  1. Just curious, have they sent you a loaner canopy?
  2. I am guessing it has been around a year and a half since they started doing the mods. If you have a pre 4.0 version they will do the 4.0 steering line mod. The 4.0 model canopys manufactured also have a modification to the nose of the canopy in addition to the steering lines discussed here. I really cannot comment on the effect of the nose mod. that are on the current canopys.
  3. When I had my Tri 160 I had it done. I really only noticed an improvement in the flare but it was worth the modification. They take the two outboard steering line cascades and remove them. Then they add a cascade 1/2 cell in from the standard attachment point. Pretty much like moving all the steering line attachments 1/2 cell inboard.
  4. I use WinMx also and like it. You can search open-nap servers and/or the WinMx network.
  5. I gotta agree, that feeling at exit time and when you step off no turning back. And when I'm pulling that pilot chute out..... I would have to give freefall and the canopy ride equal shares though.
  6. Ya I am bored....and in case you are interested see attached...sorry about quality
  7. A Garrett would be like http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~mech372/turbo/engine3.html to get a picture of the difference in construction.
  8. I had an idea, but 8000Lbs of thrust might be a bit much
  9. The more blades a prop has the smoother it will run in terms of vibration so I guess it would help reduce noise output now that I think of it. The more blades a prop has, the higher the power setting you can use and keep the prop efficient. Pretty sure I got that right?
  10. Depends where you are listening to the noise at. From inside the cabin differences may be due to the amount insulation in the fuselage and such. Skyvans use Garrett turbines and these are well known for their noise output. Skydive AZ Skyvan is pretty darn loud even compared to a CASA, which also uses Garrett turbines. Heh, I think they convert Jet-A into noise. I think props can figure a little into noise output but I am not really sure. I have heard two different CASA's ran up, each with a different set of props, and the only thing I really noticed was a slight difference in the prop noise iteslf and not so much the engines. I'm sure Chris will correct me if I am off base here.
  11. There is a similar system Here which is the same type of setup as Phreezone's except I didn't have room for my "handle" closer like his cause my audible pocket was in the way listed Here. It works pretty darn good.
  12. Man, I STILL don't have mine yet!, or my Skydiving mag.
  13. I am getting ready to step up to a wireless network at home and know there are some networking types here so here is my delimma. It just occured to me that I have a 2.4Ghz cordless phone and the 802.11b and newer Wireless-G operate on this spectrum. I really hate to drop a few hundred on a network only to have interference problems. Just wondering what my options might be? Getting a 802.11a system seems to be stepping backwards so I am not sure. Of course I could get a new cordless phone I guess.
  14. I hate to say it, but I was laughing out loud here in my classroom while watching that. Just your yelling and stuff when you saw it made me watch it 3x. LOL Thanks for sharing, Kevin and I can't wait to see the rest of the vids. (read: boobies) Ya, I watched it twice just cause of of the yelling.
  15. I tried, but by computer was not taking it too well and started screwing up....
  16. An old electrician's trick: Keep one hand in your pocket at all times. Some of the capacitors in a TV can carry a lethal charge for quite a long time. The last thing you want is to create a path up one arm, through the heart, and out the other arm. Really though, modern TVs say "no user serviceable parts" on them, and they mean it. Heh, I found this out the hard way. Took apart a disposable camera with a flash. Batteries were removed.....woweee, who would have thought a little camera could fly 8 feet across the room! Later inspection revealed a 350volt cap. lol
  17. I have "FREFLY", someone already has it spelled correctly in the state. There are several other plates at the DZ. When I was checking online for some skydiver realted plates there were alot already reserved and it a little suprising. I used to wonder why anyone would spend the extra money to get vanity plates
  18. Hey everyone, go check out the WFFC message board. There is a cool shot of Rod in the 412 taken form the C-130 posted in there. http://www.freefall.com/index.htm
  19. Heh, no doubt. You can check out one on http://www.skydivingmovies.com under the public/misc directory with a filename GoodbyePC1
  20. I was getting ready to ask if these were frame grabs or stills since they looked alot like stills. On my PC-101 there is a difference in FOV between the two. (Stills will be a little wider).
  21. I could not be more happy with Cookie's box, it is flush all around. My PC-101 would not fit in this box if the camera was any larger (and it is small) which is good IMHO since I do not have any added bulk to the side of my helmet. I am not sure how the PC-9 and 5 compare in size to the 101 and I have not see Boneheads PC 5 and 9 box up close. I vote Cookie but this is a biased since I have not had experience with the other models of boxes and cameras. Before I forget, if Boneheads boxes do not have any way to secure the camera with a thumbscrew in the bottom I would rule them out period...A jumper at our DZ lost his camera at WFFC and it likely would not have happened if it was secured by a screw, I think it was not possible to use one on his box
  22. I wonder if those lenses would able to see inside edge of box when video a jump? Like vignette but it come from the box. The lense would come exactly flush with the front edge of the opening. The .45 (Way Cool)should not be a problem, although a .3 might barely catch the edge of my helmet in the field of view, but I can't be too sure. If this was the case I would just move the box forward a bit. I do not have any intentions of using a .3 for quite a while if ever?? so I am not gonna worry about it right now.
  23. I have one of Cookies boxes for the PC-101 and it is very nice. Fits like a glove. Padding with mine is not really necessary since it has a thumbscrew at the bottom that holds the camera off any of the box surfaces, although I did add a couple strips of this 3/32"thick 1/8" wide sticky back foam just to offer some protection when taking the camera in and out of the box. With my box if I was to use one of the Diamond .3 lenses or one of Way Cool red or blue lenses it would be fully contained within the box. Oh, I paid $170.00 USD total to the states with shipping taking about 6 days.
