Forget something? http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030502/ap_on_re_us/climber_amputation_3 Quite a badass. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

There are really only a few sources of wear I can think of - the pull up cord, the pin itself, and the grommets. If your pull up cords are wearing outside the loop, then have a rigger look at your grommets to make sure they are not nicked. If it is wearing inside the loop, then it pretty much has to be either the pin or the pull up cord, as those are the only things that pass through the loop. Check your pin for nicks (or just replace it anyway), and be careful with your pull up cord. Pull the cord out slowly rather than using the cool high-speed packer flourish. A girl at the WTS Halloween Boogie last year dislocated her right shoulder in freefall. Had to pull her reserve at terminal then steer and flare with both toggles in her left hand. She actually did a great job, giving herself a nice landing in the peas. She was in a good deal of pain when she landed, but toughed it out and stayed around to party that night. This incident made me think a lot about whether I would downsize my reserve when / if I downsize my main. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

That is truly one of the funnier ones I have seen. Thanks. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Your knowledge of physics so far ignores air resistance - a force that acts in a direction opposite the velocity vector of the falling object. Remember in school how your textbooks would always say "in a vacuum" or "ignoring the effects of air resistance"? Well, at skydiving speeds, you can no longer ignore it, so you wind up with a more complex motion formual than x=(1/2)*at^2. Now, you can't substitute g for a. In reality, a itself changes with velocity. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

It sucks when the personal bs get so out of control that something like this happens. Sorry to hear about it. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

One thing I am surprised others have not said is to plan ahead - there are people who say they are going to try to land in the peas before the load goes up but have no plan where they want to be at 300, no idea of where they'll be to get there at 600, and no idea which side of the dropzone to be on at 1000. They tend to circle over the peas until they get uncomfortable, then fly out from the center of the safe landing area toward the obstacles and hope for the best. One of the frequent offenders at our dropzone left some very impressive divots in the mud this weekend (foot, foot, knee, knee, hand, faceshield - we can't figure out where the other hand was) after making two low turns. She was OK this time, but if she does not start thinking ahead, her luck may change. BMcD... Edited to Add: Actually, Mikkey basically said this already. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

It would be more convenient if you would put a link to it so people could righ-click and save as then watch it from the hard drive. Would allow slower connections to see the movie, even if the TV surround was lost. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Link was not clicky, so he probably cut and pasted it. I hate that. BMcD ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Yes, he was - at least that is the role he is most famous for. He was also a perpetrator. He is currently a perpetrator. IIRC, he has been a perpetrator a number of times. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

With the old Canon digital cams, the CCD was actually smaller than a 35mm negative, so the effective focal length of a lens was actually longer than the same focal length on a film camera. Therefore, if you get advice that the XXmm lens will have the same FOV as your cam from someone shooting a film camera, you will actually get a smaller FOV from that lens. Does anyone know if this applies specifically to the 10D? I don't want to mislead anyone, but I would be cautious about this. BMcD... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
