Hey NorCal Canopy Pilots - Listen Up I know there are a few canopy pilots out there looking for some fun competition and some warm up's prior to Nationals being held on September 1-4. Skydive Sacramento is hosting its third meet of the NCCPA Season, July 10th. Lets get a kick ass competition going and enjoy some nice BBQ and Beer after sunset next weekend. Skydive Sacramento has been providing great support for these events with video of every entry, spotters, judges, and discounted jumps. The events would be even better with more pilots to keep the competition going. If you are at all interested please talk with Peter Galli or myself. Florida and Texas have some great leagues going right now and it would be great to get California on the map too. Lets re-build the NorCal Canopy Piloting league. You don't have to be an experienced competitive pilot to enjoy the event. I had never competed until this year myself. Come with a good attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to demonstrate good decision making and safe high performance landings. Start time is 9am with Competitor Briefing and then jumps. Please be on time. If you haven’t jumped this year at Skydive Sacramento, please arrive with enough time to fill out paperwork, waiver and gear check. It’s been a good season so far and we want to finish the last meet strong. Jumps, BBQ, BEER and video. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email. If you know you're going to participate please let us know. Hope to see you out on July 10th! USPA CP Nationals - getting to spaceland from IAH
jacketsdb23 replied to jacketsdb23's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll be flying into Houston on 8/28 and coming back 9/5. I have a rental car reserved at $14.95/day ~$210 total. Wanted to see if anyone coming in around same time wanted to be added as second driver and we can split the car/costs. My flight out is Sunday 9/5 afternoon around 3pm. Its about an hour drive to Spaceland. I plan to camp but might spend a few nights at the Holiday Inn that is about 15 miles away. Let me know if you're interested. Jason we'll see. Having fun out there? No more photos of swooping the green grass unless you plan to come back and make our landing area look like that. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

What deployment method do you have on your primary sport rig?
jacketsdb23 replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ok, I'll bite. Who are they? (out of curiosity). Its always interesting to learn about world class skydivers. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
Last year there was swoop week - CPC, USPA, and Pro Swoop Tour was canceled because of weather. Is there going to be a CPC Championship this year? Just curious as to what other large swoop competitions are out there? Thinking about traveling to the Florida or Texas swoop meets next year. I'm going to try to make the last one in Texas in August as a prep for USPA Nationals this year. We're trying to get something going here in California but I think its going to take some time. First Cut Away Question
jacketsdb23 replied to DoubleDogDareMe's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Whatever you do, DO NOT go buy a bear. No matter how boring a Saturday afternoon weather hold can get, the entertainment presented by having a bear in the hanger is not worth the potential destruction it can cause. Samurai for a 100 jump person
jacketsdb23 replied to 4chewnate's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
that was my first canopy at 60-something jumps.. As it is for many people now days. I'm just saying as the sport progresses canopies get faster, technology may be better, we may be better pilots and more educated...but the ground still stays just as hard and deadly. Samurai for a 100 jump person
jacketsdb23 replied to 4chewnate's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Of course it's not OK. But - you can read up on about 1000 threads on here about this same topic, different HP canopy. Bottom line, he should not be under an elliptical canopy at 100 jumps...unless as someone already said they did their student jumps on a stiletto (BTW that thread is AWESOME) Whats worse than an instructor selling him that canopy is the fact that this person now thinks that its OK to fly it and will do so with the type of confidence (hey an Instructor gave this to me!!!!) that has the potential to kill him. I hope it doesn't. I'm not in the crowd that says you can't fly HP canopy until X jumps or Xbrace until X jumps. I believe it truly depends on your flying skills and your dedication to canopy flight. I've seen/heard of many more experienced (D licensed, 1000+ jumps) people break/kill themselves under HP canopies than 100 jump newbies. However - its probably because most new skydivers get good advice and take the correct path to canopy piloting. Be safe and have fun. Physics doesn't change. It wasn't too long ago a sabre 1 was radical and a 150 was a death wish. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. -
I grounded a guy in Byron three weekends ago. If I had the authority to do so is another question. He was a visiting jumper from another country and spoke very little English. I saw his first landing and decided I would check his paper work first hand. Waiver stated 400 jumps so I asked for a logbook and received the information. Everything looked good. Spoke to another jumper who is staff and could speak the language and asked him to talk with the visiting jumper about his landing. Second jump he pounded in under a Cobalt 150. I'm completely baffled as to how he didn't break something. He stood up and I asked if he was OK? He said yes. I then told him he was done jumping for the day. He didn't really understand that so I had it translated. He got the idea pretty quickly. Its funny how you can watch someone fly and red flags immediately go off for some people. The grounding was effective until there was better training and a larger parachute. He didn't jump the rest of the day. Not sure if he has been back since. This brings up a very good question of who really has authority to ground someone. Ultimately I suppose the DZO or Manager has the final say, with input from staff and S&TA. It all started with a pilot chute hesitation
jacketsdb23 replied to ecnuob's topic in Safety and Training
To be fair I think there are many people who do not look at their altimeter at deployment. It is common for me to look at the altimeter during break off altitude, track for space, and then pull without looking at my altimeter. I'm usually too busy looking around the sky to make sure I'm clear. Using audibles in my opinion are no more dangerous then relying on our battery operated Neptunes. damn, you guys have a great thing going on over there on the East coast. Saw the pictures from Raeford. Wish it was just a touch closer. Hopefully one day it'll be like that over here on the West Coast. I know Peter is trying to build something up in Lincoln. We had a good meet last weekend. Good luck to everyone! really long swoop under a bridge!
jacketsdb23 replied to flyingZippy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
why all the movement during the "swoop"? seems like the dude is rocking out. If I did that under my velocity while swooping i'd be in the dirt quick like. Maybe the difference between rigid and non-rigid wing? It looks bad ass so the guy appears to know what he is doing. I just can't relate. The XF2 opening is long. I've jumped a Katana and if you think the opening on a katana is long...wait until you jump the XF2. However...your squirrely (katana) will turn into pleasant. XF2 is the nicest (in my opinion) overall canopy i've ever jumped. I've owned a 139, 119, and have about 20 jumps on a 109. But don't kid yourself on it...it is not a "toggle whip" type canopy. It will dive and hurt you if you aren't on top of it. I'm sure you will enjoy your 139. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

Thank you. Its official. She is all better. No sock is safe and she is eating her normal food mixed in with "soft" foods. Looks like a complete comeback. Mommy is watching her now while I go jump. This has been an interesting thread. A lot of stuff I never even thought of. Thank you everyone for their comments. I've sent all of the vet bills/procedures to the breeder on Wednesday morning. It provides the proof of the parvo diagnosis. I gave the breeder an update (and pictures) of the dogs health and asked what she was willing to do to offset the costs. I have not heard back yet. Surprise. I will be attempting communication over the phone today. Thus far she has not answered the phone or responded to voice mails. I have been nice so far. That will be changing rapidly. So we finish meds today. Dog appears to have made a full recovery. I'm told "big" breeds do better and the fact that she was 6 months old helped. So after thousands of dollars...our puppy is just fine. She is beautiful. Marcel Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
