Yep, close to 2000 years and going strong! And how long has man been here? not to mention other life? Last guess, first life 3.5 billion years on this planet. Homospaien spaien 200,000 years. New Covenant between God and man , a little shy of 2000 years. ...

but you've only indicated what the intention of the alleged sacrifice was, not what the actual sacrifice was. If Jebus was in fact god, than what would the big deal be for him to experience death as a human? If anything, he would return to his pimped out crib in heaven, no? Doesn't sound like much of a sacrifice to me. The sacrifice of Jesus, as I understand it, was metaphysical/spiritual. His work of neutralizing the sins of the world was completed prior to His physical death on the cross. He said "it is finished" prior to physically dieing. Physical death for Him was the same as for us. When a person exhausts their opportunities or completes their purpose, they die. Everyone alive still has a purpose and something to offer.

Sacrifices come in many shapes and sizes. The sacrifice Christ made was to neutralize the consequences of sin and remove the barrier between us and God. Availing us to the personal relationship God created us for. ...

How Many American Christians Are Really Atheist?
maadmax replied to skyrider's topic in Speakers Corner
I guess for the spiritual cowards who are afraid to live their faith Well, the important thing is that you've found a way to feel superior to people who believe differently than you do. That is one way of looking at it. But since I have dealt with my own cowardice many times in the development of my faith, I felt I was speaking from experience. -
How Many American Christians Are Really Atheist?
maadmax replied to skyrider's topic in Speakers Corner
I have noticed that and wondered myself. I guess for the spiritual cowards who are afraid to live their faith, it is their way of getting close to those who have found the passion and purpose God offers through His Son. Jesus addressed this when He said " No one after putting his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God." -
God has provided a miraculous completion for that which I have found incomplete in me. ...

Believing that knowledge can ever be an impediment - nice to see the mindset behind the incarceration of Gallileo is alive and well. Nope, pride is the impediment. And last I checked, pride was not against the law. So other than stunted spiritual development you won't have to worry about doing any hard time.

It's this kind of blind devotion to a mythology that is sad. No sadness required. Fulfillment of the relationship God created us for is a reason for great joy. Spiritual awareness is as dynamic as physical awareness.

Believing that intelligence is something bad is but one of the many crosses that you folk have to bear. Intelligence is not bad. Intelligence uncovers the ways of God through science. But when that knowledge is trumped up and used as the basis for dismissing God, it becomes a major impediment. Spiritual growth is squelched by such pride.

+1, Merry Christmas!!!! ( Even though if December 25th is His actual birth date, it is by coincidence. One thing is for sure He was born, solved the sin problem and restored us to God)

It's a logical extension of your argument, unless you contend that most jailable offenses actually aren't immoral. Assuming that atheists and the religious are equally aware of the possible temporal consequences of their actions, the hedonistic atheists you speak should surely be committing crimes at a much greater rate than the religious, but that simply isn't born out by any set of stats you can lay your hands on. Of course, it might be that atheists are just better at getting away with it, on average, we are supposed to be smarter Most atheists I meet are indeed very intelligent, which appears to be the particular cross that they have to bear. There is a morality that is not defined or enforced by the penal system. As Jesus said, it is not of this world. ...

And, once again, the prison demographics really support that argument, don't they? All those atheists breaking the law, doing whatever they want... Who is saying any one broke the law? Value systems of the spiritually aware are obviously not going to be the same for those who aren't.

now if you keep on you will get them all stirred up and they will have to change that to.

[Gnomes. Elfs. Unicorns. Pixies. Nymphs. Driads. Wizards. Witches. Every other imaginary being that has ever been used to explain a part of the world that people didn't understand. It is not the world that needs understanding, it is the struggle between good and evil that resides in all of us.
-
So you're saying there is no point to believe or follow something if you can't prove it? Not at all, atheism is a fascinating logical flow of thought that has an objective to justify the hedonistic self deified soul. Its premise is based on faith and totally lacks any scientific validation.

A well thought out response. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/12/19/a-holiday-message-from-ricky-gervais-why-im-an-atheist/ response = SSDD, If there wasn't a need for God, He wouldn't exist in our consciousness. Can't help but notice that the little diatribe is full of dogmatic statements for which there is absolutely no proof. atheism is just another belief system where the believer is god.

No it's not. Max implied that I had no sense of wonder. Well, he is the one that needs to invent things to wonder about. Kinda suggests that it's him who doesn't truly appreciate what's actually around him. I love Proximity Flying. Same here. As usual, we are talking about two different things. No doubt you have a good grasp on the physical, probably better than most. I am referring to the spiritual. There is no greater experience than to bask in God's love. As far as proximity flying, you guys can have it, but I do love the videos. ...

Sounds fine, until we see that your subtext reads "and in the mean time let's just make shit up". If there's no quack, no bill, no feathers and no webbed feet, there's probably no duck. And so say the blind and deaf to the wondrous world that surrounds them. We truly meet our destiny when we truly meet God.

Nope, it is in fact pretty much the exact opposite. In one case, we're simply imagining that things we know an awful lot about, physics and chemistry, continue to work in distant solar systems the same way that they do here. In the other, you're imagining that something completely different and seperate to anything that ayone has ever observed, exists. Or, the other obvious conclusion is that science still has a lot of data to collect before it can declare definitively what exists or doesn't exist.
-
No, that's just the prerequisite for becoming a stand-up comedian. True enough, but as you can see by the responses, it is a case where art imitates life.
-
Amusing, but the overall message is loud and clear. Prerequisite for becoming a believer in atheism, self-righteousness, consuming anger, depressed disillusioned view of reality devoid of hope. An unshakable belief that hedonism is the answer. Total ignorance of Gods Word as it pertains to our daily existence, or to anything for that matter. WOW, sign me up. ...

And please pick some other analogy so you might be a little more credible.
