  1. Yes - since he is only 12, he is exempt....therefore, YOU must buy the case of beer and take it to the DZ.. Sorry man, but the rules are the rules!
  2. That will depend on the type of aircraft.. For anything more than about a 100-150 mile flight, 15,000ft is WAY too low.. Jet engines are not very efficient at low altitudes.. A fuel burn at 15,000ft could easily be two to three times what it would be at 35,000ft - AND the airplane would be going slower at the lower altitude.. Most airliners cruise at FL310, FL330, FL350, FL370, FL390, and FL410.. FL means Flight Level, and add two zeros to the end of the FL to get the altitude(such as FL310=31,000ft).. These are typically the best altitudes for the fuel burn/speed combination.. The altitude used will depend on the length of the flight.. The higher you go, the less fuel a jet engine uses - but the less thrust it creates.. Climbing from Sea Level to FL310 could take 15 minutes, but climbing from FL310 to FL410 could take another 15-20 minutes due to lower thrust at higher altitudes, resulting in slower climb rates.. Clear as mud?! Mike
  3. Don't worry - it was likely a standard intercept and identify mission.. It's more a show of force rather than actually to identify the aircraft - the controllers already know who it is.. It's a deterrent.. As for the altitude....if they were really that low(large jets often look lower than they really are), they were in the intial climb or the final descent.. Jet engines are extremely inefficient at low altitudes, and do not normally operate there for long periods.. Mike
  4. What exactly is your point? If you're referring to the fact that they can't get the supplies from other parts of the country to NYC area - you're wrong.. Certain medivac flights are being allowed.. A friend of mine took blood and first aid supplies from California to NYC today in his cargo plane.. Flights such as this are still taking place - they just have to get individual approval from the FAA on a per case basis.. Passenger and standard cargo transport is not being allowed.. Mike
  5. Well, this would be a case where personal judgement comes into play.. In the past when I have given blood, I had no problem flying or jumping within 24 hours.. Maybe I have a higher tolerance when it comes to oxygyn deprivation due to altitude.. Hanging out at 15,000ft doing multiple go arounds has never affected me......but then again, I spend a lot of my time at altitudes over 7,000ft.. Mike
  6. Ahh, ok... I missed the "Monday Night" in your original post.. I thought it was Tues morn that you went.. Guess I should've read the original message more carefully..
  7. Cool! Congrats! Now get your A license, get some belly flying experience, then come to the REAL fun.....FREEFLYING AND CREW!
  8. Your best bet is to talk to some experienced freeflyers at your DZ.. They will be able to help you the most.. Also, check out this website.. http://www.public.iastate.edu/~zeppelin/ Mike
  9. I've given blood on many jumps, and made the next load too.. No ill effects.. Oh, wait a sec....you're talking about a different kind of giving blood....nevermind.. Honestly, the FAA recommends that pilots not give blood within 24 before flying.. I think that 24 hours would be sufficient for skydivers, too.. Mike
  10. Uh.. I don't see the humor in that.. How the hell else am I supposed to print the damn screen?! Mike
  11. Damn....talk about lucky.. Did you actually make it all the way to San Diego - or were you guys forced to land somewhere in between? Mike
  12. I have a Talon 2(DOM Aug 2000) that has a very small amount of bridle exposed between the BOC and the right flap - I would estimate about 1/2".. I'm not at home, so I can't measure the actual amount.. I have never had a problem freeflying with this, and I have checked videos that others have taken when you can see the bridle - and I have never seen it move.. I make sure that the bridle is laying as flat as possible on the container, and tuck it snugly into the flap so that it will not pull out easily.. I have often wondered if there is a way I can add a flap just to be sure that there is no bridle exposed, but have not ever heard of a way.. Mike
  13. Don't ask me.....I don't even know how to flat pack! I was taught long ago, but haven't used it in years.. I have found that all the canopies I have packed were pretty easy to pro-pack.. Well, except for the time I tried to pro-pack that round......I never could figure out which lines were which.. Mike
  14. Jeez.....get a room you two! Oh, and I think Remi is requesting that you get a webcam, too.. The sick freak.. Mike
  15. While many may think that Macauley's post was totally tasteless, just remember - this affects different people in different ways.. I'm not saying that I agree with what he did, and I personally would not have posted something like that, but give the guy a break.. I have to admit - I thought it was kind of a tasteless picture, but then again, I got a chuckle out of it.. No, not at the death and carnage going on in the background.. Some people are too uptight, and think that anybody that feels different than they do is a sicko.....well, I've got news for ya.. Not everybody is like you.. Mike
  16. Keep posting....I want to see what the next title is.. Mike
  17. I'm not allowed to give blood within 24 hours before flying.....so when the FAA announced yesterday that they were not going to open the airspace until at least noon(about 24 hours away at that point), I went to donate.. Unfortunately, I was told I don't qualify due to several countries I have visited in the past year.. Mike
  18. It is definitely your right.. Your experience and opinion should be voiced.. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.. Mike
  19. I feel that the current system works well.. I normally fly a left hand pattern, but if I see that there is a conflict(such as a bunch of slower canopies on a left pattern), I will adjust accordingly.. If that means a right hand pattern, fine.. If it means a much wider pattern, and making a straight in landing rather than my normal, fine.. If it means landing in another area entirely, that's fine too.. I will not compromise safety(mine or anybody elses) just so that I can make my normal approach.. I think most people making high performance landings feel the same.. Mike
  20. But at least us freeflyers can get out of the airplane without slamming into the door and deploying our reserve... Mike
  21. Exactly! Just as there are American terrorists(McVeigh comes to mind), there are terrorists from other ethnic backgrounds and religions that don't represent the entire group.. Don't point the finger at the group as a whole - but at the few that are really the problem.. Mike
  22. If this is in response to my arab post, it was not serious - it was extremely sarcastic, and meant to make Spectre look like the ass he is.. Mike
  23. So far, there have been 4 confirmed aircraft that were hijacked and crashed. American Airlines Flight 11 Boston to Los Angeles Boeing 767-200 American Airlines Flight 77 Washington Dulles International to Los Angeles Type unknown Possibly a Boeing 757 United Airlines Flight 175 Boston to Los Angeles Boeing 767 United Airlines Flight 93 Newark, NJ to San Francisco Boeing 757-200 I have heard various stories on the news as to which airplanes crashed where.. There are also reports of another airplane that crashed somewhere near Pittsburgh, PA.. Some reports have said that it was one of the above listed, others have said that it is a different aircraft.. Mike

    Deland?!

That's why I pack in the hangar now - not in the covered packing area outside.. I can't stand having all that damn sand all over me and my gear.. Mike
  25. As most have stated, it is their responsibility to send you the jumpsuit.. They received your payment, they lost it when her purse was stolen, it is their loss.. Tell us who it is so that we can get that persons side of the story, or never deal with them.. Mike
