  1. No, minimum age for possession is 18. Minimum age to purchase from a dealer or to purchase ammunition from a dealer is 21. Sorry my bad, I ment purchase. Possession age and conditions varies from state to state. Utah allows possession at age 16 while at a range. A subtle difference, but it's there. And most states have a minimum age of 21 for a carry permit.
  2. I don't know what happened to it but damn, I need a hot cocoa and my slippers. PSA "Have you hugged your trees today?"
  3. I've had rigs with them, the only benefit I saw is you won't have a pilot-chute in tow and it does make the rig smoother...of course I've never had a pilotchute in tow with a throw-out either. I thought about getting one on a rig I ordered a year back but read some logical comments against by Bill Booth and decided to go with a 'standard' throw-out. Im very interested in what Bill had to say. Would you elaborate.
  4. Had a conversation with MEL (masterrigger1) today. He brought this very topic up. His answer to the question was it probably is not allowed without a repack. If I recall correctly, the reasoning is based on the way the military does packjobs which is the foundation for all rigging today. Anytime a rig is opened it must be inspected and packed per instructions. No short cuts and the job must be a continuous process. In other words, you don't start the pack job and then decide part way through you'll fininsh it tomorrow. With that reasoning, when the container is opened you can't go back and reclose it without going through the entire process. MEL did mention this would be a topic for discussion at PIA. If you want to get more info in this I suggest you message MEL and get him in on this thread.
  5. I've never seen this happen. I would like to see a pic
  6. How do you rationalize disarming people that are willing to go through the requirements to get a CHL, but not doing anything about people who illegally carry? So just because you alone don't like something it should be illegal? How about all of those that think skydiving should be illegal? I've see discussion here referring to the age requirement for possession of a handgun. 21 years of age is the minimum by Federal Regulations and all states comply. As far as carrying a concealed handgun is concered it is up to state law to establish those requirements. Since the late 1980s I've see over 30 states have enacted laws to allow the carrying of concealed handgun. There is much debate over the issue but I have discovered a constant tendency. Those who oppose it have never been able to refute the evidence or logic that shows we are safer when we are armed.
  7. I was skydiving from 76 to 83, just before my first kid was born. Gave it up until October 2006. I did it because I wanted to focus on family, not saying that those who don't give it are not. It's just that I know myself and being able to come out only on occasion to make 4 or 5 jumps just did not appeal to me. I've made just over 700 skydives since coming back. I'm beginning to think I may be addicted.
  8. Ya mean like the one that I just re-packed yesterday thats sitting 5 feet from me? 26' lo-po too Oh that's cruel man.
  9. Got another one for ya'll Q: What did the Lord say to David Koresh (Branch Davidian) when he got to heaven? A: WELL DONE!
  10. Hi Muffie, welcome to the adventure. Sounds like you've got it bad. Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like you had to take some time off from you AFF so it's smart that your doing the tunnel time. It will help you keep you basic body position skill up to snuff. Anyway, glad you jumped in with all us.

