Ahhhh, young grasshopper, you have learned much! LOL! Seriously, Clay is pretty dead on the money with this one. Here is how I will embellish it slightly for the more discerning pupil: When I am throwing a carve, or "circle surfing" as we used to call it, I generally continue my diving turn around closer to the ground before stabbing slightly to plane out. From that point, I continue around, shifted in my harness, until such a time that I know I need to stab the opposite toggle to get the main back over my head prior to the stall. Fail to do that and you will end up sliding it out on your side. Done correctly, you can nearly touch your end cell to the ground while your body is completely layed out, pop up and then walk out of it. Believe it or not, a decade ago Jack Jeffries was doing "the 360 circle of death" at Deland and taking it all the way around. Today, there aren't many people that can get it around 180. True 90 degree carves (in ground effect) are one of my favorite things to do and watch. You can still get a pretty long surf after a 90. Chuck My webpage HERE

To the original poster: do a search in this forum and the old safety and training forum and you will find all you need to know about rear riser swooping. You really don't need to be adding rear riser loops. The odd, long spotted float back to the dz might make them seem worth it, but for swooping, you are best off with as few new working parts as possible. It is for that reason that I am ditching my long-time favorite third risers so that I may better "feel" for my rear risers. Chuck My webpage HERE

I do not "stand up" crosswind and downwind landings. For that matter, I rarely "stand up" when I land into the wind. I slide each and every landing under my small chutes to a stop on my feet, one foot in front of the other. Do not ever try and run out a downwinder or crosswinder. Slide to a stop or you will eventually bust your ass and hurt yourself. Practice all your moves at altitude before you ever do anything on final approach. Never toggle hook. Smooth, straight in, double fronts are first. From there, work into 90 degree one-riser carves. Snatching it around will only pendulum you; you want to stay smooth and gradually increase your speed. Start releasing the riser high and then work your way down to such a point that your canopy isn't cruising along the ground at an altitude of five or ten feet, then letting you down hard at the end. If ever you have to "dig" hard to get around the corner, then you have waited too late and need to start your turn higher and release sooner. As soon as you release your riser (or double fronts), you should be ready to initiate your tap to get you around the corner and on plane. Stabbing hard bleeds off tons of speed. More later. Columbia, SC is one of my favorite towns in the world. Nice scenery, lots of colleges/ universities. VA Hospital, FANTASTIC clubs and partying in five points. Right on I-20 and I-26, so it's easy as hell to get anywhere. It takes me about two and a half hours to drive there. There are actually several smallish dropzones near there and while it's a bit of a haul, Chester flies an Otter all the time. It's up towards charlotte. There is a HUGE lake right outside of town also. In all, a great place to live. My webpage HERE

Sully is a strange agent. I met that guy a year and a half ago when my old lady was taking a course in Laurel, MD. I know that he lives there and rigs out of his basement. Ever since I have known and heard of him, he has been in trouble or under suspicion of wrongdoing. I do know for a fact that he assembled a rig for one of his customers and the guy asked him to test jump it. Sully dove out, flailed the entire freefall and rode it in till the Cypres fired. UnFuckingBelievable. My wife sold a rig to a kid up there who regularly jumps at CrossKeys. Andrew SomethingOrOther. Sully was the intermediary. We went to his house and immediately got the feeling that the dude was definitely not all there. Anyway, next time you want to sell something, do it in the classifieds of this website and that at www.enclave.com. I have always had very good luck using these outlets. Hope you get your shit back. Voodoo or Javelin Odyssey or Mirage G3
SkymonkeyONE replied to NathanL100's topic in Gear and Rigging
I jump an Odyssey RS, but would have been perfectly happy with another Vector or new Infinity. The only reason I went back to Sunpath after ten years was the cut-in backpad. Besides that, they are all about the same to me. The fit of the Odyssey is just that much nicer that I HAD to do it. Also, my rig is put together perfectly, as is every other Odyssey on my DZ. Every manufacturer has a bad day and you will see some rigs from all of them in the field that just do not work or look right. Around here, it's Sunpath, Wings, Mirage G3, or Infinity.
