Adrenalin junkies in this sport
fastphil replied to Baksteen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the term “cheating death” is a misnomer and shows a lack of understanding for the sport (and supports the “this is a sport?” perspective). Unlike being shot at, where, as the target, you have almost no control of your situation; skydivers have almost total control of their circumstances. The adrenaline rush is addictive, but it’s the explorative nature of a new universe with a new realm of possibilities that attracted me, and also the reason that, as I gained proficiency, I moved on to the next challenge. -

Howdy Dave, You may have taken the photo, can’t remember, but I love it. After almost twenty years together Kathy and I went separate ways; my loss. Most of my jumping now is lower level on a windsurfer, but the body is getting tired of that beating. I always thought skydiving is something I could return to in old age. Good to hear from you, and I still intend to get down under one day. Here is another Spaceland pic from early 80s… Take care -
Yeah, I would wear a condom for a tandem also...

Would your DZ let you use a Baser system to skydive.

Sorry if my remark was taken to be a personal attack; it was not meant to be. I don’t see a safety dilemma with skydiving a rig that carries a TSO but I do see the opportunity it may have in building confidence with the rig... -

So, you're saying the BASEr is the George Bush of rigs, or did I take a wrong turn. Early on BASE jumpers actually thought they were furthering the sport of skydiving. We were soon told otherwise. Apparently it's like legalizing marijuana or being gay in the military. In my opinion BASE is skydiving, but skydiving is not BASE. Now that's weird... -
I complained because there were no foldouts... In fact, it makes sense to mount an altimeter where your fellow jumpers are occasionally glancing anyway. I am in favor of altitude awareness.

In the real world most skydivers don’t want the idea of BASE to interfere with what their idea of skydiving is… -

Do you ever smoke weed before jumping?
fastphil replied to surfbum5412's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Seems contradictory to burn one to get laid back and then go perform your feat at a couple hundred miles an hour. And you left out my favorite option to "smoke it down and pull high"... -

Muskogee Article - Call for Stories & Pics
fastphil replied to BIGUN's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
That’s the one; totally my fault also, even the call to do a transfer in lieu of cutaway. I had (have) a bad habit of going too fast, and would start flying a canopy even during inflation, so in my rush I just came in on top of Kat way to fast. Then thinking we were kinda low (I was entangled to the point I couldn’t see) I yelled at Kat to initiate the transfer. Her reserve was a KXX Pioneer I believe, and you’re spot on about the opening time, may have taken even longer from my point of view. And then when it inflated I think she took her time cutting away just to punish me. I was stretch out facing straight down by then. Anyway, I’m usually not that clumsy, and this was another good trip with another tight spot. I may have a pic or two of the “airwork” somewhere. Someone I didn’t even know mailed me pictures, how embarrassing.
