  1. I don't know what country you are from, but in the US once you have your license and own gear , full-altitude jumps typically cost $18-22. Getting your license and buying gear can easily run $5000 or more, although it can also be doen somewhat cheaper.

    Wanderlust

I've been back living in Gurnee since the spring of 2003. No plans to move any time soon. Yeah, it's right between the mall and Ikea. It's the place with the big torch statue out front. They also have a couple of buildings downtown on Michigan Ave.

I think his name is Josh, or John or something. Gerhard started out as a bit on Jimmy Kimmel's show.
  5. OS X won't run on non-Apple hardware. "We will not allow running Mac OS X on anything other than an Apple Mac," Phil Schiller, Apple Senior Vice President. Honestly, this is not a suprising move. Apple is in the hardware business. One of the major components of OS Xs stability is Apple's tight control over everything that goes into the box. The good news is that Apple has said that they won't prevent other OSes from running on their hardware, so Linux Mac86 is a given, and Windows XP/Longhorn for Mac86 is at least possible. It may also be possible to do sneaky things and make OS X run on non-Apple hardware, but I don't have my fingers crossed.
  6. At those prices, I couldn't afford to get drunk.
  7. That is up to the software manufacturers. Steve Jobs says Apple is committed to supporting PowerPC (G3, G4, G5) processors for a "long time." Whether other software companies will do the same is up to them, but Apple is putting a lot of effort in making it easy for developers to support both types of processors. Unless prices drop substantially after the processor switch (which I don't think will happen), it will be a long time before the Intel Mac installed base outnumbers the PPC Mac installed base. Combined with Apple's commitment to making is easy for developers to support both processors, it won't make economic sense for most products to drop PPC support for at least 5 years.
  8. I can't subtly pull out my phone to check the time. I can glance at my watch during a meeting or conversation without being too rude.
  9. > What do i do?? Screw 'em. A few business days is the most I will wait. If I don't hear back from them by then, I assume the item is off of the market. How about a feature request: "Unresponsive seller? If the seller has not responded to you in X business days, please click here". Get enough clicks, the seller receives an automatic email and has to respond in a few days or the ad is automatically deleted.
  10. There was some cool wingsuit footage that a guy made by taping a camera like this to his shoe. A similar mount for a whole camera would have been much more complicated and dangerous. I can think of a few other interesting shots that would be easier to get with a lipstick camera. It could definitely be fun to play with.
  11. This is not true. My friend was almost a victim of this type of scam. He was selling an item for $1500 and a man from Nigeria sent him a cashier's check for $5000. I think what he meant by "only looking to pay for gear" was that the buyer would write the check for the exact amount. Personally, I never accept payment for anything other than the exact amount, I never sell to anybody that I haven't talked to on the phone (even with only a brief conversation it's pretty easy to tell if a buyer is actually a skydiver), I never sell to anybody outside of the US or Canada, and I prefer to ship to dropzones rather than residences.
  12. I dunno. Who I am today is the sum of everything that I have experienced, good and bad. I like who I am, and wouldn't want to give that up just to get rid of some bad memories.

    How tall are you?

Actually, I think it's a really popular size so used rigs in your size are easy to sell locally or sell very quickly on the Internet. I'm 6'0, 180 lbs.

    Who's Hot?

Rachel Perry Marianne Sierk defines cute (which is distinct from hot, but just as good)
  15. I've attached a picture showing the "camera step" on the PAC at Sky Knights. The step is circled in red (along with what appears to be a seatbelt trailing out of the door).
  16. 0:14:1 Finally shaking off the winter dust this week. During the week I did 4 rides as a tandem passenger for some TMs-to-be, 2 tandem videos, and some freeflying. This weekend I did 6 video jumps at the MWSL meet. It was a great meet. Five teams competed in A class and at the end of the day the diference in averages between first and fourth place was one point.
  17. Who needs a bidet? "A gentleman knows that it is considered good manners to have an unopened toothbrush on hand for his lady friend, in the event that she should like to freshen up after eating his ass."
  18. Rigging tickets never expire. Some people in this thread haven't done any rigging since the 70s, and their tickets still show up.

  21. Sorz or Flex-Zs. The Zs work fine unless I'm going fast, then they have a tendency to let too much air in. I have a pair of bug-eye goggles like you linked to, and they work fine, but they seem to reduce my field-of-view. Sorz are the best all-around goggles for me.
  22. I don't remember where I saw it. I've been to digg a few times but I'm not a regular reader, so it probably wasn't there.
  23. Tired of excelling at Tetris? Try Bastet. "Unlike normal Tetris(R), however, Bastet does not choose your next brick at random. Instead, Bastet uses a special algorithm designed to choose the worst brick possible. As you can imagine, playing Bastet can be a very frustrating experience!"
