Little Evidence Jesus Died on a Cross, Says Scholar
maadmax replied to 3331's topic in Speakers Corner
More silliness, besides the fact that the Bible mentions Jesus' death on the cross in many passages: Matt 27:32, Matt 27:40 & 42, Mark 15:21 & 30, Luke 23:26, John 19:17,19, 25, & 31 etc. The real significance of the cross is that Jesus died for the sins of the world and by believing in Him we can have a personal relationship with God and spend eternity with Him, starting right now. -
Good point! "Being knowledgeable in the public understanding of science does not qualify one to deliver Truth to the public. The two are not the same." Not bad for an atheist. So that must mean when scientists try to translate their current understanding of science into a grand unified reality they are little different from a religion.

[1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness" 1 Corinthians 3:10-23 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. +1

And it is also ironic how the so called intellectually elite will take an inane non-event and run with it, as long as they can concoct some disparaging remarks concerning Christianity. Yep, preschoolers definitely have us beat.

Do you not find it a bit coincidental, that of all the spiritual concepts that you tested, you choose Christianity? Out of all of the many choices you have, you choose the religion that is very likely the one that you were raised with. For lack of a better word, you were indoctrinated with Christianity, and so, like the vast majority of people around the world, you have the same superstitions of your parents. That is true for religion. I am not religious and I usually agree with most of the atheists on here concerning religious activity. A personal dynamic relationship with God is a transforming edifying experience that grows form within. Religion is something that is imposed from without. I do not practice the religion that I was raised in.

--Observing what works for other people and putting it to use yourself. That's science right there. (Though I think that belief in a god only works if one actually believes, Quite right, when one steps onto the spiritual playing field through faith, acquiring spiritual truth is much like the scientific method. Spiritual concepts are tested and incorporated into ones reality if they are powerful and effective or they are rejected if proven false.

So we're supposed to believe that your hallucinations are evidence of reality? My spiritual perceptions are personal and probably have little value to anyone else. But if you perceive a void in your life and by chance see someone who has that void filled. Their source of strength is available to you.

Reproducing simple science experiments is a long cry away from piecing together eternity and the moral structure of the universe.

Wow, you sound like you have reality all figured out. I would like to see what your life would look like if you excluded all knowledge you have acquired by using faith , but instead based every decision and action you made on personally derived scientifically proven facts only. And you, of course, don't need any faith to believe what the scientists are telling you is correct do you? The facts put forth by science seem to change quite often. Which is good. But a reality based on these ever changing facts requires and ever changing faith. ...

Because when you get down to it, reality is all that we will ever have. Faith has nothing to do with reality. Reality (unlike superstitions) is something that even when you stop beleiving in it, does not go away. Wow, you sound like you have reality all figured out. I would like to see what your life would look like if you excluded all knowledge you have acquired by using faith , but instead based every decision and action you made on personally derived facts only. ...

Which God would that be? There are thousands to choose from. I can sympathize with your dilemma. But in my case it was easy, it was the God that chose me.

[ Faith is belief based on NO EVIDENCE. There is good evidence in support of all the beliefs described above. OTOH, religious beliefs are based on no evidence whatsoever. Your religious beliefs have no more foundation in evidence than belief in Zeus, Thor, or the FSM. Why is the search for a faith based reality such a big part of so many peoples lives? The evidence is obvious once one realizes the void in their life and then experiences the fulfillment of God. Repeat your faith based mantra all you like, science will never meet the needs of the spirit, only God can do that. ...

