speaking of fill flash , can flash users comment on the flash settings that you use for the 580 exII on a rebel xt. i have used the TV function (320), with the flash at ETTL. i have also used full manual (200, f 8) with the flash at full 1/1.. right now i am using the stock lens 18-55, subjects 5-10 away. assume day shots for now,, i see the effective range at 24mm 1/1 is 96'.. and 1/2 is 65'.. is that right assuming the iso is 100.. if i go to 1/2 will i get a faster recycle rate and i am using recharable batts for now, btw .. i am curious to hear your settings and why you use them.. dont let life pass you by

here is an optic with still on the top, video on the side with a d-box and 580 ex II fill flash mounted on the box ... i think you would be hard pressed as someone else mentioned to sqeeze both up top.. i think parachusist high side mount is the next best option.. dont let life pass you by

never used one or owned one,, cant think buying this old, big technology compared to pc series, dcr 20/30/40, or hc -3/5 for around the same price... maybe at $300, maybe IMHO. so my answer for 500 is no. dont let life pass you by

quality is alot better on the cookie but also is can be alot wider especially on inside video.. the cheap lens are .6. or .5.. the lens you would want for jumpng with your buddies is a .2 or .3... are you willing to pay 125 for the difference is the question.. i have a .45 cookie on a hc42 and it is not great for inside video.. if you want to see the width, quality etc,, go to the videos on this site and look at the chicks rock video or the moab video by sinjin,, those are mine.. p dont let life pass you by

i have the hc-42 and rebel xt on an optic illusion.. video is sidemounted in a bonehead box and the set up works great.. the cameeye requires some extra drilling but otherwise fine. if you need help mounting or other questions just ask.. i think the hc40 is a little better as it does not need a cradle. p dont let life pass you by

another thought is what you are shooting and using the sight for. some pro's use the concentric rings to judge the size of the object they are shooting and how far away to be to keep it all in frame.. eg 4 way to 40 way and keeping the framing right.. now if you just shooting tandems or just one genre, maybe the orange popsicle will do.. me i use a ring sight and it has helped my video quality alot.. dont let life pass you by

i have the hc -42,, i have a put a couple of hundred jumps on it and the quality is great.. i would use only one brand of tape in it and preferable sony.. i started with a cheap .45 lens and then moved to an expensive cookie .45 as it fits in the box cleaner and is better quality as i do tandems. i put it in a bone head box and it fits nice,, if you get the cheap lens,, you will have to dremel the opening a little wider but no problem .. the cradle is small pain but it is fine for the price of the camera. if you can find a hc-42 go for it... dont let life pass you by

thanks for the replys everyone ... i would post the spectacular shot i got,, but i sat on the ground with 1000' overcast skies as the rocket blasted off,, and not 10 minutes after the skies were clear the rest of the day.. i will go for the special shot tony next time,, hope your music career is going well !!! blues and rockets at the same time pablo dont let life pass you by

that some good information and think i will try to err on the underexposed side.. i am using the rebel XT and the stock lens, 18-55, but i might be able to use a cannon 15 mm fixed.. the fixed 15mm is much better glass but might be too wide for this type of shot.. anyone have advice on that ?? dont let life pass you by

i will be taking photos of a skydive with a missle launch in the background. anyone with experience in taking missle launch photos with advice or tips would be appreciated. thanks dont let life pass you by

not sure if this is going to work for you but it did for me and one other guy. i have a hc-42 and he had a pc-1000. if it is a reinsert the cassette error, take the tape out, power it down, close the unit and give it a couple of hard slaps on the sides. i know this sounds whacked but more than one person has recommended it and it seemed to work on both camcorders. i would also try running a minidv head cleaner through it as well.. dont let life pass you by
