HnP I have 3 that I really remember off all of them at a Cessna DZ. 1st one Emergency Exit Simulation from C206. DIve exit with an unwanted front flip. Recover fast and deploy. No line twist saddle by 2800 I think. Next HnP was for droping water balloons on target. It was a contest organized by the DZ and a bad idea I might add. The judge(DZO) was sitting on his back next to the target watching the sky while we were dropping water balloons from 1000 ft. First balloon that got close enogh for him to see something shown a 2-3 inch deep crater in the ground. Next one another contest where we were timmed from landing until finishing up a beer ... at least I've got a beer. I've witness people playing landing TicTacToe from HnP. HnP games are fun... http://www.skydivemrvs.com/where/facilities.shtml Yet another gender biased DZ! The ladies bathroom is bigger and the yellow stains on the floor are missing ... Congrats Gato! Seems that you have found a nice home! P.S. How come there's no reading material in the bathroom? (canpara, parachutist, etc ) Edit to add: Use the left arrow to find the bathrooms panorama! Looking for a good way to keep riser covers closed.

Popping the brakes during deployment
d123 replied to ShadowCount's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I come up with 2 for sure and *maybe* 3 - rear risers. My 1st choise for turn (into the wind or whatever) until I un-stow the brakes. - brakes. - weight shift? Maybe works haven't try it and I wont try it during the snivel. With brakes stowed front risers pressure its impossible. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls! -
I think that you and people like you get the best out of the both worlds (parapente & skydiving)! Funny how the idea that the time doesn't really exists seems to pop up in aviation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Experiment_with_Time and the writer of the book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_William_Dunne Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Hi Andre, Wouldn't the error in the altimeter be constant in all the cases? I mean if you open a Nav at 5000 and it takes @ 500 feet to open (reading the altitude difference from pitch to saddle) and you open you Spectre at 4000 and it takes 1000 feet to open doesn't this mean that the Spectre takes +500 to open compare with Nav? How's your golden handle? I've meet you at Twin-Otter Boogie last! Hope it's going to be another one this year! Blue skies boils so I wish you hazy & humid skies with good visibility to everybody! Its interesting that Storm its "accepted" for students while Spectre is not! Would that make the bigger size Storm a less demanding canopy than Spectre? Edit to add the references: Sabre2 230 Max weight for Students: 184 Storm 230 Max weight for Students: 173 Spectre 230 Max weight for Students: N/R (Not Recommended) Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

My 2 cents ... Expect it and be ready to feel it again! When you see that is about the time when they open the door tell yourself: I've been here before I know what I'm going to feel next, I'm about to feel fear as they open that door. Here comes! Because you're expecting it, it wont surprize you and it wont kidnap most of your attention so you'll have some left to focus on your actions. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Spectre landing flare help based on video
d123 replied to repcool's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Same problem here, I've changed my risers this year. Before I had no slack in the brakes lines now they slack. Before it was levelling off @ ears level now @ nipple level. Now is going faster. Before I've land it from half brakes and still had a good flare now I'm afraid to do something new with it. My landing Saturday looked exactly like yours .... I'm planning to ask an experienced pilot to fly it and to give me tips via the radio on my next jump. I'll make sure we have the same WL. I'm looking for ways to address this problem of mine ... suggestions are highly appreciated! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls! -
Does the webbing/harness have the same rate of deterioration? Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Same question different wing. Spectre 230. I got ~3 inches difference between A lines. PD specs say A lines should be the same. On openings, after snivel and inflation, it rocks to left then right then left then right for about 3-4 sec. I get ~40 degree off heading with all the rocking. Takes ~1000 ft to open. Lands well under correct input. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Placing the slider over my sholders reduced my sideway to back visibility. Cuting away with the slider docked scares me! I've bought and install slink covers to block the slider. I still colapse it! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

As a follow up to this thread I have to say that I'm considering removing the hardware in the late fall/beginig of winter. As a tip to everybody who has fucked ankles (sprain or dislocated) from a guy who has hands on experience on the matter is to do running and later sprint running. Don't be a sissy and put up with the temporary pain .... after a while you'll break into the confort zone and beasides the ride is the motivation! Thanks guys for all the good inputs! Be there and be safe! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

If snowboarding its your game I'll say get a free board http://www.freeboard.com Never tried but I have considered it for a while. I still get kicks out of my old longboard. It squeaks a lot, all the dogs are hating me, it had better days but I still like it. It goes well with the rest of me... Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

The main question of the non powered flight era is: How does a wing with a suspended weight underneath it finds the right balance between AoI, AoA(CL) and air speed? From Lift only point of view we could use these formula's to approximate the speed increase as we increase the WL. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3155098;#3155098 Two things might be worth mentioning: - as you increase WL via reducing wing surface (downsize) the air trajectory (L/D) will only get worse and your wing will fly at a higher angle of attack. -> easier to stall! - as you increase the WL via weight bearing the L/D, AoA & AoI might remain the same .. (not sure about it but I can't prove the opposite) so the formula for speed V2 = V1 * sqrt (WL2/WL1) might be correct. take it with a grain of salt ... or weed ... ... yeah I know ... yawn .... Will youtube put people off Tandem jumps.
d123 replied to speedy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Speedy, could you explain us what exactly went wrong with the tandem landing? Most of the tandem landings that I see, they all do a low turn (around the same altitude as this guy) to get some speed and they level out at half brakes.... This guy flare seems to be at half brake 2 sec before impact and he finish the flare about 1 sec before impact ... but he still lands hard ... like there's no flare in the canopy. He doesn't seems to be way behind the canopy (the pendulum effect). Down drafts? Just trying to learn something ... Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls! -

I see what you mean! I will feel exactly the same with no hardware. I guess from here with age it will only get worse .... how typical for life Anyway, thanks for your time and for the explanations. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
