I am not blaming any one... take it easy. I wasn't judging Justin, and I wasn't excusing what he is being accused of doing either. The courts and the general skydiving community will do enough of that without me weighing in. I have purchased equipment from sposored skydivers, it is allways equipment that experince depreciation as it is used, and they upgrade for new. That makes sense to me, they have a canopy for 300 jumps and they can get a newone. They now have an extra canopy and they sell it cheap because they either got it for free, or at a great discount. The same doesn't make sense for an AAD. Why would a sponsored skydiver have a bunch of AAD's for sale at a discount unless he or she was reducing the number of rigs they had, or was switching to a new brand. I would at least ask the question, why are you selling it, and why are you selling it so cheap? When I buy gear I ask a lot of questions. When I buy anything that isn't being sold by an established retailer I ask a lot of questions. If you don't think that is a smart idea I think you should look up some of the laws around buying stolen property! Judging from how you worded your post you are already 100% set on jumping a GoPro and nothing we can post will change that, but here we go anyway. At 60 jumps you are still getting out of your own way, and all of us were the same way at 60 jumps. You are just building the situational awareness and flying skills needed to have a clue of what is going on around you. A camera is an added mental distraction that should be added after your flying is automatic, and you situational awareness is established. None of those things can be said about someone with 60 jumps. You can't set a camera and forget it, it just doesn't work that way. Go read the fatality report about the guy with 70 jumps who went in down in South America when something happened under canopy and he likely experinced overload. Yes, as long as you take precautions to avoid endangering anything or anyone on the ground. FAR's don't say you can't drop stuff from planes PERIOD, they basically say you can't drop stuff in a manner that would endanger people and property on terafirma. What skydiver buys an AAD that is priced seriously under market value and doesn't question it. Am I wrong to think that it is common knowledge that you can value these units down to the dollar. If I could get a Cypres several hundred dollars under FMV I would want to know what is wrong with it, or who it was stolen from. I am of the belief that I will subsidize the current level of social security benefits and medicare benefits for our current seniors, at an increasingly greater cost. When I got to get medicare and social security it will be severly limited, and I will not get the same benefits that I helped subsidize decades earlier. I would like to see means testing for social security and medicare implemented TODAY. The baby boomers voted in politicians that trashed social security, and failed to implemement cost savings into medicare. Let them share in the pain that they forced us to inherit. I make under 100K. I don't qualify for any government programs that give me free Obama money. My girlfriends kids go to a public school, but our school is mostly funded with local property tax revenue. It is a great school system, good class sizes, and reasonable spending from the school board. My effective state income tax rate has shot up drastically this year due to the states out of control budget, which was plugged mostly through tax increases. I am not religious, and I pretty liberal on social issues. Why exactly do you think the democrats would be attractive to me just because I am not rich? What do they have to offer me that the republicans do not? Personally I think they both suck, but I find it very amusing that you think things are so one dimensional. Exactly, with zero equity in the house you couldn't absorb any loss of value. If you had the 20% or more down you likely would still be above water. Or you slightly under water and more likely to be able to pay the difference at closing. Yes you would have to sell the house at a loss, but you could sell it, and make yourself mobile if that was the right choice after crunching the numbers.
