  4. I think the question should be. Should I do it? If the canopy is just to big to fit the rig so it closes properly, then you are asking for trouble.
  5. Congrats man. In 2009 I went to Elsinore to earn my Tandem Rating. It is a great place with some fantastic people. You're going to have a great time. Don't worry about being a broke college student. When push comes to shove, a car makes a great home.
  6. QuoteI am not a fan of open carry; just tells the bad guys who to aim at first.....
  7. The one that really pisses me off is when I call someone and they answer the phone "Yea"
  8. Now the government wants to impose a skydiving tax. We are not the land of the free, we're the land of the fee.
  9. King is a moderate Republican from a state with some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. He has often worked with Bloomberg on gun issues. It remains to be seen whether any of his fellow Republicans would sign on to such a bill. Remember, the new GOP-led House is composed of many members that have strong pro-gun ratings from the National Rifle Association. Personally, I think he's an idiot. +1 on the idiot. Maybe they should ban mental illness instead. It would have the same effect as banning carrying a gun within 1000' of a politician or judge as well as possessing a hi capacity magazine.
  10. That's right, folks; the website authors skipped the spell-checker for all the world to see. Defibulators are a medical device used for fixing broken lower legs. I thought they were used for amputating them. So radiators must be for amputating arms? I thought Radiators were small creatures that consume Radii. I know. But I couldn't resist.
  11. Yep, they are ok in the military. And, they have a spiffy new uniform to boot
  12. QuoteAs an agnostic I do believe in "Freedom of Religion" where people are allowed to practice their religious beliefs free from being persecuted by others. But I also believe in "Freedom from Religion" where people keep their religious beliefs to themselves. I see the two "Freedoms", as being in direct conflict with one another. Some peoples religion requires they attempt to share their faith with others. How can one do that and keep their beliefs to themselves?
  13. There is some varied experiences here and there are varied approaches to landing in winds. A couple years ago I downsized to a 150. I had to change my technique. Something you might want to consider, since your new, is taking a canopy piloting course. Both Brian Germain and Scott Miller are good instructors among others. Sorry, I'm straying off point here a bit but I think this needs to be said. One last thing you might consider. When the winds are +15, stay on the ground near the landing area and watch others as they land. I don't go up when the winds are 15+ When I started doing tandems I continued to follow this personal rule. The DZO knew I was new and tried to push me into doing them when the winds were 20+ but I stood my ground. I caught a lot of flack for it and saw some TIs nearly pay a heavy price for the decision. But hey, the way I looked at it was, if I jump in these winds are they going to get worse while I'm climbing to altitude? What if something goes wrong and I have to land off under a reserve. Just some things to consider.
  14. I think the point there is we now have a definition that is based on how someone 'takes' it, absolutely regardless of the intent of the speaker and - I think that's a HUGE mistake - it allows for abuse when the claims are about money or position or power. sure the grey areas are about how to determine the "intent" of the claimant and the defendant, and there's no cut and dry way to work that for those of you with no mind reading capabilities..... (Though we sure have a lot here in SC that claim it) I've been following this discussion and I think you hit the nail on the head. Too many people think they have the gift of mind reading.

  16. And all the Psychos they arrest are fucking crazy. Oh shit... this is reminding me of the "shitty" thread. The "Shitty" thread? I haven't heard the "poop" on that one.
  17. Skyrider, I have to say that this is one of the most interesting thread I've read here. I did take the time to read this assessment of the roots of political correctness carefully. I thought it was a well thought out analysis. If you were to post some footnotes for sources it would give it more credibility. One of the negative results of the socialist mindset is abdication of personal responsibility. They default to the "Don't worry, let uncle bureaucrat do that for you" I'm not in the least suprised at some of the comments here. There are people that are lazy or don't care enough to actually think critically, and there are those that do Those that don't seem to have been conditioned to just accept the status quo and damn the results. To your point though. I agree that what is happening to our society via political correctness is very distructive. You don't need footnotes to know that.
  18. Glad she got home. Sounds like she needs to be in a super max facility.

    Finally!!!

I saw this post and couldn't help but say AMEN! I lost my mother to cancer in 1972. She was 49 and I was 14. I don't know you but I certainly can sense your deep joy and I am sincerely happy for you and your family. Every Day is a Blessing.
  21. The same thing happened to me 6 years ago. The cat was a stray. No know owners, shelter would not take it. They said they "had no room." Ahem....right. So I kept her. My dog and other cat didn't like the addition at first. A few months later found the Dog, and both cats sleeping curled up together in a heap. I suppose you could say made the adjustment. EDIT******************* You need another selection for the poll. Keep inside till owner is located.
  22. Meanwhile, anyone have an opinion of Cops? Assholes or Saviors? I was a firefighter for 25 years and I worked along side many cops. I've had several "meetings" with them over the years, usually a traffic stop. The majority of the time they were prefessional, decent people. I do recall one where the guy was totally a dick. He was so bad that the other cops I knew said he was an asshole who would give his mother a ticket. One very memorable experience I had was in 1977. Me and two friends had the "munchies" one evening so we drove to Wendy's to ease our cravings. I got pulled by an unmarked car. The officer was a detective. He checked my DL and registration, asked what we were doing, etc. I was polite and respectful. He was too. He asked to look in the trunk. No prob. I popped it. He said "What is that?" while looking at my new skydiving rig. I told him. He was like, cool! Mind if I look in the car. My asshole puckerd up tight. I hope he doesn't look under the front seat. He looked under the seats, in the glove box. Then said, "reason I stopped you is theres been a series of burglaries in this area and your car matched the description. Then he sent us on our way. So, for this cop, he was either super cool, or he didn't see the baggie under my seat.
