First of all, what is this IVF you are referring to? Never heard of it - and I've been flying professionaly for almost 8 years.. Second, you CAN file and fly a flight plan from "point A" to "point A".. Every instrument rated pilot has probably done this at one time or another - usually during training flights.. If you want to take off from DED, climb to 15,000ft, and return to DED - you file a flight plan from DED, to DED, with a routing of DIRECT.. Controllers will understand this as a local flight, and likely just provide vectors during the climb, then clear the aircraft for a visual approach during the descent.. This will most likely not be allowed by most ATC facilities just to allow jump planes to fly.. Mike

I think that everybody - regardless of religion, race, sex, etc. - sees this the same way....utterly and completely sickening.. I have never had any respect for either of those guys due to their extreme views - and now I don't think I'll be able to even see their faces without getting ill.. Mike

Who knows for sure, but my guess is no skydiving until they release VFR flights.. While there is no specific regulation that prohibits jump planes from filing and flying IFR flight plans(which is what they do on high altitude jumps - at or above 18,000MSL) for skydiving operations, it is not likely that ATC will allow it at this time.. Actually, if you have an airplane with a good autopilot, that is linked to a GPS, you can make it fly waypoint to waypoint.. If your autopilot has a VNAV function(which is available for most GA airplanes), you can make it fly specific altitudes/profiles as well.. It would not be easy or cheap, but it's possible.. Mike

I seriously doubt it.. This would cause a serious increase in workload for an already overloaded ATC system.. Possible, but highly unlikely.. Or, somebody could fill a van with the same thing, point it towards their target, put a brick on the gas pedal and lock the steering wheel in place, and get out.. Or they could park it in a garage under the target.. Or they could just drive the thing in and detonate.. Which situation do you think more likely? I don't think they used airliners because they thought it was the only thing capable of inflicting the damage they wanted to cause - but more because they were trying to make a statement.. Mike

I woke up, turned on the TV to CNN, and started to get ready to go to the airport and fly my airplane(ok, so it's not my airplane - it belongs to my company) to NYC.. I was brushing my teeth when I really started listening to the TV.. They were talking about the terrorist attacks.....I thought to myself, "what the hell are they talking about?"... I walked back to the TV in time to see the first tower collapse.. Since they grounded all airplanes shortly after, I didn't have to go to the airport - and I was glued to the TV for hours.. Mike

Dude....you have WAAAAY too much free time.. On those non-jumping days, you either need to find another hobby you can do in foul weather, or you need to spend more time drinking and less time filming.. Mike

My home DZ is Skydive Space Center in Titusville, FL.. Also, I jump at Deland, FL, and Sebastian, FL.. I have jumped, at one time or another, at about 15 different DZ's.. Mike

I strongly disagree.. I have jumped a pull-out with gloves on, without gloves on, and in extremely cold(25-30 degrees on the ground) weather - never had a problem.. Your experienced friend that turned you away from pull out is just one opinion.. I have never had a problem grabbing the wrong thing on a pull out.. Granted - I don't have all that many jumps on pull outs - but I know guys that have been jumping pull out for years, and have thousands of jumps on 'em in all conditions without a problem.. Mike

Oh, and there have been multiple bomb threats in the NYC and Washington DC area.. The Capitol was one, LaGuardia Airport was another, and there have reportedly been several more - but I didn't hear where.. I'm sure these are not related to the terrorist attacks - but more than likely people that saw this as a good opportunity to get their sick, twisted ass kicks.. Mike

There were 2 more attempted hijackings tonight at NYC area airports.. One flight was bound for LAX.. Several more people were arrested for trying to get into the concourse with fake ID badges saying that they were pilots.. Settle in, folks - I think we're in for quite a wave of attempted(hopefully not successful) hijackings and terrorist attacks.. Mike
