  1. I would suggest that YOU read the post ramon. DAHH!! He did ask for restaurant suggestions somewhere up above. Anyway, I forgot that there is another really great place in SF. The Cliff House on Geary I think. Excellent food and ocean view! and as far as the other portions of the post, go for it!! Don't let these terrorist maniacs spoil your trip. Sounds like you're planning to go anyway.
  2. Zennie: Dont know if you'll get this before your trip, but here are a few suggestions for restaurants. There's Tadich Grill in SanFran, 240 California Street in the financial district. There's also some great places at the wharf and at Pier 39. If you go to Oakland, there's Kincaid's, Scott's and Yoshi's all at the Jack London Square. Great dining with view of the bay. San Fran has been foggy in the mornings, and we also have some light rain...perfect weather!! Enjoy your trip, you'll love it out here!
  3. Mark: How exciting that you trained with Neil at Davis! He's a great instructor as well as Stefano!! My canopy is rainbow, the 190...not sure what brand. You give me hope that I WILL land that puppy soon! And Kelli has some good advice too. Had I been on radio that day...I probably would have heard Stefano yell at me "FLARE!!" So, I'll suggest that they put me on radio again. Actually, that was my first solo without the radio. Thanks again everyone...great advice!
  4. Karen: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and glad you went to the doctor. You mentioned the flu shot the day before you had that experience on your dive. I have heard lots of weird things happening to people when they get the shot. Including getting the flu that it's supposed to prevent!! I think THAT had a lot to do your blacking out, along with the combination of those other factors. But of course, I'm not a doctor and you did the right thing to get yourself checked out! Hopefully I'll see you Saturday!
  5. Thanks Gary. I think I will try going back to where I flare too high, count 2 and then flare. Sounds logical to me. We can talk about it on the drive up and you can quiz me. And yes, Stefano was my JM. Hopefully he'll be there Saturday. Niell said that even if he isn't, they'll find someone to sign my card since we had to leave abruptly to get to ER : ) I thought for sure they were going to kick us out of there!! I did write in my skylog what I remembered about the dive...but I don't think I'll ever forget that one!! I still say that men seem to have a better depth perception than women, and that's why we have trouble!! Ok, that's all I have to say about that, I wont go there again!! LOL
  6. FallinWoman: I know what you mean about not being able to find the wine you love the best. I absolutely love Cuvaison (sp) Merlot, which I treat myself to occasionally when I make a trip to Costco. It's about $24 a bottle, but well worth it...soo smooth and not too bitter, and not too sweet. My last trip to Costco, about 2 weeks ago...they didn't have it anymore!! I think it's a Napa Valley winery, so that gives me a good excuse to head up there again! There's also V.Sattui in Napa, they have excellent cabs, about $14 a bottle I think.
  7. Karen: We need to talk g/f!! Thank you soooo much for the insight about the the flags & cornfield. Is it perhaps that women need something different than men to judge the flare time? Yes i do jump at Davis, I remember talking with you before. I would love to pick your brain if you don't mind. I think I'm getting the idea...but sounds like I'm having similar challenges as you did. Let me know if you'll be up on the 3rd...I'll be there at Davis about 8:30 or so. Terri
  8. Ya know, that's what I was doing before, half breaks, and probably too high. Last week, I brought the toggles all the way up...I guess that gives you more speed coming in, and then I didn't react in time to even do half breaks. I'll do half breaks again...see what happens, but you're right...I should be practicing at altitude, not when it's too late! Thanks Albatross!!
  9. Thanks Clay...I appreciate the advice. I don't look straight down, I was told that before. I was looking directly at my instructor, seemed like he was about 15 ft out when I realized I wasnt flaring yet. I like the "Oh Shit" advice! that's what I should have been saying at the time!! And true, practice makes perfect, or nearly anyway!! I also like the idea of looking sideways as was previously suggested. I may try that one too. Thanks again!
  10. LOL...My "bruised" pride is recovering nicely thank you! I'll be ready to go again on the 3rd...you still gonna be able to make it? That nurse didn't have much of a sense of humor!! :)
  11. I am having trouble landing my canopy. I have 8 jumps and almost done with AFF. I have good canopy control, my pattern is good, but I have trouble calculating when to flare. Several times I flared too soon. Last weekend, I started to flare but it was too late and I had a real nasty landing on my butt. Xrays showed no broken bones, thank god for that! I just can't seem to get the right spot to flare. Any suggestions?
