  1. Would it be ok with you if they spent the rest of their life in solitary confinement? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  2. And just what reward would that be? The reward is to have justice and to not waste the finite resources we have on this planet. The arguement put forth is that we should not have the death penalty because we are not perfect. I do not believe that we should stop doing anything in society based on not being able to do it perfectly instead of whether it is right or wrong. I believe we should not do what is wrong or what is right but can not be done to an acceptable level of error. I believe we should do what is right to an acceptable level of error and strive for perfection in reducing that level of error. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  3. There is no mention of jail. Agreed, I just did not want to get into the differences because then I would be asked to define the differences and ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  4. I'm not sure why it is appalling so long as it is done in a courteous manner and to everyone. because where we're from only criminals get fingerprinted and photographed for the records. Well, over here there are people who are not criminals that get fingerprinted and photographed. I was fingerprinted when I accepted a job working for the government at the post office. 5. The death penalty is fundamentally different from all other current methods of punishment. Once enacted, it cannot be reversed. For the third time, how many innocent people are you willing to kill for the priviledge of executing the guilty, or are you too chicken to answer the question? 1/10,000 - 5/10,000 (Innocent / Guilty) There are people around the world that lack the necessities such as food, water, and shelter and I would rather they be given these necessities than http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_serial_killers_by_country#USA. I understand and accept that I may be innocent but found guilty and executed because the risk is low and the reward is high. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  6. This is covered in the thread Innocent vs. Guilty. No, it is not. That thread is focused on the discussion of incarceration. My question stands, how many innocent people are you willing to kill in order to be able to execute the guilty ones? That thread is focused on innocent people being found guilty (regardless of punishment). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  7. This is not because of the execution, it is because of the time spent on death row. This is covered in the thread Innocent vs. Guilty. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  8. While 0 may not be possible, it should certainly be the goal. The alternative is to say that some number besides 0 is acceptable and requires no further improvement. Blues, Dave We accept many things while still continuing to improve upon them. Example: Skydiving equipment was and is accepted and yet manufactures still are attempting to make improvements. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  9. Morphine (along with other pain medications) comes in pill form, could be given during the last meal and thus an anesthesiologist is not needed. What other forms of torture did I say I was happy about? Are you referring to the mental torture of knowing the time and place of your death? If so, I did not say I was happy about this. This is one of the byproducts of execution (that you were referring to) that can not be minimized. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  10. What do we need a doctor for? Mankind has already created pain medications and methods of execution that minimize the amount of pain and suffering to an acceptable amount. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  11. The moment you chose a method of execution over another that allows for a greater amount of pain and suffering you added torture. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  12. We, as a civilized society, should minimize pain and suffering during execution by choosing a method of execution that eliminates or minimizes pain and suffering. We have enough pain medications and methods of execution resulting in instant death that this should be possible. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  13. A pussy would be the one who knows what should be done but doesn't do it. A dick would be the one who knows what should be done and does it. An asshole would be the one who knows what should be done and does it but adds torture. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  14. It's agreed then, torture is ok. The purpose of an execution is to kill the recipient of the sentance of death. If that person is killed then the execution has been carried out and the job done. If torture is a byproduct of the killing then thats the price you pay for having a death penalty. If you are squeemish about it then abolish the Death Penalty. I disagree, we should not have the death penalty if it is not possible without torture. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  15. How do you do an execution wrong ... so long as the person dies you have done it right. Apparently the Governor of Florida and a Federal judge in CA do not agree with you. In fact, your exact attitude was explicitly mentioned by the judge in his ruling as one reason it was NOT done 'right'. I guess you'd be happy with burning at the stake, or burying in an anthill. Actually as I have stated in another post, I would be happier if it was done with one gun and one bullet so that as few resources as necessary are consumed and the person dies instantly and without pain or suffering. It has been argued that the death penatly is torture ... prove that it is more torture than life without parole spent in solitary confinement. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  16. There is no need to waste more resources for an execution ... one gun, one bullet. I do believe in the death penalty, I do not believe in cruel and unusual punishment. PS: I do not like cancer, I do not want cancer to suffer, I want cancer to disappear. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  17. How do you do an execution wrong ... so long as the person dies you have done it right. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  18. I just don't get the whole limiting your options thing... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  19. I can only hope that he forgot to add not. Cruel and unusual punishment is not for the innocent or the guilty. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  20. I did answer you question. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  21. I would be interested to know if this is due to policy or to pay (or lack there of amongst personal). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  22. And I'm sure that the people who are faking their identity or are criminals wouldn't lie. PS: Why do they check your ID when you buy tobacco, alcohol, or firearms? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  23. Because if the FBI or CIA is doing there job (like you mentioned) they should have a picture and possibly a fingerprint of the people they should be watching. By taking your photo and fingerprint they can compare it to their database (we have the technology to do facial and fingerprint recognition). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  24. But you can create a fake passport with your photo in it. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  25. It is harder to forge a fingerprint and photo then a passport so they are better forms of validation. Do you believe you should even have to present a passport? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
