  1. I'll be dammed, but I can't see what you people are talking about. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) AA #2069 ASA#33 POPS#8808 Swooo 1717
  2. I thought it might be in Howard White's basement.
  3. Does anyone know what became of the canopy used in the first jump? Did it survive into modern times? Are there photos of it anywhere? Also, does anyone know the exact location of the jump? The best I can come up with is "France". Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) 4. Yeah, and if they would have looked at the news, they'd have found out that the design dates from 2007! I don't think even the most Manchurian of Manchurian candidates would have / could have thought that far in advance and to that obscure a level. Sad, but I guess that's what you get when you have an entire generation raised on 3 second sound bites and bumper sticker philosophy. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. 5. Yes, I have a CX100. It's an outstanding video camera. But I still have the need for a separate still camera. Aligning the two in such a way that one doesn't get in the way of the other and so you can use them both effectively is a major pain in the ass. I get that skydiving is unique in that you need to capture stills and video at the same time and there is no take 2, but still cams that do video (like my T1i) and video cams that shoot still ( CX100) don't integrate the two in such a way as to give a good result. Yeah they shoot both but to do so on the fly, as it were, doesn't give good results. So, I was thinking that it must be nearly impossible to pull this off or some company would have done it. There are certainly enough action/sports shooters out there to justify such a project, I just think that it must be so hard that no one is willing to do it. I thought I'd look into why that is. 6. OK, care to give any details as to why it would be so hard? Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) AA #2069 ASA#33 POPS#8808 Swooo 1717
  7. Is it supposed to take four hours (so far)? This had BETTER be worth it. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) AA #2069 ASA#33 POPS#8808 Swooo 1717
  8. Ok, how hard would it be to produce a totally custom video and still setup from off the shelf parts? It seems that the way cameras are shaped is based more on tradition than function and that outside of the relationship if the lens and focal plane, nothing else has a location that can't be changed. I was thinking that someone with the proper knowledge could take existing components and construct a setup for any given propose. I mean would that really be so hard? 11. Spend the extra money and get a CX100. It's proven to handle jumping and gives a good image quality. Only downside IMNSHO is that it lacks a fire wire connection. USB is fine for SD, but for HD, it is painfully slow to transfer to the computer. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... 12. So, due to the second blizzard in a week AND the fact that even if we could get out of the complex, the main roads are still impassable. That means I'm bored. What cures boredom during a blizzard? Why YouTube, of course. Here's my dog, the biggest wimp in the doggie world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP5SrxbRRL8 Enjoy
  13. Accuracy in the media, who'd have thought?
  14. Possibly my biggest career mistake was going into the fire dept. The only advantage I got was that I was able to retire at the age of 46. Granted a broken 46, but 46 none the less. Wouldn't do it again though. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) The term "all that often." is the operative word(s) here. The public will never tolerate the kind of standards need to make millions of low altitude - high speed aircraft a plausible scenario. Yes and as a 26 year veteran of the Fire Dept, I know more than most that there are WAY many more people on the road who are unqualified than who are qualified. I mean really, take a look at what people drive on the road. The rigged up junk that somehow rolls down the way is just jaw dropping. Think of that kind of stupidity in the air (remember Truman from Fandango? Imagine that for real.) This should be rejected out of hand. technology or not. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. How? You can't fix stupid. They've been trying since the beginning of time. The general public is too stupid to handle this. The congress, all of them at all levels, are too stupid to handle this. It would be an unmitigated disaster. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... Unless heavily subsidized in price, it will be way too expensive for the average Joe, plus there is no way the airspace management system can handle the numbers. Can you imagine the lawyer ads on TV from the resulting crashes that will inevitably happen? Have you or a loved one suffered injury from falling airplane parts, then call Dewy, Cheatem & Howe for a free consultation! Don't let them rain down on you without paying! Call now! 21. The best pizza I've ever had is from a small family place called Reginas outside of Wash. D.C. When they first opened in '77, they had to hire translators to get from Sicilian Italian to English. I am a pizza junkie and have never been able to reproduce it or had anything else ever come close. Man, I miss that place. I haven't lived in the D.C. area for 27 years, so I don't know if it's still open. Given the way the area deteriorated in the early 90's, I'd bet not.