  13. After reading this I'm really not surprised there are so many fatalities in this sport. When you're about to get killed please let us know. I guess you'd have enought time to notice it, connect to internet and post the message prior the impact. Unless I missed it, I dont believe he states what altitude that he cut away. How do you know he was flirting with death? Perhaps he cut away at 4,500 feet, would you still have a problem with him then? Everybody is so quick to chastise everybody else, even when all the facts aren't known. I'm entertained that Alex didn't pull his ripcord, it sounds like something I would do, given the altitude. Alex: From what I understand you are not the first. In fact, I think you are one of the many and I'm certain that UPT knows it too. I'm not sold on today's marketing machine: MARD-mania. There are too many compromises with what is currently available on the market. I do believe that the skyhook (and similar devices) will help reduce the number of low-pull fatalities and I believe they will accomplish that, not by being a MARD, but by getting more people to jump with a standard RSL. I have to agree that a lot of the comments I've read are chastisement without all the facts. I have 7 cutaways with a skyhook system. 1 was on an intentional cutaway rig from UPT to demo the system. I cutaway at 2800 feet with the intentional system and did not pull the ripcord so I could watch the system in action. I also had 2 cutaways on my Javelin with Skyhook at 2000 from a main with a broken steering line. I did have my hand on the ripcord in all three instances and was ready to pull it had I not seen the reserve deploying. I also have 4 skyhook cutaways on Sigma Tandems. In those instances I did pull the reserve rigcord approximately 1-2 seconds after the cutaway regardless of what I saw. I was trained to execute specific emergency precedures by the UPT/ USPA I/E and I followed them. I was trained to not rely on the SkyHook system to activate the reserve. Someone might argue I was relying on the Skyhook tto activate my reserve in the first 3 instances. I say I was not. I was relying on what I could visually vvarify. I watched the entire deployment sequence. Pilot chute extracting the freebag, lines depolying, bag opening, canopy out, canopy inflated. It is my opinion that the term "relying" on a system, such as sky hook, rsl, AAD, etc. means making an assumption that it is going to work. I visually varified the reserve depolyment was taking place within 1 second of cutaway. Had I not seen it occuring I would have activated it with the ripcord within 1-2 seconds. Emergency preceedures are standardized so that we leave nothing to chance. I submit that seeing the reserve deploying after a cutaway but before pulling the reserve ripcord is not leaving anything to chance.
  14. I bet he wishes he had a life just like yours. Tense. Are you the official “all grown up” Sheriff? Sparky[/reply Wait........I hear a noise outside.........it looks like a SWAT Team surrounding my house........ARRRGG......It's the rainbow police.......I'm goin for the panic room.....help me momma.
  15. What? Get a life! If you think that the colours of your canopy, jumpsuit, car or even your clothes define anything at all about your sexuality or other lifestyle choices, then you have some growing up to do! The rainbow may have been co-opted to signify gay and lesbian events in more recent years, but it's also been used throughout history for a wide range of things. The bottom line is that you are not defined by the colours of your canopy, so get over it and jump! Touched a nerve, did he? Relax....Breath.....It's was a joke. Really? Hmmm - I thought it was mor Macbethian - you know, te whole Me thinks thou dost protest too much. . . thing. I'll roll with that

  17. THAT'S really BAD advise. No offence intended, but until YOU are a well qualified and current INSTRUCTOR, please do yourself and the sport a favor and refrain from giving instructional advise. Right On Brother
  18. A Sabre 1 190 of course. Funny thing was the opening didnt feel all that hard. My buddy on that jump watched my deployment and told me the canopy was coming out of the bag as it left the packtray. When we found the main it had 9 broken lines on the left side. Same thing happened to my steering line. Jump #1 on a new cobalt. It broke about a foot below the cascade but the opening wasnt hard. Weird shit happens sometimes.
  19. What canopy were you jumping. I've had a broken steering line a couple times but nothing like you had.
  20. I jump Strongs as well. I've worked many weekends when we're turning load after load. I look at the rig before I put it on but I have to be honest and say that even though i've looked, I've found myself wondering if I really "looked" and did not just go through the motions. Thanks for sharing. I know I will be more attentive when I do gear checks. Have fun, Be safe.
  21. Yes, I have. Back in 1976. Dumped at 2000 Streamer on a Papillion Round Main. Cutaway with capewells, deployed 24' Flat Round Reserve . Nothing ever hurt so good.
  22. Welcome Bro. Your getting a triple benefit. Your getting healthier, getting into the most exciting sport in the world and your gonna make some awesome lifelong friends along the way.
  23. I wouldn't really agree with that. Its a BASE jump, not fall. Id rather slip and have a rope stop me after a few feet than fall off with a BASE rig. Guy wires, lower platforms, no seperation... fuck that. It was a joke dude.