  12. I haven't read everyone's responses yet...and there are many! but the thing that got me was that he (Ted) doesn't want to be tolerant of other cultures. In California...we have what's termed a "melting pot", at least what i remember. yes...english should be the preferred language in public settings. But we have so many different ethnicities, why cause won to die for the sake of being "American" ? I've never read any of Ted's previous editorials....and if he is as one-sided as he was this particular piece....put a parachute on the dude's back and PUSH HIM OUT THE DOOR!!! He seriously has no concept of co-mingling with other peoples....whether they be homeless, of a different race...et seq. However, he still wants the constitution to hold up the "right to bear arms"!! I don't have a problem with that...so long as they are not oozies or people killing machines!
  13. I would like to get a copy of her paper, once completed...if that's allowed. That would be very interesting reading material. Terri
  14. I skydive cuz i want to see what my limitations are....so far...i've found none!! : ) I also want to look the judge straight in the face & say "ya know...i really want to hurry along here with this shitty-ass waste my time-case management conference so that i can go jump with some with some REAL people!! J/K if any judges are lerking nearby!!
  15. Unfortunately, there are some people out there who think they are better than others, even though we are all doing the same thing. I experience the same crap in the legal field!! We all take the same frickin bar exam and what makes one law school better than the other! Same with jumping. We all want the same thing, basically, the thrill and the comradery. I've met some very nice and interesting people along the way and I will never forget those who have encouraged me, and guided me in this sport.
  16. I was watching our local Bay Area news and to my aerodynamic surprise, they featured our very own SkyDance in Davis with a cool team of skydivers doing some RW, (I think that's what it was : ) They were being judged by how many maneuvers they could make and the accuracy. I'm not sure what the event was, could be USPA, but they apparently won first place for doing the most maneuvers with precision! Right On!! I was so proud of these people...they did a great job! I don't even know their names...one guy is a pilot I think. I'm still in student status ; ) BTW...I just realized another thing I like about skydiving....the WHOOOOOSHHH sound when the jumpers go out!!! It's the sound of freedom in the air!!
  17. Ok...so the person in charge of picking the "happy clown" kinda sorta screwed up....you know where HER mind was at!! So instead of a stiff one, they now have limp ones. Hella funny!!
  18. Thank you SkyMonkey for the useful info. I do want to say that had I read Michelle's post a little more clearly, I would have surmised that she is NOT a frequent flyer! but soon to be! You're input is most valuable certainly because you are an instructor and you've obviously made "lots" of jumps in your position. Although I've never potatoe chipped yet, I'm certain what not to do...panick!!, just relax and check my legs.. but who knows...we will have good days and bad days. Thanks for the advice skymonkey
  19. Yup. I'm still going on Saturday! & not too much personal stuff, just mostly client files and books & stuff. We were able to retrieve most of it. ANd of course, I'd rather be shopping for Gear!! and I'd rather be jumping! See ya Sat. John
  20. eBay would be great for little items , but we're in need of big things immediately and wouldn't be able to wait for the shipping. But thanks for the tip!
  21. The office I work at got hit by an arsonist early Monday morning, a 4alarm fire. We currently have temporary office space, but we're in need of office furniture. If anyone, in the northern CA area, has any suggestions or know of some used office furniture for sale, please contact me. You can still leave a message on our office # which is 925/947-0200. Would appreciate any info. Terri

    OOPS!

Welcome Heath. My name is Terri. I'm from Northern California and Dropzone is Davis. I'm just starting, CATD, about 10-15 jumps from my A license. Nice to meet you. If I'm ever your town...I'll look you up. This is a very cool website...meet great people, and surprisingly, some who live in your own backyard that you never knew about! It's a great network here...and I'm glad you came aboard! Terri
  23. Sounds like your drop zone is quite small. You might consider another one as well, if you can. I also agree with Michelle, not that I'm an expert, and sounds like Michelle has made quite a few jumps. Relaxation is the key...smile & have fun. But while in training...that can be difficult, i know.
  24. This is actually pretty funny. I'm a parent of 2 kids, a 20 yr old & 13 yr old. I'm trying to get my 20 yr old daughter to join me and she won't!!?? My 13 yr old son wants to go, but he's too young. Just the reverse of you!! I'm all for it, as you can tell, and if I were your parent, I'd say...do what makes you happy, but remember, you have to pay your own bills : ) But the other great advice i heard was have your parents call the DZ. They'll be able to give some solid and verified information for them.
  25. I understand now. I haven't had that happen to me yet. I've jumped 5 times so far. Are you with your JM when this happens? Did you have some video your jump? Maybe if you had it taped, you could see any problems. But, the consensus seems to be, and I agree, smile and have a great time...relax (hand signal)
