  2. it will be a year august and i will have 365 jumps by then.... looks like roughly one a day by my calculator.. it has been a great year of jumping but a bad year for my bank account or lack there of.. one of the best years of my life... thanks all !!! i reckon that would qualify as active.. dont let life pass you by
  3. what changes under the hood do you recommend. ??my budget is limited but i am trying to get Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7300 (2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 4mb cache L2, 2gdb ddr2 ram, and 160 hd (5400, although trying to get a 7200) with an external for storage. will that be enough to get by ??? it is for my own use right now and not really intending it for commercial or DZ use. thanks again for everyones help in advance dont let life pass you by
  4. I am buying a new laptop and would like to know if the video card plays any role in capturing, editing, and eventual output. i have to buy a laptop and cant go desktop. i will not be playing games on it. i would rather pay for other things (hd space, GHZ, ) computer if the video card will not impact my editing. i will be getting an external HD to store the video btw. thanks dont let life pass you by
  5. nice video- that is some very technical driving BTW. jumping with people who are rubbing people the wrong way since 1975. dont let life pass you by
  6. i would recommend 100 iso unless it is a sunset load or sunrise or very cloudy.. anything else is not needed and you will be losing quality in your photos. your shutter can be as low as 250 but you better be still and the subject should be pretty still or you are going to get blur. your apeture (f-stop) can be and should be based on your shutter speed. the slower the shutter speed,, the smal/er opening/higher f stop you can use. having said that photography is art so if you want all your action stopped- faster shutter (800) low f stop( f4 eg). you want more background and some blur- slower shutter (250) and f11 (eg). for a general full manual safe setting bright day iso 100- 400 shutter f 8 -f 9 is pretty safe freefly/ zoo dive maybe 500- f 7 belly/ tandem 4 /big way 320- f 11 dont let life pass you by
  7. i am not sure where you are in socal but check with skydive santa barbara as they may be looking for an editor.. dave is the dz owner and john is an editor but is leaving soon so give them a shout.. i started jumping last august and i am a camera guy now with 340 jumps. it can be done and is realistic. i video tandems and the dz edits. i edit my own fun jumps and made about 15 (10min) videos so far. i am not sure about supporting yourself on just editing,, others might help you there. good luck dont let life pass you by
  8. i guess i use a combination.. i use manual focus on a single element lens on a hc-42. i use auto on the white balance just because i am not sure i could adjust it more accurately. i will knob tweek if it looks like the picture is distorted. If it looks quality then i leave it alone as far as the video camera goes. i have gone full manual on the stills but i took a class and that helped a lot. and it has been said before but thanks for everything that you do on this forum to help me/us out with the technical side of videography. dont let life pass you by
  9. thanks for the posting the video and the advice.. how hard is it to stay in position while the team gets ready ? is your chest parallel with the side of the plane to decrease wind resistance on your body. the left hand pushing on the wing is a great tip.. glad you made it ok after biffing the tire with your melon. blues and sharp pics,, p dont let life pass you by
  10. I want to experiment with front float exits on free fly jumps mostly.. I was trying to sit fly off the rear step on sit trains and guerrillas and getting too much separation. i can go HD but want to keep the shot more upright.. i want some insight on how to exit from a caravan as a front float.. ours has a bar on the top and on the inside.. there is no step or handles on the outside.. there is a small edge for the roll door but not much to grab on the inside edge. do you put your left or right foot in the door. do you drop or push out ?? do you go back to the relative wind or head into the wind ?? do you get blown into the dive if you leave too late ?? dont let life pass you by
  11. i have only landed off once and it was at the ranch too. uppers were screaming and the porter was blowing sideways on jump run.. i landed in some field and had to jump a fence while making my way back to the dz.. then i realized i had jumped into a llama farm and they were none too happy about me being in their house. thought i was going to feed them my spectre to get away !! i gave it my best llama mating call and ran for it... dont let life pass you by

  16. well i will add to what he said,, the river bed landing area is very soft actually and a great place to land.. the upper area has a average size square of peas but the rest is pretty solid. the rental equipment is nice and current if you dont have your own gear. it will be busy ont the weekends and only really slow on tues or weds but they still may have loads. the 206 only needs 4.. grey works in manifest and can answer your questions.. there is a myspace skydive santa barbara page too.. it is my home DZ and it is a great vibe.. pm if you need any more info.. 17. can you post a pic of your setup mr pharmer phil please. dont let life pass you by
  18. i have the cookie .45 and the quality of the lens is great. the picture width is narrower than most to begin with so if you are looking for comparable width you may want to go .3. it also depends what you are shooting.. it will be ok for tandems but you better stay close in anything you shoot at .2/.3. i shoot tandems with the .45 but could use a .3. i would have bought a royal but they were not availible at the time,, any of the high quality cookie/liquid/royal lens will be fine. i think the .5 will be a little wider than your kenko. i would go .3 if you really want to see a difference in width. you will only be able to zoom halfway but there are really limited uses for zooming in a wide angle lens. not sure what you are shooting but you may have to fly a little closer.. if you have any other techincal questions, DSE is the man. dont let life pass you by
  19. our DZ is using the Aleratec and the power button is manlged already in 6 months,, not sure if you are using in a commercial environment but it does not seem like it will hold up in the long run for a commercial operation. if you are just using it at home once in a while, it may be fine.. my 2 cents P dont let life pass you by
  20. PD is great about sending demos right away and they will take care of you. i think kim is in charge of demos and i would recommend it highly. i demo'd several canopies and glad i did. i liked the sabre2 but went with a spectre as i am a vidiot. blues P dont let life pass you by
  21. the blow switch does not come with a plug,, but you can find some around ,, i went to an electronics store and the geeks behind the counter will find one for .. tell them it is for skydiving and they will probably give it to you for free.. i love my blow switch and i recommend it.. dont let life pass you by
  22. i have the hc-42 and a .45.. i like it and the quality is great. to add you also cant zoom more than halfway with a single element lens. there should not be too many situation where you need to. just wanted to make sure you are an informed buyer. dont let life pass you by
