  1. The US repair shop for for Cypres (SSK?) had one at the Winter Expo at Skydive Chicago. It took me a second to realize that I had to tilt my head up after deploying to see that I had line twists. Pretty fun. -mob
  2. Lucky kangaroo - if I reach for a snack at that point I'm in trouble. ;)
  3. Try living on the 47th floor with a balcony . . . .
  4. Anyone here jump at the dropzone in Baldwin, WI? I'm driving to Minneapolis on Friday and if they are open would love to stop in for a quick jump. Let me know. Thanks, -mob
  5. I just got my new harness / container. Articulated harnesses are MUCH more comfortable - especially in the plane. -mob
  6. Zennie - Can you demo a Safire? Some dropzones rent them as student gear. I learned on a Safire and I recently bought one as my first canopy loaded at about 1.3:1. The trickiest part about Safires is making sure you flare enough on the landing. Once you "get it" it isn't tough at all but the other canopies I've jumped (Stilleto, Spectre, Triathalon) have all been easier to land because you didn't have to flare 100%. my two cents, -mob

    Scotchgard

In the old forums there was a discussion about Scotchgard and which type to use (red or green can perhaps?). Does anyone have any info. on this? I have a new container I'd like to treat before I get it too muddy. Thanks, -mob
  8. After waiting since the end of November all of my gear has arrived and is ready to jump! No more rentals = more jumps for less $$$! It seems so unfair the weather may not be helpful this weekend in Chicago. On a related note (the next chance to jump if I don't this weekend) - I'm driving to Minneapolis from Chicago next weekend. Does anyone know if Skydive Twin Cities is open yet? Their website is down.
  9. Adam, I was thrilled when my girlfriend started AFP. Now if it would only warm up she would finish and we could jump together . . . . -mob
  10. Hmmmm . . . Can a plane have a gigantic tailgate door and climb as fast as a King Air? I like getting to altitude fast!
  11. "Ummmm, a fondness for beer & tequila, a nearly-empty bank account, and an over-active sex drive??" I agree with SpeedRacer!
  12. Good Stuff will help you go more crazy when the weather won't let you jump. Pack Like a Pro is so-so. I've watched it several times in the past week because I just got my own equipment and will need to back this week but find the PD owner's manual with rough sketches to be more helpful. Video doesn't quite capture the joys / challenges of packing. two cents, -mob
  13. same here . . . . on top of that my new rig arrived today truly jonesing, -mob
  14. Regardless of political thought (I'll spare you mine) George W is not reversing the US position. If I remember my poli. sci. minor days correctly the US Senate has to ratify any treaty signed by a president. President Clinton signed it and it is now in the hands of the Senate. All Bush has said is that he considers it a dead issue because there is no way in hell that the Senate would pass i. Regardless what you think of Bush or the treaty the Senate has to ratify all treaties . . . Call your Senator.

    Talon

Ahhhh - it's easy to see who jumps at SDC and who learned at more traditional dropzones. I'm not going to say who's wrong or right. I agree with the throught process that students should learn on ZP elliptical / slightly elliptical canopies because that's where the sport is today. Student's should not learn on 1980s or even 90s technology. I've got 45 jumps (most at SDC) and have jumped Safires, Triathalons, Spectres, and Stilletos. I bought a Safire because it was available. I'd loved to have found a used Sitlleto but I'm a big guy at jump a 190 (1:1.3ish wing loading) because I like their landings. That being said I'll jump the Safire for a season, get some packing experience, and buy a new canopy. Anyways I had to post with all the other SDC jumpers saying hi. I'll see you this weekend if the weathers good if not I'll be out in two weekends. blues, -mb
  16. >>.ps: my new wings container solves all my problems. :) >>Mine too ;))) maybe it will solve mine if it ever comes . . . . . ordered in November, still waiting . . . each week I'm told next week
  17. Articulated harnesses are a lot more comfortable. They may let you move around more in freefall (I'm not good enough to notice yet) but more importantly you are more comfotable in the plane and under canopy. If you are buying new, it is well worth the $$$. my two cents, -mb
  18. Vlad I had the same problem renting geat at Lodi. I had a premature deployment at around 3500'. Luckilly I had just rolled onto my stomach to wave off when it deployed. Velcro and risers are not a good combination. Matt "I have a bad experience with an OLD('96) Dolphin. In the Parachute Center, Lodi, CA , they have Dolphins and Reflexes for rent. Reflexes are perfectly fine, but the Dolphins... The velcro on main riser covers does not work at all !!! 2 weeks ago I rented a Dolphin . and guess what: on 8 grand I had the whole riser outside the container !!! Was not the most pleasant feeling. "
  19. Zennie - What did you use to create the graphics? -mb
  20. Everyone that I know has their "breakthrough" jump at a different point. Some people are relaxed after a half dozen jumps; some it takes 20-some or more. Keep on trying! -mb
  21. Keep trying - it's not natural to jump out of airplanes (or anything else that flies)! Just remember to relax, it sounds impossible but will help immensely. -mb
  22. I agree with all the ladies who want to be able to wear less clothing. 'nuff said. fyi = http://www.imagecrazy.com has such shirts, I just bought one . . . . . as a gift -mb

    Farmer McNasty

I had the pleasant experience of landing off once having to limbo under an electric fence that was about 10 inches away from a barbed wire fence. It was winter - the crops were in - what kind of farmer needs that kind of protection for a plowed field with no livestock?
  24. I agree with Mike - pack it for the practice. I am STILL waiting for my new rig (since late Nov.) due to a snafu but when I do get it I'll probably pack it whenever I'm home (which isn't much) for practice. -mb

    Quincy?

Can't decide between planning on Quincy or the "anti-Quincy" a.k.a. Skydive Chicago's 8 day boogies with a slew of planes at the same time. I was planning on Quincy but hopefully will have a trailer at SDC by then and it might be too much to drive further away for . . . .
