California ??? How the hell do you jump in that heat ?? Not to mention how the hell do you pack in that heat ??? I can't stand Canadian summers for packing chutes, I couldn't even imagine California or ARIZONA!! I can't say anything bad about Canada for jumping. The seasons leave a bit to be desired but its not all that bad to get a winter break because it gives me that time to reconnect with the family and Whuffo friends that I don't get to see for 10 months of the year. It also lets you "miss" skydiving and keeps you wanting. As for your jumpsuit . . . thats actually quite SHNAZZY. I wouldn't put it in the same category as some of the doozies in this thread. Come on, do you really need to ask such a question?? Every American knows that the moment you cross the border, there is a frozen and vast tundra. We live up here in igloos and ride dogsleds to work every morning. Hell we take baths in ice pools on frozen lakes!! You think we can't handle a little winter skydiving ?? Ok, seriously now.... I must admit, winter jumping up here is only for the hardcore. I did a jump last February from 10,5 and it was -15F on the ground (-26C). Our plane thermometers werent functioning but you can imagine how cold it was in freefall. Even with good goggles on with a balaclava, my eyes were watering in freefall under properly sealed goggles. My hands were so cold I couldn't pack for an hour after landing.... It was freaking AMAZING!!!! I love it .... its a different experience, grant you, but a fun one nonetheless. Not a jab here but ..... this is lazy shopping. The right rig won't find you, you have to find it . There are tons of 150/170 rigs on the classified's right now. You just have to put forth some effort. Its time-consuming but very rewarding once that rig is in your hands. But why the big cloak and dagger conspiracy treatment involving manifest?? These "experienced regulars" should have done the responsible thing and approached jraf to tell him that their dz operates a little differently, perhaps he can adhere to their rules. Insead they whisper behind his back and involve manifest?? This is not a very good tight-knit skydiving community mentality. This could all have been avoided if people just talked more, whats the big deal? Doesn't space center advertise regular 18000 king air trips ?? I guess your still only getting a 14000 foot jump? Also, manifest is a hard job no doubt, my DZ can't even keep a manifestor for a whole season, and yes it is a service provider-to-customer relationship technically, but this is still skydiving people, we shouldn't compare this sport to other businesses. We should respect each other in the skydiving community, there aren't that many of us around, its not hard to keep a family mentality, even at other DZ's. LESS ARGUING....MORE BEER !! Gentlemen, lets be honest, after 150 jumps, I have no skill. Basically I've just been lucky to have not been hurt yet. I understand what you two are saying, and it makes perfect sense for the most part, but I enjoy challenging myself and I do intend to become the best canopy pilot I can be. Thats going to involve some risk and IMO flying a Spectre or Sabre 150 is relatively conservative risk taking. I have spoken with senior jumpers on my DZ and I have chosen a 150 to be the canopy that I will spend the longest time on before moving down again, if ever. Safety first!! Well then maybe the answer to this "conundrum" is simpler than we think. We are all repsonsible for the drop in renewals or upgrades after A license. The whole skydiving community should nurture the lower jumpers well into the next phases. If you train jumpers and guide them along until they get their A and then leave them out to dry after that, OF COURSE the sport will suck to them. Anyone interested in boosting the sport of skydiving should be more actively involved in participation and mentoring of new jumpers past their 100th jump. Thats just my opinion of course. Wow....I never imagined there would be that many people who jump from a plane 100 times and realize that the sport is not for them. Im not sure I buy that argument at all. I fully agree with not upgrading your license if you have no interest in the privelages of that license, but to claim that there are many jumpers who lose their need for the sky at around 100 jumps is arguable. This sport just keeps you wanting, if you are getting bored, you must be jumping solo a lot. I just did my first 10 way (I know -) and it was awesome. I also did my first CRW dock and I landed it docked (I know -), and it was amazing. Now I want to do a 20 way and a CRW downplane!! The possibilities are endless, just go out and find them. Not trying to bash here, I just don't think your statement was correct in explaining the drop in renewals.
