Anybody ever order 1st, 2nd, 3rd place medals for canopy competitions or other skydiving related competitions? There are lots of companies out there for ordering medals, i'm just looking for a reference. It would be great if I could find a skydiving themed medal. Thanks for your help! Steve, I jump out at Byron (www.bayareaskydiving) and it's probably the closest to you. Winds shouldn't be an issue this time of year, but that depends on what you are used to. There is nothing but land out there anyway. If you land on an obstacle it's because you tried to hard Anyway, there are lots of good people out there, good vibe and some RW organizers. That being said you really can't go wrong with any of the NorCal DZ's. If you are looking for turbine fun try Skydance in Davis, CA, parachute center in Lodi...to name a few DZ's i'm familiar with. Have fun and be safe. Blue Skies Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Lodi During Winter Months
jacketsdb23 replied to markovwgti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
just go and ask the current videographers to show you the ropes. They love having new cameramen Edited to add: In order to do camera work there I believe you need to have your own editing equipment. Just a heads up. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
Thats at terminal velocity. Most malfunctions happen with some sort of fabric out which allows additional time. Just something to keep in mind. My hard deck is 1800ft. I've had a spinning malfunction from 3500' down to 1800' and I cut-away at my pre-determined alt. It worked for me. Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
jacketsdb23 replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I understand you had an experience that affects your decision on this...but when I had my voodoo I shot tandem videos all the time with my "standard" RSL connected. I had this debate with myself and others and made my decision. I never wore the video helmet under any other circumstances (only Tandem video's). Since then my new to me rig is not equipped with an RSL. So I don't have to make the choice. ( I choose not to get it equipped). anyway...my 2 cents. Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
jacketsdb23 replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hey all you guys running out to get knives...thats great and all, i'm not knocking it...but I hope you spend equal (if not more ) time identifying snag hazards in your local aircraft, on your rig (is your RSL exposed at all across the back/top of the rig) and reviewing your emergency procedures. Stay safe! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
100 Skydivers in San Francisco (T Mobile Event)
jacketsdb23 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So Bill - who landed on the roof of that house? I assume the jumper was OK. Overall, looks like you guys pulled off one hell of an event. Congrats! I imagine flying over the city like that was extremely fun and challenging. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
Ole, i posted the link in General Discussions...I just found out about this while reading SF Gate. Sure wish I was in SF this afternoon. Anyone know who is organizing this event? Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Tommy...just thought I'd stop by to let you know that I finally have my very own boobie coozie. You were the first person I met that actually had one and it was awesome. The donation went to Jump for the Cause. Blue Skies buddy. Sure do miss ya. Marcel Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Ken, it was always nice seeing you in Byron. You always had a smile and had one of those special personalities that always seemed to put those around you in a better mood. We've had lots of fun in LP too. "Car W" always lots of fun. I remember the crazy drive down from the tower after drinking the purple stuff. Toasting a beer to you right now. Party on Ken. Blue Skies. I'll miss you. Marcel Edited to add photo. The photo is from LP in 2006. Sucks that this photo has been posted in this same forum before. Blue skies my friends. Take care of each other out there. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Options for improving plane out altitude
jacketsdb23 replied to DocPop's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Go up to 13K and do a hop and pop. Play around with different style turns...quick turns, long turns, and make sure you are keeping an eye on your altimeter so you know what type of altitude you are losing during each turn. There is not a one stop shop for initiation altitude (even if you are really really good, you won't always hit the same initiation point all the time). When I say quick turns i'm talking in terms of time not degree of your turn. I can do a 270 in 4 - 5 seconds or snap turn much quicker. Same with your 90's. You can do a very slow metered 90 turn or a quick snap 90. Each style burns up different amounts of altitude. I recommend reading Parachute and its Pilot by Brian Germain. Also talk with instructors at your DZ. Once you've done that about 10 times bring the turn down low and you should have a better idea of what turns you can do and from which altitude to start from. Cheers! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
Perris minor incident May 9 - pattern error
jacketsdb23 replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
Victor...seriously talk with an instructor at the Ranch. I don't know what your landing rules are there...but if a landing direction is stated...you need to follow it. simple. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -

Brother scored a job near Mojave, CA ...where to live?
jacketsdb23 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in The Bonfire
So after graduating in December of '08, my brother finally scored a job working near edwards airforce base in Southern Cali. Looking at the map looks like his options will be kind of limited. I see Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita and some smaller cities for potential living areas. Anyone live close by that can offer suggestions? He is putting his motorcycle in the back of his truck with a suitcase and driving west (from florida). I'm thinking about going down in two weeks when he drives out to help him look for a place to stay, but I don't know a damn thing about that area. 0:1:0 I don't know if a hop n' pop from a decending cessna at 2700ft counts...but damn...it felt good after sitting around all day. staff: the students have all opted for a better day pilot: cool, lets go home Staff: No AWOS says we can get 2500ft pilot: your joking? staff: Nope, lets go. Opinions regarding Icarus Safire2 canopies
jacketsdb23 replied to regulator's topic in Gear and Rigging
PD pilot vs. Icarus pilot argument...I love these. I tend to think both the safire and crossfire have more flare power than the sabre/katana equivalents. I also have more jumps on the Icarus canopies. Can't go wrong either way..jump what fits your flying style. (......but the safire and crossfire both open better....) Raeford swoop pond is up and running

Ryan - I expect to see photos of a bright blue XF2 crossing that pond soon! Stay safe and dry! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
I had a brand new container, brand new main, and a 15 year old Reserve (1992 PD 160R) when I first bought new equipment. Two years later I had my first reserve ride on that $600 reserve, and guess what....It worked just fine!!! And I'm still jumping that reserve at 18 years old. It can be done. Have a rigger inspect it! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Which weather website for Skydiving?
jacketsdb23 replied to aceofd1amonds's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I usually go to the DZ and figure it out there. Most of the time its like...holy shit its too fucking windy to be doing anything. After about 2 hours - the wind usually gets stronger and I change my position thinking its not too bad. I'm not jaded. And its only April.... I usually enjoy Summerfest quite a bit. Sierra has some really good brew. But since I'll be in LP for the last weekend (starting on Thursday) I think it would be a sin to drink Summerfest. I'll stick to the tried and true Skydiver Blonde and Tri Motor Ale while I'm out there! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
