On my Merlin suit, the swoop cords are about 6 inches long, and run from my thumb to the top of the leading edge of the wing, right where it meets my arm. Pulling the swoopp cords has the effect of straightening the wing. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I'm 90% sure there's at least one semi-frequent poster to dz.com who I think is doing exactly this. The problem is that she's read enough online that it's not so easy to bust. I won't name names, but when I was in her region and tried to track her down once to say 'hi', I couldn't find a single person who knew her... I really do feel sorry for people who's lives are so incredibly boring they have to make up an interesting one just to feel good about themselves... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The pc101 is a current product manufactured by Sony. The pc1 is a discontinued product. The pc101 is likely to be sold with an intact Sony waranty, the 101 is not. Otherwise, the differences reflect the advancements in the technology - higher quality digital stills, better zoom, and more "bells and whistles". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Brian Germaine's method. The problem I have with it is that it puts the hundred pound girl into the same category as the two-twenty pound guy. Canopies do not scale linearly. The effects of wing-loading do not scale linearly. A fat-ass can jump at 1.2 with 40 jumps just as safely as a lightweight at .8 Any canopy regulation needs to reflect this fact of aerodynamics. I would much rather see more stringent canopy control lessons being manditory. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

That's one of the reasons I use AndyMan - not a common brute-forcable guess. I've never gotten spam on dz.com - although I don't post the email address anywhere public, nor do I allow it used in commercial correspondence. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It is. Dbuys.com has it for $818. There's a BUNCH of us who've bought from DBUYS with very good experiences - myself, wildblue, phreezone, motherhen, cajun... plus a few others. We all strongly recomend dbuys.com Unless you've had good experiences with broadway or know someone who'll recomend it, I'll suggest paying the extra $10 for dbuys. http://www.dbuys.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dby.proPage&product_id=1323 _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Right, but if there's enough turbulence at jump altitude and below to bounce someone around in a place, you will not be jumping that day due to weather. This largely isn't an issue with skydiving. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

How many jumps before you purchased your own rig?
AndyMan replied to Skylark's topic in Safety and Training
I bought mine at 30-something. Why? Why not? Why would I want to keep jumping student gear?!?!?!? By 30 jumps I'd gotten to the point where I was jumping a canopy in a reasonable size, that I could forsee jumping for another year or two. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

When I was going through AFF, one of my instructors did NOT have an AAD, when I asked why his answer was that he wanted to be able to chase a student low, and a Cypres wouldn't allow that. At the time, I thought that was pretty cool. Now I think that's pretty stupid. I can understand someone going below 2000 feet, but someone who chooses to go below 1000 needs his head examined, if you ask me. He was jumping a postage sized VX, I think. This is an interesting debate, but I'll hold judgement for a few more years, I think... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Since your're ruling out the two most popular H/P canopies right off the bat.... Maybe I could suggest you jump a Raven 4? Or, maybe a Manta? Maybe you'll find them more to your liking... Repeat after me: ANY HIGH PERFORMANCE CANOPY CAN, AND WILL SPIN UP. Cobalts, Stilettos, Crossfires, Nitro's, Samurais, whatever. Any difference in the spin-up rate is trivial. I've chopped my Triathlon because it spun. I have not chopped my Stiletto. ANY HIGH PERFORMANCE CANOPY CAN KILL YOU WHEN THEY HIT TURBULENCE. People die every year under Cobalts, Crossfires, Stiletos, Samurai's. At least Icarus was smart enough to recall and fix their broken Crossfires. Unless you've got a personal grudge against Icarus, I would consider the crossfire 2. It is a very good canopy. Likewise, unless you've bought into all the stories about "Spinetto"s - a name that goes back 10 years, I would consider the Stiletto. If you're so convinced the Cobalt has none of these problems, then buy one blind. However, it would be smarter to talk to some of the people here who hate them, like some of the guys who sold them after having them for less then a month. However, if you were REALLY smart, you'd keep your mind open, use demo programs, and put at least 10 jumps on a canopy before making up your mind about it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