Did Bush Jr just admit to committing war crimes?
maadmax replied to riddler's topic in Speakers Corner
Well we have CERTAINLY lost the moral highground we used to have the last time we were off killing thousands of chinese and they were torturing our GI's. Have you noticed that to. The last time we won a war, we fought to win it, what ever it took. Now we see how long we can string it out and worry about what the terrorists think and if they are offended. -

Past , Present or Future, they will just slowly cut their heads off , video it, and put it on the internet so you can watch. --You really do believe that shit don't you. You are right, I just made all of it up. --Do you think that will be what the Chinese will do? Thats a tough one, I would venture to say , they would do what ever they wanted to do regardless of what a bunch of liberals thought they should do. ... -
Did Bush Jr just admit to committing war crimes?
maadmax replied to riddler's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, but even the dictators of SOuth America who kill thousands, do not get brought to justice until they are old and frail. If they do at all. It is a sad state of our country when someone can stand up and say they violated some statue, and not have anyone do anything about it. Pol Pot, another one. house arrest basically for killing hundreds of thousands of people. We torture, we will pay the price, but GWB and Chaney will not - you can bet on it. Just sign another document in the White House to say that it's OK if we do it and we do not have to follow the rules. Look at how many people went after Clinton when he lied about a blowjob..... We start wars and no one does fuck all - shame on ALL the Congress and Senate for not acting on this with some fucking balls. So please do tell, what is the "Politically Correct" way to maim and kill. Should we disband our military? Does one individual's comfort outweigh the rights of many innocent to live unmolested? History appears to let "Justice" be defined by the victor. ... -

Good video, as the critical mass of ignorance & self deification increases the unimaginable becomes normalcy.

I think the the theory of random chance is indisputable. " I have no idea how I got here but the only way it could have happened is by purely random circumstances. I have no idea how the laws of physics were established but it must of been through some random process. O , and it occurred over billions of years which makes absolutely anything possible. Cause I don't believe in anything I can't see so there fore it don't exist. And the fool in this video is proof that God had nothing to do with creation, because , well he's dumb. ...

You really believe that if he had the ability to choose who he was attracted to, he would choose men? Especially considering how many people are just like you, people who label his attraction as a "choice", so they can condemn and expel him? Tell us again, when you "chose" to be attracted to women? The date, or year, or period of your life when you made that "choice"? Everybody living has desires and or obsessive cravings to deviate form acceptable behavior. Does the craving legitimize the behavior? Or do we just need a certain number of people all wanting the same thing to make the behavior acceptable? Or maybe we can simply it by saying, any behavior resulting from the random resequencing or mutation of genetic material will be considered acceptable.

Assuming that the transfigured Christ is still male just as He was on Earth, I figured a third of the Trinity is still male... If, we use the professor's method that figure would be even less...I think. I got ya. I was thinking more along the lines of Gal 3:27 & 28 . "For all you who are baptized into Christ ... there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." ...
-
Well, we do have to remember that God is 33% male... How do you figure that?
-
Any reason it has to be a "He" could it not be a "She" besides aren't women in some ways more compassionate than men are. Yes, all of the above. I will have to admit referring to a sexless God as "he" is a failing in the english language. I was just following conventional grammatical usage. I would prefer a more accurate term. What would you suggest?

--Will Christ keep you out of jail if you kill someone? Keep people from losing trust in you when you lie to them? Keep your spouse from leaving you when you cheat on her? Keep your body from deteriorating when you abuse it with drugs? No. But He can heal the spiritual damage that causes a person to be so blind. --Interestingly, most of the consequences that happen while we're alive are things that encourage us to generally be good people. And I would hope that if a god did exist, that it would be more concerned with us being good people than with us accepting it as our savior. The God that I know wants us to love one another. But since most of us have trouble getting past self love, He has provided a way. ...
-
OK. So atheists accept responsibility for their actions; the religious types are saved from responsibility for their actions. (Which of course is exactly the opposite of what you said a few posts back.) I doubt we will agree on what I am saying. It is just that we are responsible for the consequences of our action, either good or bad . God has provided a way for the consequences created by our evil deeds,to be absorbed by someone else, namely Christ. Left unchallenged the energy of evil grows by feeding on itself and is very destructive, both in this life and the one to come.

Seeing how there is not one shred of evidence to support this, it seems pretty silly to think this is remotely true. Well, when a person's dysfunctional life has been transformed by the message of Christ, and they are able to see Christ for who He is, there is plenty of evidence.
