Skydive Sebastian - Next Weekend Sat Dec 8th (2012)
DougH replied to DougH's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Thanks for the scoop. That is too bad,. I wonder if they will build the beach back up eventually. The hotel/inn there must not be happy about missing their beach. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Found about 10 Jump In pages on FB I called manifest, their 1800 #, and they said no bunk house. I am hoping for 6 jumps on Saturday, and I will make my 1k! Anyone interested in a Saturday sunset beach jump. That would make a memorable thousand jump. Otherwise I might save 1k for a naked CT snow jump lol. Orlando next week, Dec 3rd to the 9th (2012). Meet for beers or suggestions?
DougH replied to DougH's topic in The Bonfire
Thanks for the suggestions folks! Company is buying dinner so we are splurging a little. Went to Emerils in City Walk on Monday. Appetizers were great but my steak was lack luster, especially when considering the price. Went to Seasons 52 in Dr. Phillips last night. Excellent, I am amazed it is a chain restaurant by Darden (think Red Lobsta). Food is pretty healthy (less than 500 calories) but amazing. Really recommended that place, wish there was one by me in CT. Going to the Palm tonight. Going to get beef drunk, I got scotch drunk last night. There goes my chance to meet ya! This weather will be great for camping though! I went to that tunnel while I was here on business and had only one AFF jump under my belt. At the time it was awesome. The DVD I brought back of my 30 minute session prompted the scariest jump in my AFF progression (it would have been level 2 in normal circumstances). Something about being practically being signed off AFF, and only needing one instructor. Don't know if I have the purse capacity for a trip this time, with xmas around the corner. We also have a nicer recirculating tunnel only an hour drive from me into NH. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

I am in Florida next week for some work training. I have a night or two that I am not free because I need to do some networking meals, but otherwise I am on my own after working hours until my flight back on Sunday afternoon. I posted another thread about maybe heading the Sebastian for that Saturday. I think the locals are laying low hoping I might go the Zhills instead. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4408013;page=unread#unread I am going to be at the Hard-Rock for most of the week. I think that is in the Citywalk tourist trap area. Any suggestions for some restaurants or bars to hit up? Even better, would any one like to meet up for a few beers or dinner. I am just as boring in person as I am online, but not nearly as much of an asshole. I promise to take my meds! First rounds are on me. Bueller? Either no Seb. locals came across this, or everyone thinks I am as much of an asshole in person, as I come across online. "Shshhhhhhhh, be quiet and maybe he will think no one is home" "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Don't know if I will catch any Seb. locals with this post but here it goes! Is anything going on next weekend? I checked the website but I didn't see anything posted on the calendar. I am in Orlando for business and I am free from Friday until my flight back on Sunday the 9th. I have a hotel in Orlando Friday night, but no accommodations yet for Saturday. I am trying to plan whether I should bring my rig and plan on heading to Seb on Saturday, and or maybe Friday if I can adjust my reservations. What about crashing at the DZ? Is the dropzone friendly to jumpers crashing in the hanger? Does any one want to volunteer a couch, I just finished my serial killer rehab program so I am once again an awesome house guest. I like them on homemade pizza. I soak the filet's in milk to loose the excess salt, and take an edge of the fishy-ness. The pizzeria anchovies are way to freaking salty, and I always wonder how long they have been sitting open in the walk in. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

X2 Unless you are jumping at a DZ operating a single 182 you can't "clear your airspace", and even with only three other variables in the air that is dubious. You clear your airspace by not swooping in traffic, do a low pass or a full altitude clear and pull so you have your own airpsace, period. Hate apple products, overpriced and over-hyped! I am pretty computer savy, used to build PCs, even got my A+ certification back in the day. But now I work at a large multi-national that slings out crappy laptops, and I just need to sit there and say thank you sir, please may I have another. Thanks for the responses everyone. I have been playing around on tiger direct looking at components. DSE glad to hear that it can be more of a barebones solution. I am going to try to aim for the middle of the road I think. I am starting to get some questions together as I do some surfing: Processor -AMD or Intel? -How many cores? (The dell was a quad core i7, looks like big jump in price to 6 cores for intel) -Form factor, 22nm versus ???nm, does this matter? Case power supply & motherboard -Any performance factor here? Hard drives -It looks like solid state for the operating system and software... what about drives for footage, storage, etc? Memory -Fastest and most possible? -Memory channels? Dual or Quad? Video card I don't think there is a benefit to a gaming card for editing, but maybe I will start playing computer games again. Hoping to get some advice on building or buying a desktop for video editing and general use, PLEASE. I have a work laptop so I thought that I would get more computing power per dollar if I went with a desktop. Only real requirements are a Windows system because I don't do the apple thing. I am going to be editing video from my CX760 that is going to be shot in standard HD, and also some Blueray quality HD. A bonus would be a good powerful system that is ready built from a vendor that offers a no interest for 12 or 18 months deal. I almost pulled a trigger on a Dell XPS 8500 yesterday but it would have been to much of an impulse buy, and the reviews online said it was maxed out on memory slots etc. I would like the ability to put more memory in without paying the Dell upgrade prices! So what should be looking for? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Weather you jump in the cold whether is up to you. Wear layers, you aren't exposed to the cold that long, but you will sweat you butt off once you are back packing in the warmth. I don't know why you would want to jump with a sweat shirt when you could wear a heavier weight base layer, warmer and way less crap under your jumpsuit. Gloves are good, but they shouldn't be bulky, and they should grip your handles well. Practice how all of your handles feel with the gloves, don't forget the little tab on your RSL lanyard. I would rather have thinner gloves that leave my hands a little cold in the tail end of the season, than toasty hands in gloves that make it hard for me to hookup my students, feel all of my handles. Funny skydiving story: short video by Brian Germain

