  1. So tell the moderators, then. 16-year olds are reading this forum. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  2. Some people have issues with getting the Sabre2 to open on heading, but good packing can correct this. I know new jumpers who jump Pilots, Sabre2, Spectres and Silhouettes, and all are very happy. 7-cells, like the spectre or the triathlon will generally glide shorter than 9-cells like Pilot, Sabre or Silhouette, but spectre is known for it's nice, soft openings, and is a very easy canopy to fly. I fly a Sabre, and I think that's a good canopy too. People say that it can open hard "every now and again", but I have to disagree. At least when it comes to my sabre. It opens hard if I mess up the slider, or forget to set it properly. Pack it properly, and it opens fine. The sabre is also very square and stable, and very easy to fly and land, a very good beginner's canopy, IMHO. And you can get them very cheap. 3. Yeah, or (to the golfer): "Why would anyone make 18 holes in a perfectly good lawn?" Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  4. Common pigeons or "feral pigeons" are descended from the rock pigeon (Columba livia) that humans domesticated to use as homing pigeons. They are actually very good and fast fliers, but their technique for evasion of their natural predators, falcons, is not so much dodging as flying in a confusing, fast group so that the falcon can't single out a single prey. Still, they are very good. They may be flying rats living off garbage, but try to watch them more closely. Birds have different flying styles, and pigeons use speed. 5. That's strange: most people at work ask intelligent questions when they see my PD calendar, and listen to my answers with varying degrees of interest. But there are two or three who have horrible stories to tell me about their friend doing a tandem jump, and the camera man forgot to put his rig on and fell to his death and they didn't get any video because the video camera was smashed. And this was supposed to be recently, like "last year", in Norway. I can't find the incident report, surely there must have been an incident report on something like that?. They top it with an assortment of "parachute didn't open" stories that they have heard and that they feel are very important to tell me as a warning. Well, I'm sure they mean well. 7. I never got into oils because of the solvents, but I did some acrylic for some time. You can use something called "retarder" to mix with your colors that makes them take longer to dry. That can help for mixing or blending colors into each other on the canvas, but will not enable you to use the same palette the day after. And I don't really know if acrylic is healthier either, with all those weird chemicals. And real mineral pigments, like cadmium reds and yellows. Now I'm more into photography, photoshop and Illustrator, and if I get the urge: watercolor.
  8. Bad boys aren't that hot. I think it's more a "I can't get him, so I want him"-thing. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  9. We strive for perfection. Take it easy with the coffee, OK? Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  10. I've never seen any birds higher than 2000', that's just personal experience, but I doubt you'll find many birds higher than that. Well, some you'll find, but not many, the food is mostly closer to the ground. You'll find swifts up to 2000' hunting for insects, and birds of prey maybe even higher. By 2000', I'm supposed to have an open canopy, and then the risk of collision or any damage from a collision is pretty remote. One would also think that birds like, say, pigeons would instinctively try to avoid things falling from the sky at 120 mph, because predators, such as peregrine falcons do excactly that. 11. Yay indeed! I've got about 15 visible 802.11b and g networks here (that's all my network cards can register), and there is always one or two open ones, and even ones that still have all the factory settings, including a password that's available from the manufacturer's user's manual, so you can make changes in the configuration of a router that's a) not yours and b)you don't have a clue where is located. My network on the other hand, at least is hidden and at least uses wep encryption. I know it's not bomb proof, but why bother about mine, when there are so many free ones? Oh, sorry, I can't entertain you. I'm bored myself. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  12. I like a bit of jumping out of aircraft every now and then, but I can stop anytime I want to. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  13. Does jumping around on one leg in my appartment count? In that case I jumped today too. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  14. I'll see if I can find them. But they do things differently at different DZs here too. At some places, they need to do spotting without GPS, the plane might have it, but they still need to look out, and then they can't jump from full altitude if the cloud layer is 100%. At other places, there are high mountains, air traffic etc. My home DZ is quite exceptional with no air traffic, and quite flat terrain. If the GPS should for some reason fail, we'd have a problem, of course. Instead of wishing the rules were different in Denmark, you could go to Østre Æra to jump? 15. Do you have a link to these rules so I can read them? Or can you describe them? At my home DZ, the pilots spot using GPS, and often, all we see is white when we go out. There are of course some cloud altitudes that are more problematic than others, that mean that we don't jump, but if we weren't to jump when there are clouds, then we'd never get to jump in our climate. I'm curious about the danish rules, I hear that all jumping stops at US DZs when there is one cloud in the sky, and that's probably OK if you're in, say, Arizona, where there aren't many clouds. I'm sure this depends on other air traffic, and other factors too. Where I jump, there's only forest, an airstrip with a jump plane and nothing else. It would probably be a lot more complicated with a lot of other air traffic or jump planes. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. 16. What's the point of having a tank if you can't use it to wreck mobile phone masts with it? Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  17. There's actually some truth in that. It is more dangerous to go out together, but you still feel kinda safer when seeing your friends around you. Oh, and it's about 100 times more fun than going out alone. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  18. Sure, have fun, be safe. I think I heard somewhere that potato sacks with AADs would be safer than people skydiving. Potato sacks don't turn low. I'm sure that applies to Teddy Bear too. 19. I'm looking forward to the movie. I think the book could have been a little shorter, and I think there is a lot that can be cut out while still telling the story. I also think that many of the scenes form the book will look great on the screen.
  20. No real thunder here either. I remember Bretagne. That was REAL thunder. BOOOOOM. I love that kind of weather when I know that the house I'm in is unlikely to be hit. Like when there are other, taller objects nearby. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  21. Greetings from Finland. I was jumping in every month I think from the last 12. We have an old(?) saying here in Norway: "Never, ever try to compete with the finnish. you will be beaten and disgraced." Their tolerance to alcohol and cold is said to be legendary. Well some norwegians jump through the winter, and I hear stories of 0P canopies getting all stiff and slippery in the cold, dry weather, and having to wear a face mask in freefall. But a lot of norwegians choose other activities in winter. Well, this was a bit off topic, but couldn't resist. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. 22. Well, everyone needs a break from the Bonfire occationally? I'm pretty sure I saw a very recent post from him in "general skydiving discussions. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  23. Here in Norway, almost everyone are 4-5-6-7 months uncurrent when the season starts. Not very tempting to jump with any of the tandem instructors, that I know are just as uncurrent as I am. What people usually do here is doing a solo belly and pulling high. And practice EPs and have a plan for what they're going to do in their freefall. I was pretty scared before my first jump after 7 months, but after having practiced EPs and made a plan, I felt calmer, and on jump run, all my fear was gone. I just went out and had a great jump. But everyone is different, and you just do what you feel comfortable about. This is just what worked for me. I would say fear is pretty normal when it's been a while since you jumped.
  24. Teddy Bear doesn't need a parachute. He doesn't have any bones in his body to break, and being filled with airy, acrylic material, he will have a pretty low terminal velocity. There might be rules against dropping him, though. Why not return the cypres to Airtech Gmhb? I think they will give you a discount on your new Cypres2.