If you were paying attention, you'd KNOW that one dude is going to screw things up. This goes to rhino's point, too - once you figure out what I'm aluding too. Go back and watch it again, you'll see what you missed. A much more interesting debate is what role the annoying kid will make in the next movie: hero or idiot? Edited to add: this goes to rhinos point about xion being in the matrix, because agents are software, they can only exist inside the maxtrix. Since the agent is in xion, xion must be in the matrix.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I really got off not only on the Christian mythology in Reloaded, but the greek mythology and eastern religious ideas. My little knowledge of Bhudism came in handy. I wish I'd known more... What I love about this movie is that on the surface it's just a great action movie. If you're looking for more then that, you just start peeling back the layers. Like an onion, every time you peel one back you find another underneath. This reminded me about how badly I've fallen behind on my reading.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Last weekend a course director and master-rigger told me that it is unncesary to regularly flex risers when the rig is equiped with stainless rings. Is there any truth to this? The logic as explained was thet the stiffness in the risers comes from nickel plating wearing off the rings, which isn't an issue with stainless. Thoughts? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It's up to you, but literally every time I hear of someone buying a camera that isn't Sony, they end up regretting it. No, to answer one of your questions, I am not familiar with the Canon DV cameras. I've never seen any being jumped, nor have I ever used one myself. I do know some of their high end cameras have very good reputations in profesional circles. If you do get it, make SURE you get a good extended waranty. Make sure it has a LANC port. (probably doesn't) Make sure it has Firewire. (probably doesn't). Make sure it will fit whatever mounting system you plan to use. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Actually, that is patently false, as of two years ago. See this: http://www.nutritiononestop.com/articles/organic.html Personally, I love it when people post completely false assertions. It's just too fun to show them being wrong. Also, you seem to miss the point. The difference between this and the tobacco lawsuits are that everybody KNOWS tobacco is dangerous, but most people do not know that trans-fatty acids are any more dangerous then other kinds of fats, or that products even contain trans-fatty acids in the first place. People generally know that fat is bad, but this is not entirely true. Small quantities of fat are necesary for life, kinda like salt. Trans-fatty acids are different. They do not occur in nature, and there is no "good" aspect, any way you look at it - they are lethal. Saying ""there's nothing wrong with them as long as you moderate your intake", makes as much sense as saying the same thing about cyanide. Likewise, with your oxygen comparison - oxygen has a good side to it, but trans-fatty acids do NOT. The only reason to use trans-fatty acids are monetary. It's cheaper to use margarine then it is to use butter. It's cheaper to use shortnening then lard. Anyone who does baking will tell you a pie crust made with lard instead of shortening tasts a hell of a lot better. Unfortunately, it's also more expensive. This isn't like the fat guy sueing mcDonalds, either. The fat guy should've known better. Kids don't. Kids parents don't. It's not on the label, and people don't know what it does. The manufacturers DO know what it does. The manufacturers should know better. They are entirely man made compounds, do not exist in nature, and are toxic. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

How many jumpsuits or skydiving outfits do you have?
AndyMan replied to Jessica's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 3. One camera that gets the most use, one freefly, and one RW. I will probably get a second RW soon, because a fat guy in spandex is NOT a cool thing. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
The guy who runs the Chicagoland video concession is doing DVD's. I'm not sure if he's using a burner or a "recorder", I promise I'll check it out one of these days... I can say that once he started doing this, DVD sales outnumber VHS sales 3-1. No, I don't know what he's charging for them. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

If you were to do the Bittorent thing, I believe the way it works would require that everybody who "mirrors" loads that mirror by downloading the files from "master" bittorent website. I don't think you can pre-load the "mirrors". Sadly, I don't have a DVD burner. I've already turned off the server, but if you like I can turn it back on without anonymous access if you'd like to grab stuff. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

IT could also be a Para-Commander, which if my history knowledge is correct, pre-dated the Papillon. However, being in the formet Soviet Union, it is probably a Soviet made Para-Commander knock-off. But that's just my guess. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
