  1. I am working with my AFFI in putting a video together for the FJC . I am looking for footage and suggestion on this . For the footage anything with good dive flows to bad ones , landings Ect. I posted the begginings of the Mal. part on skydiving Movie's . WE have changed this already by taking the end out . If you have any sugestions on what else would go good in the video please let me know. Again we want to put every part of the course in the video ( good and bad and do's and don'ts ) in the video . Here is a link to what we have already and thanks for your help http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5577 Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  2. - however I would not use it in the current state yet... Some of the mals are so slow - "we get it, time to move on"... Some of the mals are breezed by... Well this is one of my fears in posting it . Getting critics. It still is in the early stages . I put it on skydiving movies so my AFFI could take a look at it and tell me what he thought. Also, I don't like the fact some of the mals show chops and some don't... Why? I want to teach my students when and when not to chop. You have many chop-worthy shots, some get chopped, some don't. Some they wait a long time, some they don't.... On this I am limited to the footage I can get. I think we want to show the malfunction and he can discuss the end result. They use flase cards right now and this way you can understand it a little better ( maybe) For an example, the line over gets chopped, but the tear doesn't. The tear does I just didnt show it . Also, I did not like the crash landings into the tent at the WFFC, as the cutaway was below the 2,500 foot decision altitude taught to FJC students and the crash was avoidable. The editing is not done So, now that I tore it apart like an ass-hat... Here is what I would try to do. Don't show ANY EPs - just show the mal pre-EP. Make sure every video clip is "by the book". And make sure each one has a very happy ending (for an example, I think the line twists on a reserve would be too scary to show. We all know it could happen, we discuss it in the class, but lets not build the negative thought "my reserve is going to mal too" with video.) Shocked Thanks for your comments and again it is in its early stages we are going to break the video into chapters with exits, dive flows landings, deployments ect. so if you have any good video we can use please email me . Thanks and Blue skies Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  3. Its funny this post is here . I am working with a AFFI on making a video . This what we have so far . Its in its early stages and the last part is going to be taken out http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5577 Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  4. I paid 2100 for my A last year . That included gear , coaches and pack jobs Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  5. I am new at camera flying and I need some suggestions on music for skydiving video's Thanks Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  6. BOTH Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  7. Thats great for the expriened but what about the new jumper that might not know that Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  8. I went from a 210 to a 170 around the same amount of jumps . I am 200 out the door. I am not telling you either way if it is ok or not.I am say that it was a little fast for me at first but it was not that bad . Like the last post I would like to ask if you if you are nervous about it maybe you should wait a little longer. About the boogies I have gone to a few. They are a hole different animal. You need to be careful no matter what size canopy you are flying. Reason is there are more people that don't jump at the DZ normally among other reason. The best thing to do I think is talk to you AFFI or someone at you DZ that knows you well enough to help you with all this. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  9. Mine is around 15 to 16 knots or 20mph if winds are steady. Gusty depends on how bad Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  10. I know at my DZ there were wind holds a few times . So it is not just up to the jumper .I think and it happens at my home DZ if the winds are to high the planes don't fly Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  11. thanks :) Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  12. This is also the worst case when it comes to exit separation. If the winds are opposite of jump run winds, give whatever time you'd give for the normal uppers - then add 20%. Ok and can you tell me how to figure 20% looking out the door of a plane . I am just wondering. This helped me a lot with it Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  13. I still say that 2000 to 3000 is low . I understand If someone opens at lets say 6000 and doesn't say anything ,That could be a problem. But to say normal opening Alt is 2-3 k Thats low to me .Then again what do I know .Low jump count an all . I have bin yelled at a couple of time opening at that hight at different DZ's . I guess Parris is different Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  14. I counted three canopy collison just in March of this year Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  15. I agree with that . I am talking about your normal day at your home DZ Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  16. If a canopy pilot is to be practicing maneuvers of anykind, they need to be done up high and AWAY from traffic. I was told differently . On every opening you sould pratice flat turns .And the reason is you never know when you are going to need it . If you do it every time it will be natural. Now before you jump down on me . I was told to check to see if my canopy was square and stable ,then to check my air space and then do a couple flat turns on the way to my set up point . You never no when someone is going to come at you when you are at 300 or less and if you dont pratice this you are probably going to drive you canopy right into the ground Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  17. So you are telling me that everyone at your DZ is pulling at 3000 - 2000 feet. I whave off at 3500 and pull and I am under canopy by 2200- 2500 .I think 2000 is a little low for me . If I pulled at 2000 I wouldnt be under canopy till 1000 and that would not leave any room for error .No thanks Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  18. I know the ground dont care LOL ..I just dont understand all these canopy collision this year . In the past couple of months there has bin a lot . I guess it mite be because i am new and my eyes are starting to open to this sport more then the first couple of months Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  19. Quote>Does anyone practice flat turn after there opening and check. I strongly recommend you do NOT do this! For the first 10-15 seconds after opening everyone should be flying straight away from the center, looking around. If everyone flies straight away from the center, there can be no canopy collisions within that group. Take the time to look around carefully, see where the other people on your dive are, collapse your slider (if you want to) and unstow your brakes. Then, once you understand what the traffic in your area is like, turn towards the pattern and start setting up.[/r That is what I am talking about .Pull check for square and stable , check air space ,release breaks THEN practice flat turns Sorry I didn't put every step into it and Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  20. there's no guarentee though that any of us will always exercise good judgement even with the best training Frown That for sure . Just look at the fatalities just this year with canopy collisions . Most if not all have bin with high jump counts. Does anyone practice flat turn after there opening and check. Or is it to get to the area to set up for your swoop. Someone mentioned separation . I bin to a lot of DZ on the east Coast in my short time skydiving . At some DZ free flier exit first . I thought this was a good idea at first until someone sent me a link that in was not so good. It does'nt give the separation you need. I think people need to get back to basics and stop trying to look so good for the crowd Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  21. Thanks .The Question is still there . Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  22. With all these deaths that have thousands of jumps. I don't get it . Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  23. I am glad my first jump was a tandem . I would have bugged out if not Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  24. How do you play the video's I click on it and it wont play Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
  25. Is that a USPA DZ? -[/reply Yes it is ..At the end of the year there were 25 students and only one AFFI.I did all 7 levels with one AFFI I would say one vs two AFFI is dependent on the type of AFF program you have. I know a lot of USPA dz's who have students do 1-3 tandems before AFF. Then all the AFF jumps are done with one instructor. Otherwise straight AFF usually uses 2 instructors. That's exactly what we do, 3 tandems, then 1 AFFI for all the levels. Steve beat me too it LOL Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!
