I feel for the guy, but as others here have already stated...he signed a contract. A couple years ago I was discussing this very thing with a WWII vet. He had dropped out of school to go fight and served on bomber crews. I asked him once if he intended to finish his education when the war was over. He just kinda chuckled and said, "Hell, we never figured we'd be coming back."

Experience that changed my life - 1989, walked away from a racing accident that should have, and many thought, killed me. Turning point - Oct. 1999 when I quit smoking after 22 years, and April 2003 when I went back to school to get that degree I always wanted. Projected graduation Spring '09!

People who take interest in airplanes give me your opinion!
willard replied to Mostly_Harmless's topic in The Bonfire
What he said. Since the aircraft operates in one medium, air, and on another, the ground, it must overcome the drag imposed by both. The air isn't doing anything out of the ordinary in this scenario, so the prop easily does it's job as always with just a small bit of additional rolling friction to overcome from the wheels which must now roll at twice their normal speed. 90 mph headwind? The plane sure will take off vertically, as long as it is producing enough thrust to fly at 90 mph. Any less and it will fly backwards, any more and it will fly forward. Ever watch an AN-2 land in a 20 knot headwind? The bugger comes down almost vertical. Just remember, the aircraft doesn't care what the ground is doing, only what the air around it is doing. -
You pretty much hit the nail right on the head. For many centuries only the leaders of the church were allowed access to the Bible. Unless you were one of the few you had no choice but to believe what they told you was written in the Bible and follow their laws. Christianity was not a very nice religion in those days, putting to death any who questioned the leadership. For much of their rule the common man was totally illiterate, even to the point that most had no idea what century they were living in, let alone what year. So, yes, the church was "deliberately ambiguous so they can win arguments by changing the definition of stuff." It was a power that the church had no qualms in taking full advantage of. "So, what was the definition of murder back in the day?" What we consider to be "murder" today is pretty much the same as what it was back then. The actual word used to convey the meaning may have changed, but the context is the same.

None at all

Actually, the proper translation is "murder" and not "kill". Thou shall not commit murder. The Bible is filled with cases of God tossing out appeals and giving the go-ahead for capital punishment. God himself carried out mass executions by destroying entire cities and civilizations. Of course, he didn't hang 'em all (rope was a valuable commodity back then)....he used fires and floods. No, I'm not a Bible thumper, just some stuff I remember from Sunday school. I also feel the death penalty should only be used in extreme cases, and this is one of those cases. I'm quite happy with the idea letting God bump off Saddam Hussein rather than having a human do it. Let's wait for a spontaneous fire or flood to get him. In all fairness to the victims of Saddam's regime he should be punished in accordance with Islamic law, the predominant religion in that region and to which Saddam subscribes. It matters not what my beliefs are, only the beliefs of the society upon which he was found guilty of these atrocities, a society he is a member of and is to be held accountable to for his actions. If it were up to me he would be hanged today. But it's not my call. (Kallend! I checked out you web site...I used to have an R/C Cub just like that, only mine had a .65 for power. I did love flying that thing, especially off water.)

Just watched the movie and was wondering if anyone else found it to be as big a let down as I did? Wasn't bad, I just expected better from the Howard/Hanks combo.

Man, that sucks! You have my total sympathy. My experience was all 4, lots of swelling, and soup for 3-4 days. Keep up the pain killers, another day or so and you should be fine. This is one of those things that is gonna hurt no matter what but, rest assured, it will get better soon. Call your dentist concerning the dry sockets...he may want to see them.

Kinda like a Pitts Special with an engine-out. Official procedure (would I lie?) "To establish best glide angle throw a brick out the cabin. Then follow it."

Ex-cop plans 'Never Get Busted Again' video

If this guy can make a few, or a lot, of bucks with a video demonstrating techniques for hiding your stash then more power to him! -
Why is there something rather than nothing?
willard replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Because there is no such thing as nothing. Look at it this way. A woman is upset. Her man asks, "What's wrong, Baby?". She says, "Nothing". Now, we all know that "Nothing" actually means "A whole lot of SHIT"! And it's gonna hit the fan! -
I took a lesson from Mark Twain... "a lady at the hotel told me to drink a quart of whiskey, and a friend up-town recommended precisely the same course. Each advised me to take a quart; that made half a gallon. I did it, and still live."

Sorry to say this will be my last post on this thread as it is pointless to try to convince you of how absurd your "conspiracy" sounds. However, FYI, there is a huge difference between a 225 mph,22,000 B-25 carrying less than 1000 gals. of avgas and a modern commercial airliner fully loaded with jet-A. Ok, for the sake of argument, we'll say 1/2 fuel...at over 500 mph! Let's see...only three steel skyscrapers ever collapsed due to fire. Hmmm...two took direct hits by massive fuel laden aircraft, and the other was right next to them, burning, and being hit with large chunks of debris from the other two. Damn! Must be the coincidence of the century! Think and believe what you want, just don't try to design a building. Or fly a plane. Or teach common sense.

Um conspiracy theorists reject the principal of Occam's razor. They use what I call "Occam's Minoxidil." In other words: To explain a phenomenon, use the MAXIMUM amount of entities possible. That just made my day!

Most of us learned as children that when you take something that is burning and bury it under dirt, debris, etc. that restricts but doesn't stop the supply of oxygen it will continue to burn for a very, very long time. When my neighbors barn burned down, with over 5000 bales of hay and straw inside, it was almost two weeks before they could get close enough to the debris pile with a loader so they could spread it out and let it finish burning. It would be a major surprise if satellite photos DIDN'T show hot spots. Nobody is suggesting that thermite was formed during the fire and caused the steel to melt, only that it was formed. Hell, the components needed to form thermite are found virtually everywhere. Read the entire post. You are the only one here who ever suggested that ANY steel melted. All others are telling you it did not melt and did not need to melt. #7 fell in it's own footprint? BFD. Most building that collapse DO fall in their own footprint unless a force inside causes the collapse to go outward. Even most bombed out buildings during WWII fell in on their own footprint. But don't give up hope! You are convincing us all of one thing....that you want so badly to believe that there is a giant coverup concerning 9/11 that you are willing to accept as fact anything put on the web by anyone. People here have offered air-tight explanations, including mathematical data based on sound principles, yet you choose not to accept it but instead continue to scoff and say it's just BS cause somebody you don't even know managed to convince you otherwise with a pretty good smoke-n-mirrors routine. But, on the other hand, it does make perfect sense that the hundreds of people it would take to pull this off would be willing to sacrifice their own friends and family in NY and DC, along with hundreds more innocent lives, would keep it all secret, just so the U.S. government would have an excuse to go to war. When was the last time the U.S. government needed an excuse to go to war??? If they want to bomb the shit out of something they just go ahead and do it. Last, but not least, "Ockham's razor".

I'll take The Donald in two rounds. His advantages are reach and height, which The Bitch's treachery, B.O., and bad breath just can't overcome. But The Donald best take care if this does somehow go into the later rounds. He isn't in the best of shape, which could cause problems, and if his hair spray gives up he will be blinded by that otherworldly mess on top of his head falling down in front of his eyes.

Good job! I'm sure the results will be even better than you expect! I know just how you feel. After my finals slept like a baby, minus the crying and bed-wetting. Those came before and during finals. Really embarrassing for someone my age.

I've been working on a degree in engineering for a couple years now but I think I have found an easier way then to spend countless hours listening to lectures, hanging around labs, crunching numbers, and generally spending time with people who know this shit inside and out. I'll just move to Monteal and Skinny can teach me all I'll ever need to know!