Students don't need to aim the camera. The assume a normal free fall position. The assume a normal tandem student exit with a safety position that keeps their hands and elbows in against their chest. They have a wide angle GoPro on their wrist, all the have to do is arch and smile. If anything it reminds them not to sweep their hands back behind them like many students do despite being trained otherwise. There are bigger fish to fry, for example tandem mills where students never get on a creeper, and whose training amounts to meeting their instructor at the running plane and being told arch arch arch banana banana. That is really cool!

I do that with mine. My tony suits don't tend to run much. I do have an old 1980's era suit that still leaves a color catcher red! Gentle cycle, cold, spin, hang dry. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?
DougH replied to Namowal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Says the guy with the 80 jumps! I won't call him a twat, and I am sure Travis is a cool guy, but he is no Bill Cole nor does he measure up to any of the old timers that I have gotten to know in my short time in the sport. What does my jump numbers have to do with it? Im just saying, Travis (along with a handful of other noteables) literally revolutionized the sport of freestyle motocross the same way many names mentioned on this thread have revolutionized skydiving or BASE. I have to plead my ignorance with a lot of the names mentioned here, I got some homework to do, but to imply Travis' achievements in his field(s) dont mean as much to his sport as BC's do in his sport is just unfair. Your jump numbers have nothing to do with it. That whooshing you hear is the point of your comment going right on over Doug's punkin haid. . . . . I concur, BTW; Travis is a big-time extreme sportsman who briefly touched parachuting among his many other sporting exploits. Punkin haid, I like that. Nothing went wooshing by my "Punkin haid". I think that was the sound of your keyboard crying uncle from being so overworked. Probably more of whimper than a woosh! I wasn't the one who slighted the great Travis Pastrana, nor did I discount any of his NON skydiving exploits. I think they are awesome. That being said this was a thread about names of jumpers we should have heard of because of their skydiving exploits and contributions. And if you are going to compare apples to apples Travis contribution to the sport, although very heavily youtubed and promoted, doesn't compare to any of the other names I see on this list. Demo or practice demo - Texas speedway
DougH replied to jlmiracle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ughhhh. I don't think he could have had a more I don't give a shit look on his face if he rehearsed it and tried again. Could have been someones head he smashed instead, maybe he would have geeked the camera for that scenario too! Seriously, wtf. East Coast trouble makers - Skydive Cape Cod

They did crash on the first load of their opening season, and again recently into a lake. That isn't helping their track record in the area. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Skydiving correlated with criminality?
DougH replied to kallend's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Seems like Jay is really sticking our necks out, for us, on that one, but for what? Who cares if some chief of police in Bumfuck Alaska wrote some poorly worded sentence about risk taking that happened to contain a reference to skydiving. The chief of police may be a dumb ass, but what does he owe to skydiving. And more importantly, what could his comment possibly have done to skydiving??!! I would have just ignored it, Jay "doth protest too much, methinks." "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Don't you have some better things to do? Maybe some Australian dropzones to email and bother? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

You are more optimistic than I am. It was only recently that they were trying to execute a young mentally retarded christian girl who was framed for desecrating a Koran. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I have stuffed a 188 zp pilot in my I5 that has a Smart 175 for a temporary period of time so I could lend the rig to some one that wasn't ready to jump a 170. I wouldn't do it for an extended period of time, it is a real tight fit and you will end up stretching out the stiffeners and possibly pulling grommets on the flaps.
