  1. I think the important question here is why does it matter so much to us? The fact that the chicken was able to make an intelligent decision based on factors unknown to us should be sufficient to cause us to respect the chickens privacy in the matter.

    E.A.Poe

Another thread got me thinking about something.... Has anyone read Poe's "Tell Tale Heart" while keeping in mind the narrator may be a woman? Poe was always very thorough with details such as gender, age, race, social status, etc. of his characters, so it was obviously intentional that Poe never let on exactly who the narrator was to the old man. I am convinced that any man who reads that story with the idea the narrator is the old mans SO will never get married!
  3. Before going off your rocker over this maybe you should do some research on just what depleted uranium is and how it compares to natural urnanium. Besides, this is old news. The military isn't the only place it's used, the civilian sector has been using it for years as well for a multitude of purposes. Hell, you have most likely been exposed to it more than any Iraqi civilian.

    GM rubbish

Damn. You figure it would be good for at least 310,000. Congrats on a good service life. Now park it in a place of respect (she deserves it) and go buy a new one.
  8. If you want a level playing field then you go with wood bats. Modification..even for cheating purposes...is easy and cheap. Aluminum bats are more expensive, often costing several hundred dollars, and the differences are very real between a $50 bat and a $300 bat even for an average Little League player. If you want it modified prepare to spend another chunk of change unless you have the skills and the equipment to do it yourself (most don't). The differences aren't just in power but in reaction time and accuracy. My opinion, for all the good it will do, is that if the city is worried about injuries and lawsuits then a switch to wood is best. If they are trying to cut costs then another option is league bats (aluminum) that are brought to the game by the umpires and are used by both teams...no privately owned bats would be allowed to be used in games.
  9. Democrats: The party of talk and hot air. Republicans: The party of action, even if it is messed up.
  10. I used to name 'em. Then I completely destroyed a race car that was worth two years wages and realized they are just assemblies of parts, nothing more. Sometimes I call my focus "Bitch" when it pisses me off.
  11. Kinda what I thought. It should be simple enough to test the idea. A test fixture to swing the bat at a ball on a tee. I know MLB doesn't allow metal bats for safety reasons, a stance that is confusing considering the number of broken wood bats that fly into the stands. However, I know there are a few pitchers who probably would have been killed outright if the ball that hit them in the head had been going a few mph faster.
  12. I'm on quarters here so I've still got another month. But then only two more years 'til I get my BS! 4 down, 2 to go!
  13. What was their reasoning? Cost? Could be used as a weapon? Ball comes off the bat much faster than off a wood bat? (Safety related?) First i heard of it so I'm not familiar with the story.

  15. What UFC/MMA fights I've watched have shown me one thing; they are great all-around fighters but their boxing skills , compared to a pro, suck. A boxer may be one dimensional against a UFC fighter but the UFC fighter is also, for all intents and purposes, one dimensional against a boxer. He doesn't have a chance standing toe-to-toe, so his only chnace to win is to take the match to the matt. To do that he has to get in close, something pro boxers are very good at preventing. A champion boxer can use those attempts to his advantage and end the fight real quick. Even if the fight goes to the matt it is no sure thing the boxer will lose. They are some of the worlds best conditioned athletes and, as a group, are in far better shape than the UFC/MMA crowd.
  16. I take it you had the surgery? Yep, coughing hurts for a while. Keep a pillow handy and hug it into your gut like no tomorrow when you have to cough. It helps.
  17. Why show stats for current crime rates in incidents per population when the claim was for trends that developed after the laws were enacted? Current stats have nothing to do with those trends.
  18. Only one mile?? Oh, for cryin' out loud, walk! When I was a young beer guzzler I used to have to walk 5 miles to get mine. Uphill both ways through six feet of snow and no shoes.
  19. My niece is on scholarship to play Div.1 softball. At the end of April she was ranked 2nd in the nation in stolen bases at .93 per game and also in the rankings among toughest to strike out, only 6 strike outs in 97 at bats. Unfortunately her season came to an abrupt end when she took a hard shot to the head while base running and sustained a concussion. When her headache and dizziness didn't go away an MRI showed a small bruise on her brain. Though not life threatening it did put a halt to all activities including classes at school. That was over two weeks ago and she still has headaches and occasional loss of balance. They are doing another MRI and other tests this week so any and all vibes/prayers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  20. No bears, that's what's pussy. A friend-of-a-friend has succesfully pinned a large wrestling bear on several occasions. His trick? None, really. His grandfather owns the bear so he grew up watching and learning from hundreds of peoples mistakes. Kinda like any successful fighter.
  21. Dang it...I'm trying to get you pissed off!
  22. So, in other words, if you agree with him he is an all-seeing prophet, but if you don't he is a right-wing radical who blindly follows W. And some people get to call him both depending on what subject he is talking about.
