part and the persons theory about where Weber could have hiddend the money. I did investgate the posting long ago and it was my feeling the post was NOT made by a kid who did yard. Again I felt the same thing now as I did in 2006 when I learned of the posting. The individual who sent me a pm on this has been reading the thread - and thought I might be interested in it or maybe that I had never seen it. Thank YOU! Note the commutation is for John Collins and Weber was a 5 plus time felon. They do NOT provide Commutations for someone who has already spent time in other prisons. The Commutation was supposed to be for Duane L. Weber. He was upset about that! The exwife discussed this with me....but, she declined to say anymore that he was angry as hell about it.. I went into all of this before and there is NO need to repeat it all for Robtert99. It was supposed to mean a new life for them....the commutation was supposed to read Duane L. Weber. So the FBI wants a GRUDE - Duane did have a grudge about that. Whatever he did in Jefferson was never revealed. The wife said she would go to see him and be told he was in solitary. That happened several times - if a guy is in solitare several times in 16 months - it is doubtful he would be granted a Commutation. WHERE was he really. Remember that the FBI would NOT provide me with anything so I could prove I was the wife of Duane and his AKA - so I was refused access to Jefferson papers. Only after the required time for the files to be destroyed did Carr stated I could find them online...by then the inside file had been deleted. No info available. As for Jefferson you are asking me a question I do not know nor have I any reason to know - a prison is a prison is a prison and is a prison. Jo, You need to ask 377 about State and Federal Prisons. And who would sign a commutation in each case. You might learn something. Robert99 THAT IS ALL IN THE THREAD AND IT WAS SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE AT THAT TIME. You do YOUR own research. I believe the Commutation exists on the thread a document. We DID ALL OF THIS AND IT IS VALID. Go the prison files yourself. It is there also. I do NOT feel like dealing with the LIKES of you.
