what is the best mount for a cx110
SkymonkeyONE replied to golowjoe's topic in Photography and Video
The Cookie cage is excellent. Look in the ParaGear ad in this month's parachutist. Lot's of places have them in stock, Joe. -
I am incredulous that this thread has grown so large since I resigned my moderator job. Unbelievable....

The place where I am working right now has each and every student leaving the plane under a different color (solid color) canopy. There is no mistaking who is being talked to.

Anyone have news on the World Cup in Russia?
SkymonkeyONE replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
They were jumping today. Three rounds I think. Lots of fuckers pounding in downwind during Speed rounds. Lovely. -
When I was working at Skydive Kauai in Hawaii I had to pack my own 330's. I never stowed the slack and always had good openings. The worst I ever had it, I had two linetwists. Chuck

Wings owners, lend me your ears and opinions.
SkymonkeyONE replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
This is absolutely accurate. My Wings EXT containers are both tiny W-1 size. One has cut-in laterals and the other does not. As the rig is much narrower than my hips, the cut-ins are not needed at all. Also, you really don't want cut-ins on a wingsuit rig (unless it's very large) since the laterals will fit better through the side rigging of your wingsuit without them. Conversely, my Wings student rig is big enough for a 240 main. It has both cut-in and adjustable laterals since the rig is definitely wider than almost anyone wearing it. I have spacer foam on my wingsuit rig and the "regular" padded backpad on my AFF/swoop rig. The spacer foam rig sits a bit farther off of my back, but does not bug me. I just have the padded backpad on my student rig. I have stainless hardware on all three of my Wings containers. Chuck -
Excellent shit

You can travel to Raeford Parachute Center in North Carolina anytime I am in town to recieve first flight instruction. I have demo suits from every manufacturer and am rated by every company that has a program. Chuck

I am going to disagree in regards to the actual purchase of a rig. I have found that hip rings are ALWAYS beneficial for any form of canopy flight, but chest rings offer no benefit whatoever to a person who is going to loosen up their chest strap for canopy flight. Chuck

Canopy Piloting Nationals Amateur vs. Open
SkymonkeyONE replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Unless something has changed in the last couple of years, "Amateur" class is the same as Intermediate in CPC; IE: ten foot gates. The speed course used to be about thirty feet shorter as well. Anyone who has ever competed as a pro in any money meet, whether CPC, Red Bull, or PSN must compete in open. Open is five foot gates. If you are not qualified (by CPC or some other money meet) to fly five footers, then you are relegated to the lower category. -
Unless I am mistaken, that's where Kevin Orkin has been living lately (if he hasn't already moved to ATL). He is a BMI.

Toni (14 years old) welcome to the flock
SkymonkeyONE replied to DarkZero's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I taught Zach Mullins at the WFFC in 2003 when he had around 800 jumps; he was 13 years old. -
World record longest freefall without oxygen.
SkymonkeyONE replied to skydiverkeith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You could be talking about a number of different things: - Highest jump without oxygen was from around 32k by Patrick DeGuiardon with a funny looking bullet-like helmet. -Longest time-in-freefall without Oxygen? Mike Maschef (Grey Mike) at Z-hills has flown 5 minutes and 45 seconds from 22k in a wingsuit at Z-hills. -
All the reason needed to "teach" rather than do "rides".
SkymonkeyONE replied to diablopilot's topic in Tandem Skydiving
It takes me five minutes more to train a person to do all the Cat A/B tasks and I ask every single one of them if that's what they want to do. I also tell them that by doing so they just wasted zero dollars toward their A license since their first "real" AFF will be a Cat B (at least at this dropzone school and when I run private students on my own). If they say "no thanks" and don't want to do anything, they are still going to wear an alti and are going to understand the entire procedure when they sit through our student brief. We have a tremendous return rate nowadays here at Raeford as a result. Chuck -
Articulated Harness / Cut in laterals not recommended for WS?
SkymonkeyONE replied to p3h's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I have owned four different "wingsuit" rigs since I started. I can tell you with absolute confidence that if you are jumping a tiny rig like mine are, then you do not want cut-in laterals. They only bind up at the back zip/connection-side of your suit. They make rigging slightly more difficult in old "lace up" suits and they tear at your zips on later suits. Again: if you jump a tiny rig, then don't bother with cut-ins. If you jump a larger rig, then it won't matter. FWIW: I jump a Wings W1-1 EXT with wingsuit mods (no cut-ins) as my primary wingsuit rig. -
Billy beat me to it. Definitely fireflytx. I have seen them

Texas Swoopers #3 CANCELED!
SkymonkeyONE replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
When I was running the Carolinas league and we had a cancellation (for whatever reason) I just ran the next one as a double meet for points sake. -
One must also add that standard sized noodles will not stand straight up for long in the sun and are generally slipped over the top of 1" PVC pipe to add a degree of rigidity.

If you are a jumper flying in the XP tunnel...
SkymonkeyONE replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Wind Tunnels
...And you do not come by the dropzone to at least say "hello" to your friends when you are in town, then you are a complete tool. Chuck Blue -
I don't recall reading what you put in there as an ignition, Nick, but if it's a Crane Hi-4 race like mine you just have to rotate the plate until the red light comes back on (at TDC) for it to be in time. Easy Schmeezy.

that was simply fucking excellent. Nice.

The fact that anyone, and I mean ANYONE would consider me a "scaremonger" is so funny I almost spit on the screen. Jump more, see more, know more. Chuck

How many people? Who knows? Who cares? My guess is the people who have problems with their deployments in big suits care. I have personally witnessed plenty of people missing their handles repeatedly at pull time and resorting to their reserve (at Z-hills). I have also witnessed people doiing front flips at pull time because they bent forward reaching for their handles at pull time instead of arching. Raise your hand, Darren Kellet, if you are one of the BASE guys who nearly went in because you missed your pull the first time at 300 feet.
